Oh I didnt tell you guys, last night at the hospital I had to deal with old woman saggy breasts. These old lady comes in for a right upper quadrant. I ask her to raise her blouse so I can reach the area and she instead unbuttons it and lets her old boobs hang out, I quickly cover them with a towel.  Well they were big and saggy so it was covering the area I needed to scan so I had to go under the boobs... Well it definetely beats old man penis but old person anything is kind of nasty.

Oh and a different old lady, a 99 year old one told me she loved me after I covered her up when the exam was over. Really weird night it was.

So Spirit Tracks is really good.  I did enjoy PH as much as I trash it but I dont think I enjoyed it this much. ST shares some of the same ideas, especially the use of map writing to solve puzzles but I think ST has better puzzles. The 2nd dungeon is fantastic making new use of the boomerang which in involves fire and ice. Maybe the biggest difference is that the main dungeon in this game is awesome. In PH it was almost MGS like at times, very different for a Zelda game. Here it is more traditional, its like those dungeons where you have a partner, think WW. What is great is that each new section adds a totally new gameplay mechanic. Also it doesnt follow the use new item to get by formula, in these floors  you need to use everything you have.

Too top it all off the combat is fantastic. Most enemies require you to use items in conjunction with the sword to take them out. Heart containers are not abundant so the game actually had me use a potion, I havent used a potion in a Zelda game in a long time. The few bosses I have fought have been stellar so far.

It is still all very linear, I haven't done much of anything that feels like side quests. I have revisited some towns with my new items to find a hidden area with a treasure chest which usually results in some valueable item like a necklace (again think WW). I have yet to find where I can turn these items in for money.Train riding is rather boring, they try to add enemies and some evil trains but it just makes the trip more annoying.

Maybe I got over the shock of how different these Zelda games are with PH, I dont know, I just know that I am enjoying this game very much.

vader i agree with everything you said as this mirrors my experience with the game so far.  to be very concise, i am loving it.  starting from the second dungeon and onward everything has been awesome.  after the ice dungeon there are a few easy side-quests you can do which will increase your heart pieces significantly quite suddenly but the game is still much more difficult than PH or any of the recent few Zeldas.  Combat is not trivial either and as Vader said there are times when combat mixes it up so much that it gets challenging.  For example you need to use an item for some enemies and you need to be using a different item to make sure you have a place to stand on which requires you to work fast and with good co-ordination.  it is also very much true that you keep needing to use all of your items to solve dungeons, not just your most recent one which makes them non-trivial.

vader you are also about to do some little tasks which are required for opening the way up to the next dungeon and you will in the process meet whom you will sell treasure to and buy train parts from.  and he will be a descendant of an old friend (which is another little touch to make this game seem like a direct sequel)

have now finished the 4 elemental dungeons and i'm going back to the tower for what may be the final session but i hope it isn't.  i'm enjoying this too much for it to end so soon

Yeah Bugs I did the combat training which gave me an easy heart and I almost didnt want it. I like have few hearts, makes it feel like NES Zelda. If you are going to remove the hidden hearts to find in the world, then remove hearts all together, only increase them after dungeons.

I kind of like the train part. Maybe it hasn't got to me yet but I find it relaxing and enjoyable.

I think at the end, Spirit Tracks is undoubtedly a much better experience and more fun than PH. I wasn't finding myself enjoying PH which is why it was the first Zelda game I didn't complete. But I'm having pretty fun with ST so far. I guess having Zelda as a playable and central character makes the game more fun and unique among the Zelda series. It does things that stand out.

But does the game still feel more casual and accessible to you guys? I'm not too deep into the game, but what do you guys think? Also, no spoilers please! WinkWink

 Spoiler -- it still sucks.

Seriously though, I have no desire to play this game.  My problem is that, aside from the obvious shortcomings of Phantom Hourglass in being relatively limited, the design itself was fundamentally flawed regardless of how much you "expand".  The combat, by necessity is terrible.  I assume that the item switching is still the same -- real-time with that bottom touch-screen thing.  You have either an item or your sword equipped so you have to switch, meaning the enemies have to be lobotomized and just stand there most of the time.  The camera is still going to be zoomed in too far, meaning again combat is even more broken, and progress through dungeons made irritating.  These are things that by design, the Spirit Tracks I feel safe in saying have not changed, because they can't be changed if they want to keep this stupid broken DS style.

I guess it still more accesible, I think the removal of the overworld exploring does that. But I cant say the gameplay is more casual cause this game has some fantastic puzzles and bosses.

with the removal of the overworld exploring though came the "avoid the evil trains or face instant death" mini-game which i don't think is so casual. and which i'm finding rather enjoyable.  also as vader said solving the puzzles is much more satisfying this time around as they're a lot less straight forward this time around.  bosses are amazing.  especially the ones in the ice, water and fire dungeons

Despite being written by IGN, they're both surprisingly good reads ( GASP ), and hit on many of the things I've been unhappy with regarding Nintendo and the Wii.

My sister bought herself Wii Fit Plus yesterday. I've been cursious about this thing for a long time now, so it was cool to finally try it out without having to pay $100 of my own money. My opinion of it after about two hours of play:

Flying chicken game = fun. Stupid, but fun.

Slalom = fun.

Ski Jump = more annoying than I thought it would be

Walking Platform Game = bleh

Everything else = meh

Overall = meh+

Most of the mini games remind me of the lameness of Wii Play, but uses a more expensive peripheral. My sister did not have everything unlocked yet, so there maybe other cool games to play, but I'm glad I didn't spend any of my money on it. That being said, I believe she will greatly enjoy it since she liked all of the games a LOT more than I did, and she's actually interested in the exercises, which I couldn't care less about.

