Just this whole notion of a super platform to play games is not true, if it was then you can simply buy it and be happy.  Of my top ten games this gen 7 are console exclusives so for me PC would be a horrible choice of platform. I know everyone is different, if you love strategy, MMOs and simulation etc PC is by far the way to go. I can play basically all the big PC action/adventure/RPGs on consoles and I still get the exclusives. Of course you have to buy every one to get the exclusives you want.

I feel like I didnt miss out on anything (that I care to play, again stuff like Starcraft and Diablo dont interest me that much) not playing modern PC games this gen. Where say if I didnt have a PS3 I would have missed out some of the greatest games this gen. It cant be the ultimate platform because of that. They all play their part.

Well I never said I was going PC only and wasn't playing consoles anymore though. But if you have a powerful PC, it really IS the ultimate platform for MOST games. Obviously once in awhile somebody half asses a PC version of a given game, but for the most part you get superior versions for a cheaper price. Its not a win win situation since obviously you have to shell out the cash for the hardware & at least somewhat know what you're doing if you run into problems. But if you have the hardware and know how to use it, its great.

I am really loving Tomb Raider...fuck me its different but so damn good and keeps getting better. Crystal Dynamics have really upped their game over the past few years. Back in the late 90's they seemed like one of the best up and coming developers...then they kind of faded & seemed destined for obscurity for awhile. But once they started working with Tomb Raider, they've gotten better and better over the past 6 years & now feel like an elite developer again.

If this is where they are at now, I really hope the rumors of a Legacy Of Kain revival are true.

Yeah because he said Nintendo would be in trouble.

I remember a few weeks ago he said that the NeXbox will be always online and I said in that thread on Gamespot that "So the NeXbox will be always offline?"

He's predicting a winner based on a console he hasn't seen yet. Now we can all do this and speculate but this ass gets paid for it and that's why he pisses me off. His reasoning is ass, skype and a tv tuner = insta win? RAM = innovation? There are so many other analysts but he gets massive prominance because he's not a reasoned and balanced speculator - he's a like a loud mouthed clueless forumer who hit the jackpot. He's a professional jackass.

It's a pretty sharp looking game, good texture work, nice depth of field, natural lighting, detailed but clean too.

They say its being in development for 3 years. Looks decent.

How would pirates be prevented from simply copying what's inside the dongle?

Don't know. Maybe there's some kind of chip or processor inside the dongle that would be too difficult or expensive to copy?

In short (and very simple terms) it comes down to the USB and computer creating a unique lock and key when they first meet, so that the dongle cannot be used on another computer.

In other news, I have no internet this week other than occassional tethering to my smart phone.  Phone company problems.  Telstra is the worst company in the western world.  The worst.

Totally understandable as the very best versions are on PC. I guess the question I would ask, not just to you we can ask everyone here. If you had to choose one platform/console this gen, already knowing all the games that have come out and knowing which ones you would have missed out of and which you get to play, which would it be?

For me it would have been PS3. Not having Nintendo would have hurt but there is no way I could go through this gen missing out on almost every big game. Sony has the exclusives I want and got pretty much every major third party game, the worst version usually but stuff like that doesnt bother me.

Current-gen Fox Engine visuals look "near indistinguishable" from the real thing, mag reckons:

A modified version of Kojima Productions' Fox Engine will be used to power both the current and next-generation versions of future PES titles, it's been revealed.

The new engine's scalability, which is expected to be introduced with this year's PES 2014, will mean that both the current and next-gen versions of Konami's football game will benefit from enhanced visuals and "barycentre physics", which offers players "more realistic centres of balance" and a greater sense of physicality.

According to the latest issue of EDGE, the new engine "looks incredible" on PS3, with in-engine visuals that look "near indistinguishable" from the real world. "Only some intricate background detail betrays the CG version," EDGE states. "In terms of quality, think of the Fox Engine 'boardroom' test image... It looks incredible, but we're assured it's all running on PS3." Though the new engine may debut on current-gen consoles, Konami plans to use Fox Engine to power next-gen versions of PES, too.

"Our new engine isn't limited to the next few years, but [is ready] for next-gen platforms," senior producer Naoya Hatsumi says, as creative producer Kei Masuda hints towards cross-device functionality.

"It is not just about making games for the TV; the engine can adapt to any platform, like tablet or mobile," says Masuda.

"The concern is fewer people will have time to pick up their controllers and play games on the TV. The market has shrunk, so we want to make it possible to, say, edit players on your phone or alter formations, so when you turn on your game, you can instantly start playing with your favoured pre-sets. We want PES to fit around users' lifestyles."

PES 2014 has yet to be officially announced by Konami. Nevertheless, expect it to launch on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC - and potentially PlayStation 4, Microsoft's next-gen Xbox and Wii U - later this year.

If I could have had a killer PC back in 2005 I would say PC. I didn't have a great PC until 2008 though. If I went with a console, it would have been the 360 because for me the 360 had more exclusives that I cared about than the PS3 did, and also had the majority of games while all the Wii was good for was a select number of exclusives.

Not liking what I'm hearing about MS's Xbox 3 strategy though....you may be right about the PS4 being the better option of the two. That interview with the Braid guy is exactly what I'm fearing from Microsoft.

360 for me. I enjoyed their exclusives the most and although multiplats are generally equal on both these days there were some important issues that plagued the PS3 versions in a few particular games. Would have been bummed to miss Nintendo's games and a few PS3 exclusives though.

Based on what I know now, I would pick the PS3. I didn't care much for the PS1 or PS2 back in the day, so I really didn't expect to like the PS3 either, but it has become my favorite console this gen. I wish I had bought one earlier. I originally went with the 360 because its exclusives appealed to me more at the time, but I didn't even like most of them. Losing the Nintendo exclusives would suck, especially Super Mario Galaxy, but the PS3 just offers a whole lot more value with its great exclusives, strong third party support, Blu-ray, and the Plus service.

As much as I would hate to lose the Nintendo exclusives, I would go with the PS3 as well.  There's so much extra value with the games and Blu Ray movies.
