It was a write up by a gaffer not like an official story from some game journo. It's not the first time Retros original IPs have been shot down, remember Raven Blade, that twisted metal game and the madden clone?
Remember the 3 Armature guys? They've done nothing, had every project cancelled and are now years later, apparently making a Vita game. I think DKC returns outsold MP3 by a like 3 million or so, that might have Nintendo thinking - more DK or an original IP that might fail?
Resistance is definitely average shit....I honestly don't know why it got so much hype. I know its a PS3 exclusive from Insomniac and all, but still. There is nothing special about that game whatsoever. Its like a Medal of Honor meets Gears Of War ripoff, but nowhere near as good. The game does get better later in the game, but still nothing to write home about.
If it was not for Nintendo Retro would be bankrupt a long time ago. So yeah, probably just like Silicon Knights, but without the Canadians bailing them out.
Different people different opinions. Some wanted to make DKCR other wanted to do something different.
DKCR outsold all Metroid Prime games combined, of course they are making a sequel.
I'd take the original IP. And if Nintendo's serious about attracting the gamers to Wii U, they would start letting Retro do what they wanted to do. That's how developers come up with cool original shit on the other consoles. This is Nintendo's biggest issue....trying to break away from the broken record of Mario/Zelda/Metroid/Donkey Kong to take some chances at something new. Then they buy a studio that comes up with something new, and refuse to release it worldwide, like Xenoblade
Those old games that got shot down, were shot down before Retro were really Retro, and to focus on Metroid. At this point 10 years later, its time IMO for something new. And whether those guys that left have done nothing or not, they were still the guys responsible for creating one of the best games ever, and obviously the team had chemistry.
What's really a shame about it is all these guys that had more of a PC/FPS background at Retro, and brought something different to the usual Nintendo 1st-party table, are leaving. Guys that started Retro came from ID Software, now guys are going back.
That was great and all while they were working on Metroid, but if they're going to be the Mario Kart track team they may as well be bankrupt as far as I'm concerned.
And that's a sad thing.
They are not working on Mario Kart. They are just helping with the Donkey Kong track by handing over assests of DKCR. This issue is way overblown.
No it is not, DKCR is awesome.
I'm not saying it isn't, but for it to outsell all Metroid games combined is pretty sad in my book.
Metroid was never a big seller and DKCR has sold 5 million and is still selling. Different genre, different sale numbers, 2D platformers sell more than First Person action adventures. They all made a profit, that is what is important. We got 3 Metroid games and probably will have another DK game.
Another thing, David Wise (composer from Rare that did DKC2 music) is free now, they have to hire him. Hip Tanake is good, but is music style is better suited for Metroid.
I'm honestly surprised Insomniac hasn't been better than they have been on the PS3. I expected them to be one of my favorite developers on the PS3, and instead I've barely cared for them at all. 3 Resistance games, which IMO is an average franchise, and a few Ratchet & Clank games that don't really add anything to the series but HD graphics. Naughty Dog has pwned them.
On PS2, it was the opposite: I found Naughty Dog's games kind of blah, while Insomniac had the better platformer franchise. I would have expected Insomniac to be the ones to make Uncharted, and Doughty Dog Resistance.
They really need to find a way to freshen up their games. Ratchet & Clank was incredible when it 1st came out in 2002, because it was fresh and different for a platformer. All these cool gadgets and innovative weapons, and some of the best graphics on the console, mixed with a humorous story. It was something I would have expected out of Rare back in its heyday on the N64. Then Ratchet 2 was the safe sequel, which was fine as it was still fresh. Ratchet 3 was another safe sequel....ok, its still good even if a bit stale. Then Ratchet Deadlocked...wait, what's this? Stripping out the platforming and focusing on combat? Err, no.
Since then they've really done nothing too impressive IMO. The PS3 Ratchet games are GOOD, but as I said, the freshness and innovation is gone.
^And don't forget that in 2007 Mario Galaxy came out and pimped slapped all other platformers like Yamauchi pimped slapped Iwata after losing his $500,000,000 in a single day and then cutting has salary in half. No one messes with Yamauchi.
We don't have a ton of Mexicans and the ones we have are hard workers. Why would we shoot cubans if we are all practically cubans.
No hunting GG. my dad bought guns cause it's his new fad. He saw a zombie show and got obsessed with the idea of having guns for a zombie invasion. It's his excuse for collecting guns.
I don't know ask Castro
He is the asshole they are all running from. We love our Cuban rafters.
Until they take your jobs, so better shoot them while they are still floating.
I cannot stress this enough: If you have the means to play Bastion, DO SO!
It could very well end up being my GOTY this year!
The incredible narration. The gameplay engine that gives you so many ways to fight, so fighting is always fun, unique and different. The fact that you can adjust the difficulty to your liking by invoking the gods (reminds me of TWEWY). The music. The story. EVERYTHING about it is heads and shoulders above practically everything else (especially retail releases), that --THIS-- game, more than any other downloadable before it, DEMANDS ATTENTION!
So horrible, lol
As far as South Florida goes the only ethnics that routinely manage to get and maintain a bad rep are the Haitians, Brazilians, and maybe the Columbians. The Cuban community is one of the key things that actually make the region so freaking cool. The old Jewish retirees might not like them, but in all fairness they don't like anyone.
If it wasn't so funny, it'd be sad how all the different cultures of South Florida really can get kind of nasty with one another. There is a very distinct pecking order going on down there.
Thanks for the explanation Robio.
Here is how the rest of America thinks of Florida
So what do you all think of the nameing of Mario Kart 7?
Usually a publisher avoids numbering a game past 3 (with the obvious exceptions of FF and DQ).
Game Informer theorized it was Nintendo's way of underscoring the title as a new property (not to be confused with the N64 ports the 3DS is getting).
