And holy shit, sorry for sounding like a grouch in the last few posts. I love video games, spent about 4 hours playing them today, 2 hours listening to podcasts and another two reading about them.
VIDEO GAMES!
Imagine what you'd post if you hated them...
Yeah it would have been better if no good games released at all.
I tried the demos for Lego Batman 1 and 2 and the LOTR one and fucking hated them, awful simplistic gameplay. That said this game is not just the same Lego game reskinned like these licenced titles. This has no licence attached, it's an open world title that's had a lengthy 3 years plus of development from the sister studio TT Fusion rather than Travellers Tales and it's got a lot of great to good reviews. I think it should be greeted with cautious optimism, not blind cynicism.
It's a different structure, open world and features heavy gamepad integration. I'm sure there are a lot of similarities, collecting all that shit for a start but it's not the same as the trashy licenced stuff.
But it seems it has tropes from the older Lego games, here is how Joystiq describe it:
"Much like the toy these days, Lego City Undercover is both familiar and unfamiliar. Or, more to the point, it's two games masquerading as one, the first new and the second old.
The introduction of a tremendous open world, a plastic parody of a city full of whimsy to discover, and more importantly to collect, is what should define Lego's Wii U debut. This miniature metropolis sits alongside an almost wholly separate campaign, its tight, linear missions shuffling to the break-it-rebuild-it rhythm which has long been the Lego beat.
The first game, the exploratory open world collect-a-thon, is not just fresh, it's on the verge of greatness. It's unfortunate, then, that to fully enjoy it you must wade through the second game, the campaign, and all its relatively drab, through-the-motions familiarity."
This is interesting...I didn't realise Nvidia was kicking AMD's ass so hard profit-wise:
"In the end, you only have so many engineers and so much capability, and if you're going to go off and do chips for Sony or Microsoft, then that's probably a chip that you're not doing for some other portion of your business. And at least in the case of Sony and Nvidia, in terms of PS4, AMD has the business and Nvidia doesn't. We'll see how that plays out from a business perspective I guess. It's clearly not a technology thing."
AMD will be hoping that its PS4 business pays off, having recently fallen on hard times. Earlier this week it sold its Austin-based HQ for $164 million to raise cash, while a leading analyst called it "un-investable" following an operating loss of $131 million in its quarterly earnings report.
In Nvidia's latest earnings call, the company posted a profit of $174 million.
Feb. 2013 NPD - software, accessories, analysis
- 25 percent drop in industry sales
- total coming in at $810 million
- software sales (including PC) dropped 27 percent to $369.9 million
- hardware plummeted 36 percent to $244.2 million
- accessories fell back three percent to $213.9 million
- 455,000 units of Nintendo hardware was sold
- this pushed the 3DS past 8 million units to date
- Wii U sold 64,000 units minimum
"Though there was the same number of February launches in the top ten ranking as last February, collectively, February launches performed worse than last year with unit sales down 30 percent.
When combining the dollar value of Skylanders software as well as accessories, this property has generated over $600 million in the US since launching in October 2011, and sold $35 million in February alone. It will be interesting to watch how this dynamic of physical goods delivering digital content evolves with the launch of Disney Infinity later this year.
Looking at hardware sales on an average per week basis, all platforms showed an increase from January into February. Specifically, new platforms like the Wii U and PS Vita demonstrated some momentum from the typical January hardware lull with increases of over 40 percent and 30 percent, respectively." - NPD industry analyst Liam Callahan
Go, now, read.
Can't say i'm interested in Lego blah blah 7000, don't interest me. I was looking at a Wii U zombiU edition box the other day and was like.... the only game I want to play on this system is zombiu lol. Hopefully by the time the holidays hit there are enough games to justify a purchase.
I am loving my 3DS though.
Probably gonna get Luigis Mansion 2, I liked the first one a lot.
It takes 1000 people to make the same game 10 times in a row?
AC IV is made by 7 studios, nearly 1,000 people. Is this the new AAA?
1000 people on one game? WTF? No wonder this industry is going broke.
This is why Blu Ray discs are needed these days. Credits take up more space than Ocarina Of Time.
Why does every controller use Dreamcast face buttons?
Cause dreamcast was the most influencial ahead of its time console ever.
GG I never said the Lego game wasn't welcomed, I said its embarrassing that is all the wii u has to show for since launch.
Yeah, very logical eh? Lets get 1000 people to make game that no one asked for rather than make 3-4 smaller, quality titles.
Yep, exactly. I bought a PSP for a "promised" Fumito Ueda game, and a PS3 for the so called "Last Guardian". You live you learn.

If you guys are looking for lots of easy XP in TR, go back to Coastal Forest where you found the first bow. It's filled to the brim with animals to hunt. I must have killed 10 deer in 10 minutes, and a bunch of rabbits and birds too. I went back there to find the free DLC Tomb that I got from Gamestop.
