If Sony had better security this would not have happened to them, just as if the State Department had better security they would not have had their data exposed. I don;t know how much youv'e read about the Sony security problem, but it was an elementary error that could have been avoided.
Hackers are not a reason to shut a game down. Anyway, why not patch in some good ol software security like PC games? Like Valve? Hackers or no, they still connect with their PSN accounts, so how about banning them as usual? An adaptation of Punkbuster for PS3? Anything? Surely they'd like to keep their customers regardless of Sony? Anyway, I still doubt the issue being so widespread considering how recent the hack is and what it takes to do it. Besides, hacking is possile in all online games, if not with exploits and cheats, then with good ol lag switches. That doesn't make them shut down the servers of all their games on all platforms.
Famitsu review scores:

Dragon Age: Origins (PS3/360) – 10/10/8/9

Dream Club Zero (360) – 7/7/8/7
Wizardry Twin Pack (PS3) – 8/7/6/6
Mind Jack (PS3/360) – 7/7/6/6
Gal*Gun (360) – 7/7/6/6
Shooting Studio (PS3) – 7/7/6/6

The optimist proclaims we live in the best of all possible worlds
while the pessimist fears this is true.

I don't disagree with any of that. Other than that this is going to be something difficult to pull off, and therefore has limited impact. There are commercial interests that sell piracy tools, and they will make it easy for anyone to use their PS3 with pirated materials.
It's easy to use your PC like that, that doesn't make PC BLOPS an unplayable mess that needs to be taken down. Anyway, my point was for the current situation, not what may come in the future. I doubt it's currently a huge issue in any game, and it shouldn't be a reason to shut it down even if so. I wasn't talking about piracy either, but about hackers. What do pirates have to do with shutting the servers down? You keep your servers up for your customers, if more people connect to your servers is a non issue and happens on many platforms with nobody shutting down the games because of it. It's not exactly costly to track some pirate's statistics. The real bandwidth usage becomes to the players only, not Activision/Sony servers. Host migration and all that, it's the players acting as the game servers and using their bandwidth, all Activision does is matchmaking and stat tracking. If they must, add one time online activation to their next game, piracy is a good excuse for doing something like this (even if doing so is more for second hand sales), but not for shutting down games.

I agree with all that. Seems like an excuse for Activision at this point.

Since I've been playing nothing but 90's games for a month, so I figure I'll bust out a quick current gen game to unblock some mental pipes, and I pop in Frontline: Fuel of War -- a military shooter. After playing one level I was practically having a heart attack. Hot Damn, games look damn good these days.
I have not played a good current gen military shooter since probably MW1-- I'm having a good time with it. I think it has a metacritic of 85, fo rsome reason I thought it was a squad-based shooter, so I'd been avoiding it, but it's a straight up FPS.
How many hours till the 3DS conference?
2.5 hours my time!
Starts at 9AM EST!
Find out WHEN that is for you!
screen reminds me of Black, another last gen console shooter set in modern times. i really enjoyed that game and look forward to Criterion getting a chance at developing another shooter at some point

I've got a pretty bad fever and sore throat at the moment. Sadly, I'll be home and NOT in the Rockefeller Center area for the 3DS conference, but I'll be following the live streams and passing on info here, provided I don't pass out first... Whee...!
