After taking a little inspiration from a certain bug-like person from a certain gaming forum, I've decided to try and work my way thru my first Layton game! I'm actually going to play The Last Specter first, then go back and play Unwound Future should I actually see Specter thru to the end. Yes, it's true I am playing waaaay too many games at the moment, but Layton will be the game I play when I don't feel like playing a game. (If that makes any sense.) I am playing them in that order since Specter is a prequel to the series and Future is the last in the currently available timeline. I'm hoping I like them enough to get the TWO 3DS versions when they hit my side of the world sometime next year. I played a bit of Curious Village and allowed myself to get way too frustrated by it. I don't remember if you COULDN'T or if I just REFUSED to not bypass puzzles, but I allowed myself to be defeated by it too quickly. I am taking my time with each puzzle, mulling them over for a while, allowing myself to enjoy the storyline, animation and atmosphere each game presents. Wish me luck!

Aww!!

There is a hint system.  You are allowed up to three hints for each puzzle should you need them (hint coins are plentiful so you don't need to worry about running out of them).  The first hint is obscure, the second is useful ... the third practically solves the puzzle for you.  So even if you're stuck on a puzzle which is necessary for the story to progress (there are a lot which are not) there's always help at hand to stop you from getting frustrated.

I hope you will grow to love this beautiful series.  It really has been one of the best new things in gaming for me over the last five-six years.

I love the animation, voice-acting and quirky characters of the series already. I've always let the puzzles get in the way of my enjoyment though, ironically enough! I am the type of person that REFUSES to use help and, thus, the hint coins... but I am trying to go a little bit easier on myself with this one. I find if I take my time, think the puzzles out over a few days (if need be) and go back, they're not as hard as I make them out to be. I get VERY angry when it is the wording of the puzzle and not the puzzle itself that I trip up on. I am quickly getting used to the way the game states the puzzles in the first place and getting better at detecting when they are trying to trick you. I don't know if you are playing Specter yet or not, but Luke's Puzzle to get into his room is a tiny example of what I mean. I am very good at the visual puzzles, but puzzles like the "Mop" one in the foyer of Luke's house... those stump me up almost every time! We'll see. I am actually stuck on one puzzle right now, but I put it down for a while to play some Dragon Quest Monsters and I'll go back to it later.

I love the extras the game(s) pack(s) in. I am trying to hold off on London Life to play after completing the main game, but I LOVE the Train Game! It reminds me of my Grandpa and the train set he got for me when I was little! I think Unwound Future has the Hamster mini-game, correct? Can't wait to try THAT one! Question for you regarding that, btw...? Can you torture the Hamster if he goes invisible on you or makes snarky comments to your Website posts? Just curious.

Hey Leo. I am out of town again, in Bath, NY. So cold.

I haven't been on lately cause when I get home I feel like I have to play like a crazy person to squeeze in all these games. Now I am out of town and I will be posted much more for the next 2 days. I'll be home Tuesday in time to get Uncharted and Sonic. BTW buy Sonic and I will love you forever. Nyaa

I have been playing Batman, just finished the story so I was able to finish it in time. Phew. Sadly I wont get to really sink my teeth into it until later but I got the story done. U3 shouldnt be a long game, nor Sonic so I should finish those two easily before Skyrim. I cant believe that so far I am managing to get through this onslaught. There is no way I can finish Skyrim in a week though.

Cold sucks!

I've been finishing almost nothing these days! My streak from the beginning of the year ended months ago...

This was the progression: Disgaea 4 --> Dark Souls --> Batman --> Dragon Quest --> BattleField 3...

...with a few other games (Dead Island, Gears, Rage and Rune Factory) started and stopped in between.

I've just finished Dragon Quest this evening, but there's no way in HELL I'll be able to stay focused with:

Uncharted 3 + Sonic Generations + Lord of the Rings + Cave Story 3D + Metal Gear HD + Mario Land 3D + Skyrim

...RIGHT around the corner!
