Yeah. Over the past year or two Gamespot has gone out of their way to be provocative on reviews and other opinion pieces to get extra hits. I go back to RE6 getting that 4.5 score as a prime example. But even in the other direction, look at Link Between Worlds getting their Game of the Year award. I'm playing that right now, and loving every minute of it, but it is no GotY when you compare it to a lot of the other titles that came out last year. The site needs to be ignored on every level. It offers up absolutely nothing and is just a waste of programming and bandwidth at this point.

Its amazing when I think back in the day, around 2000 era, Gamespot was my #1 place to go for reviews and community. They took over for the slumping EGM for me (IGN always had better previews and news though). Now, as you said its totally worthless. So weird how things can just fall apart like that.

Just a random note, but after watching my son and some of his friends play some games over the past few days I really have to question Nintendo on why they're still ignoring the whole "creation" genre or whatever you'd like to call it. Minecraft, LBP, Disney Infinity. This is what I'm seeing them all play. They'll just build levels, worlds, or whatever and kill hours doing it. Not a coincidence that I see a lot of merchendise and clothing for that stuff as well (maybe not for LBP though if it were multi-platform you can bet your ass there would be). For a company that's philosophy is, "video games are toys" Nintendo is really missing the boat on a genre that's really routed in that belief.

I think honestly that Nintnedo is too proud to let people make their own shit. THEY want to create the levels you play. Can't really blame them when people have hailed them as masters of level design since the NES era.

Oh yeah I've also been playing World of Tanks on the 360. It's fun to play around on for awhile since it's free to play but it's not really a game I'd spend any money on or be playing much of down the road.

Hey Leo (and anyone else who may have played it) how is Izuma or whatever it's called? I've been seeing that on the top of the Japanese charts everytime Level 5 makes a new installment. I have much curiosity.

I get that, and so I get why they wouldn't go the LBP route. But a sandbox creation game along the lines of Infinity or Minecraft still seems like a different thing all together. Maybe it's just too Western of a concept.

Anyway, my played games for the week!

  • The Last Of Us Left Behind           PS3

The Last of Us: Left Behind Boxart

Played it, beat it in a few hours. Its great content, but way overpriced. It was nice to dive back into that world and delve deeper into Ellie. Into Ellie's story, I mean.

  • Outlast             PS4

Outlast Boxart

What a nice surprise this was. Another great horror game which kind of feels like a mix of Zombi U and Condemned, and I got it for free. Awesome atmosphere, nice story. I do wish there was SOME limited combat though....at least let me swing a fucking pipe like Silent Hill or something.

  • Super Mario 3D World         Wii U

Super Mario 3D World Boxart

Played th hell out of this and finished it this week. Probably my favorite Super Mario game since the Snes days, and I thought it was going to be a half assed NSMB style cash in. Easily one of the Top 5 games of 2013, if not the best. Brings back that old Super Mario vibe of great levels and jumping through pipes without all the family friendly overtones.

  • Fable Anniversary           Xbox 360

Fable Anniversary Boxart

Started this and can't stop playing. Always loved this game...to me it always felt like a darker Zelda game, though without the dungeons obviously. Its still a great game 10 years later. This is basically the same kind of package as the Halo Anniversary from a few years back. The graphics aren't incredible, but definitely improved enough to really add to the atmosphere.

  • Luigi's Mansion 2

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon Boxart

Played another short burst of Dark Moon. Its definitely a great game...the worst I can say about it is the controls feel strange. This is a result of playing it on the 3DS though. I do wish it was a Wii U game, but its a good time nontheless.

  • Killzone Shadow Fall

Killzone: Shadow Fall Boxart

Think I'm like halfway done with this. Its a fun game even though it won't win any FPS awards. Haven't tried multi-player.  The production values are really nice, and it feels more cinematic than any older KZ. The controls are well done. Don't really like the game's reliance on the robot drone that magically appears to help you out though.

Inazuma Eleven

______________________________________________________

It's typical Level 5. It's super colorful, super enthusiastic, light-hearted and FUN! It's an RPG about a rag-tag soccer club that is in danger of being shut down by the school. They are inexplicably scheduled to play the best soccer team in the region and told either they win or they lose their club. Without saying too much, the better team concedes and the guys are allowed to stay together. This causes the school to have a sudden surge in interest in the Team and Soccer in general, and that's where the real game begins.

You run around high school grounds, recruiting over 1000 potential players for your team. You find treasure chests with Mineral Water, Sneakers, food and other stuff as you explore. You equip your team with better gear. You train and gain experience and access to special moves. Random encounters happen as you walk around. These are in the form of quick challenges like "Be the first to score a Goal" or "Steal the ball from the enemy team."

The actual matches are where I am having the most trouble right now. You control your players with the stylus, tapping other members to pass, drawing lines to intercept the opposing players, making quick choices when confronted with a situation like "Slide Tackle" or "Tackle" when you are close to an enemy player. The circle pad controls your view of the field. Don't get me wrong, this all works actually very well; I am just not too skilled at the concept of Soccer in general.

Long story, short. It's the kind of Japanese game I never thought I would see here, but I am glad they brought it over. If you are looking for something different, fun and that will last a while, it's DEFINITELY worth the $14 or so bucks I paid for it!

One word of warning: This is actually a ported DS game! It has some 3D elements on the top screen, but it IS a port of an older game! Still, there's nothing else like it in the US!

______________________________________________________

Just to add: The Special Moves you earn are not of the real "Soccer" type. We are talking Street Fighter like Hurricane Kicks, Super-Sized "God Hands" for tending goal, etc. The enemy teams also tend to have their "things" too. I think I have heard about Occult Teams and Aliens, so, it's not just a Soccer "Sim" game!

Those MGS comparison shots don't look much different to me.  I'm sure it's a heck of a lot of difference while moving though.
