Sony details differences between Wiimote and Move: Wiimote use is like walking in a room with your eyes shut

"An analogy for that -- [the Wii Motion's general input] -- is if you close your eyes and try to walk across the room. You know you're going forward but you're really not sure where you are in space. You're kind of stumbling.  That's why they end up doing a lot of gestures where you swing forward and swing left. We're more of a spatial device. We can do quick gestures. But at the same time, we also have the smooth positionings. So we can do another level of gameplay where you can fake left and then go under and low. You can do complex motions that don't just trigger gestural inputs, but move how you move." - Anton Mikhailov, a software engineer in research & development at SCE

I like how he completely ignores the existence of MotionPlus.

Actually if you read the source article (linked in the updates) he is talking about motionplus.

Miyamoto honored by Move, Natal

"Nintendo should welcome the opportunity when or where something we have originally tried is intensified by somebody else, because that means that other people are trying to starting to show their appreciation for whatever endeavor we have made in the beginning.   The user experience we have created is going to be intensified by the advent of new machines from other companies. It's a new experience that we originated. So we really see it as a great honor." - Shigeru Miyamoto

(Miyamoto used that bit of conversation to jump into talk of Nintendo's approach to the games market.  When they were creating new hardware, they aren't focusing on competition with other companies.   They are simply trying to provide a unique experience.)

"What is very important for Nintendo is always thinking in terms of the appropriate types technology for us - unique and unprecedented entertainment to come up with technology that's something new. That's our mission.  It needs to be something very different, something unique. That's something we always look for. Of course, sometimes we need to intensify the forms we have already come up with, but that's not the first priority for us. Competing with other companies in that category is never our top priority."

Sony - Move should break less TVs than Wiimote

"If you fling it at your TV -- you should be wearing a wrist strap -- but if you do happen to hit it with the top-end, the TV should win.  One feature is that the sphere is soft -- you can squish it. What that's for, first and foremost, is safety. So when you hit somebody or drop the device -- if you were to make this out of plastic a lot of people were worried that the ball would just snap off. That did actually happen. One of the first prototypes we made, we made it out of plastic. People would drop it and it would just break in half. Now it passes a drop test and stuff." - Anton Mikhailov, a software engineer in research & development at SCE

LOL You can squish it, squish it like a big pink marshmellow. Happy

Miyamoto may have cussed up a storm, or he just laughed at them. I choose to believe the latter.

Happy

Like one of those stress release balls.  That should be very useful when I can't control a game because it's not a real controller.

Miyamoto may have cussed up a storm, or he just laughed at them. I choose to believe the latter.

Probably just smoked another joint, or dropped some acid and talked to the Pikmin in his garden about it.

For the record I've never been to this convention, nor have I ever met this.... person...  I'm pretty sure person is a safe bet.

I was waiting for you to show us pictures of this... person ... snuggling up to you at a bar.

Er, that Sony quote bashes motion plus games for having gestures (um, no gestures in certain Wii Sports Resort events, which kinda proved 1:1-ish play is fun but can also be pretty shallow, so Red Steel 2 did good to add gesture specials on top of waggle slashing, but anyway) yet their GDC game software demos were gesture based?

No the bastard hasn't referred to any of that. He said on Wednesday night, "I don't know what I can do to help you. But I'm positive it will get better." And I'm like, "Hooooooooooow?" Considering it's been getting worse and the exercises haven't been helping. And he's like... let me retry the blood tests we took a year ago to see if anything has changed. No mention of Ortho, Chiropracter, Rhemetology.

I've been wearing the posture support for the past 4 hours or so. Seems to help a lot. But wont be of much use when I have to lie down. I hope it relieves the over stretching/pressure and allows the muscles or discs to heal.

Damn. At least he's being honest. LOL

Seriously, though. He needs to start doing a proper workup or refer you to a specialist who can do that. You need to rule out:

  • Spine illness which can lead to chronic muscular contractures, as well as nerve compression. Also discal hernia. That is ruled out by an Orthopaedist.
  • Inflammatory disease, like fibromyalgia. That should be approached by a Rheumatologist.
Do not try out chiropractors or alternative medicine before being properly assessed by a physician with his head out of his ass.

Funny rant I found:

Gran Turismo 5 Features

Polyphony Digital have announced that Gran Turismo 5 will support head tracking.
Polyphony Digital have announced that Gran Turismo 5 will have rally mode in-car replay.
Polyphony Digital have announced that Gran Turismo 5 will support night mode.
Polyphony Digital have announced that Gran Turismo 5 will support 3D.
Polyphony Digital have announced that Gran Turismo 5 will support motion control.
Polyphony Digital have announced that Gran Turismo 5 will show live weather conditions.
Polyphony Digital have announced that Gran Turismo 5 will use 500,000 polygons per car.

Great. Does it support cars and tracks? Does it support the use of a standard PS3 controller? Good, then RELEASE THE F*CKING THING.

Bunch of dudes got fired from IGN last week?  Where was the news story?

Seriously, what's the deal? Maybe Matt Cassassinscreedmania get the heads up and went for the early departure.  Who knew about this? Iga? Wassup? C'mon, someone tell me who all got fired.

So?! Here in Rotterdam there are plenty of useless bums that got fired. You don't see that in the news either! Same thing applies for IGN, useless bums get fired, big deal. Wake me up when someone with an actual job that requires real journalism and critical thinking gets fired.

I got to agree with this. People getting fired isn't news. It's not more news than having a bowel movement after a big meal. It happens every day, and these days more than ever.