IGN Column: Nintendo is Lazy and You Don't Care

IGN: Wii Need Achievements

Despite being written by IGN, they're both surprisingly good reads ( GASP ), and hit on many of the things I've been unhappy with regarding Nintendo and the Wii.

Is it better than the Trophies are awesome one? Because Millers argument seemed really weak to me.

i agree.  people should play good games for the enjoyment and fun of playing them, not any crap game just for scoring achievement points

Yeah I think Nintendo should definitely implement some sort of Achievement/Trophy system. It was a brilliant move by Microsoft to come up with.

The more and more I play The Saboteur, the more and more angry I get...

...and it's NOT because I find myself constantly surrounded by boobies...

The game is a vividly-depicted, open-world game set in 1940's Nazi-occupied, Paris, France.

The characters are much more detailed than any other open world game of this type.

You can steal cars and obtain a collection of them in a garage to be recalled at any time.

There are various Nazi Propaganda Speakers, Sniper Points, Fuel Depots and Radar Stations you can take out for Contraband (the game's currency) scattered around the huge, open map. There's the obligatory "Sweet Jumps" you can land in your vehicles for money also.

There are many colorful characters to provide many story missions to progress the plot stationed at many different spots throughout the city (My favorite being the Priest that meets you in a strip club to inform you of a Parisian who is selling info to the Nazis, who instructs you to "blow his fucking head off." You then have to wait on a sniper point during one of his sermons for his signal to kill the traitor.)

You have a perk system in this game where as you use more skills, the better they become. Set more dynamite charges to become quicker at doing so, for example... Or better yet, the more Nazis you Stealth Kill, the more Stealth moves you get, like the "Sucker Punch" where you hit a soldier in the face, taking him by surprise, then snapping his neck.

The stealth system is competent and works absolutely fine. Basically, if you kill a Nazi Soldier discreetly (without getting blood all over his uniform), you can steal his clothes and walk around the Nazi occupied areas undetected...

...Which leads to one of the selling points of the game. The art-style is such that the Nazi occupied areas are depicted in Black and White. The only things that are in color are Nazi Armbands on soldiers so you can pick them out in a crowd. Nazi insignias on various targets you can take out for money. Cover areas are depicted in Bright yellow so you can duck behind them if the action gets too intense. The resistance members typically have some shade of bright-blue on them so you can tell who they are too. The contrast of the bright colors versus the black and white looks REALLY, REALLY nice! Even better, when you clear the Nazis from an area, you see the color return in front of your eyes, kinda like what happens in Pleasantville, and its awesome each and every time you see it!

Did I mention the Parkour elements where you can scale buildings and major landmarks so you can take in the view of the "City of Lights?"

_____________________________

You're probably thinking by now: "What makes you angry about this? This sounds like a pretty typical sandbox game. It actually has quite a few unique things in it that make it stand out from a lot of the sandbox games out this year."

...and that's exactly IT. This IS a typical sandbox game. Not much better, but certainly not worse than inFamous, Prototype, Red Faction and all the others that came out this year. What makes me angry is this: REVIEWERS ARE LAZY, LYING, PAMPERED PRICKS that won't give a good score unless they are MOTIVATED to do so. This game came out during the holiday season, surrounded by dozens of other, higher-profile titles, so I am SURE it didn't get the attention it deserved. It was almost an afterthought by EA, made by a studio that was on its way out, so I am SURE it didn't get the marketing BUDGET other games of this type would have normally received...

...and so it will be ignored and forgotten and Pandemic will go out with a whimper, rather than the "bang" most of their games are so well known by.

Thanks Reviewers! That's responsible journalism!

Why am I so sure about this? Just one or two examples should suffice. One review that I read said the Stealth elements didn't work, that being in a Nazi uniform actually attracts MORE attention. This is blatantly WRONG. The reviewer obviously DID NOT learn how to play the game correctly! There is a circle of influence around Sean (the main character) when he is in disguise. It will grow when he does things that are "un-nazi" like, like climbing a building or running around wildly. It will shrink if you hold the "L2" button. Sean will then walk like a Nazi soldier, and other soldiers will walk right by him, if he stays in character and keeps a safe distance. How did this reviewer miss this? This is a MAJOR gameplay element!!! He was either rushed, didn't care, or didn't receive enough "motivation$" to pay close enough attention!

It may have been the same review or a different one, claiming the cover system was "broken" and that Sean wouldn't always hide or would hide when he shouldn't. In the opening stages of the game you are taught that by pressing "L2" you will take cover by walls or break cover if you need to run! There's that pesky "L2" button again! Why bother to learn to play a relatively unpopular game like The Saboteur... when Ubisoft gave you a free night in a Las Vegas hotel to play AssAssin's Creed 2? Better scores go to a similar game when there are more perks behind the review!

Grrr... It's maddening!

Anyway... I am thoroughly enjoying this game, and highly recommend at least a rental! It's like all the other games of its type out there currently but has enough unique elements to justify looking at it more closely...

Yes, you can try it for the boobies... but you can love it for what it IS too! Give it a chance... Piss on those fecking reviews, as Sean would probably say!

Of course just when I praise ST it decides to through me a boring fetch quest. I get to one side of the world only to be told that I need to travel to the other side of the world to pick up someone and bring him all the way back. Not only that, when you have a passenger you need to follow track rules which sometimes force you to slow down... Train riding around the world is not fun.
