So much lameness in those pics. There is some downright trashy games on Wii.

"Nintendo sent out a press release today triumphantly boasting of
victory in an Australian court over a man accused of pirating New Super
Mario Bros. Wii. And how this single man now owes the mega-rich company
$1.5 million.

Last November, Nintendo says it was able to "employ the use of
sophisticated technological forensics" to catch the man, James Burt,
who has been convicted of uploading the word's first pirated copy of
New Super Mario Bros. Wii onto the internet.

Burt - a single man, not a company or group - now must pay the
Japanese publisher and platform holder AUD$1.5 million (USD$1.3
million), "to compensate Nintendo for the loss of sales revenue caused
by the individual's actions."

Yes, he broke the law. And as a pirate, should be punished. But this is a game that's sold over 10 million copies in just three months.

Nothing like a little disproportionate punishment to maintain that lovable image, eh Nintendo?"

:X

That's awesome, I love it. I don't care if he's one person or not nor do I care if the game sold millions or not he deserves to get his ass nailed to the wall and perhaps it will wake others up and there'll realise that doing this sort of thing is a serious crime. This is music to my ears. Grinning

Great to see Dragon Age do so well, excellent game. I also tried a little bit of the Sonic and Sega All-stars racing game demo and it seemed to be quite good. It looks to be a great way to get your "Mario Kart" fix on the HD systems. Surprisingly this may actually be a purchase for me. I love me my Mario Kart and have been itching for a similar experience on the 360.

Yes, nothing's a more serious crime than stealing something that doesn't actually exist!

The capitalist comment made me lol, as redistributing wealth sounds quite socialist to me!

Huh? What do you mean something that doesn't exist? Also I didn't say it was "more serious" then anything else just that I consider it a serious problem.

"Nintendo sent out a press release today triumphantly boasting of

Grinning

nintendo will get nothing.  you can't draw blood from a stone.  what they achieve is look like the money hungry bastards that they are and make people like me hate them ... like lars ulrich and metallica or eminem when they were throwing hissy fits against napster

By it doesn't exist I mean intellectual property and copyright infringement are not tangible things. If you steal a handbag or a car (to use the DVD's analogy) that means that nobody else can have that car or handbag because it is a physical thing, where as if you pirate a game at the very worst all you can say is that the potential buying of a game did not take place, which requires a fair bit of speculation in most cases if you ask me!

So they look like money-hungry bastards because they don't want people stealing from them? Pfft! I think that's absurd. If someone stole from me I'd sure as hell do more then just fine them. The notion that it's ok to steal from a company that makes money from their product is flat-out ridiculous. It's entertainment not a necessity of life like food.

Nintendo isn't stupid. They know they won't get any money from this guy. They did it to make an example out of him.

But wouldn't a large percentage of the 1.5million dollars they're forcefully taking from him be spent on necessities of life? Nyaa

So if someone copied a released product of yours without buying it and you had no way of knowing if they'd actualyl buy it or not, you'd be pissed off on the off chance that they might have bought it?

Which probably won't deter anyone from piracy and just fuck one guy over. (But this is the sort of speculation that I shouldn't be doing!)

Yes, and I was implying in an exagerrated way that it's not a serious problem. Nyaa

Bah. It's still as much as a real thing as anything else, people worked to create that product. It doesn't matter if those people that downloaded it "would have bought it or not" they still stole something. I can steal anything else and simply say that I wasn't going to buy it anyway but that doesn't make it any more right. These pirates steal a product and make it available to anyone for free I think they should be made to pay for every single instance that that product was download. Circumventing copyright protections to distrubute something is a blatantly criminal act and I strongly believe that it's a very serious problem for the entertainment industry and has grown exponetionally over the last few years. It's a problem that NEEDS to be solved. For pirates like this I say "Fuck 'em" They can rot for all I care. They'll get no sympathy from me.

Well, sure but Nintendo screwed themselves when it comes to piracy by releasing a digital product in this day and age. Nyaa

Of course, but once again the difference is there is no tangible effect here, where as if you stole something else in another way there would be an effect other than the vague potential of a company losing money.
