I wonder how many tens of thousands of customers they will lose?
Why would they lose accounts? It's not that big of a hassle to do it.
If they are requiring an action from the consumer in order for them to maintain their accounts there will be a group that will just passively dissappear (infrequent users, clueless active users). Then you've got the same people who raged about Steam registration who'll actively cancel. The other group would be people who are reminded that they have a WoW account and cancel upon hearing the news because it's just another hassle.
At a company I used to work at we did this kind of thing occassionally just to purge dormant users (clearly those users were not paying a monthly fee).
That makes no sense because you would be using the controller anyway so you might as well use one of the 360 pads buttons. Natal would be more useful for things like head tracking and leaning. But for aiming or movement? Forget about it.
Yeah, thanks for posting that review text Leo as I probably would have been lazy enough not to go read one at the source myself otherwise. It sounds pretty good. I have lots of other stuff to get but this is now on the list, albeit at a low priority.
Updates done
The first proper details have emerged on WiiWare Castlevania game, The Adventure ReBirth.
Despite the fact ReBirth's been officially listed on Nintendo's release schedule, Konami's still yet to officially announce the game.
Regardless, a Japanese magazine has gone ahead and revealed it's a "concept remake" of Game Boy game Castlevania: The Adventure, with new enemies, music and altered level designs.
Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth is a WiiWare remake of a 1987 Game Boy Castlevania game. Different from the past Gradius and Contra rebirth games, which mixed new and old, this is a true remake, with a full graphic renewal of the classic levels. The game also promises new monsters and newly arranged music.
While we can't share the screens from Famitsu with you, we'd suggest picturing something like Symphony of the Night in terms of visuals. The game is fully 2D.
Further details on Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth should be coming shortly. A Japanese release is set for October 27 at 1,000 WiiPoints.
Just as official word of Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth has started hitting through Famitsu leaks, Konami has given given its first "Rebirth" WiiWare title a rebirth of its own. Gradius ReBirth saw an online update yesterday, offering owners of the shooter remake various fixes.
The official site lists the following changes:
Current owners can upgrade by redownloading, at no additional cost of course.
Predictably, it's also got updated 16-bit-esque visuals, as well as the addition of stairs to replace the Game Boy version's climbable ropes. STAIRS.
ReBirth will be out for 1,000 Wii Points in Japan on October 27 and erm... Q1 2010 in Europe, which is a bit harsh.
Well after listening to the podcast, they said they couldn't talk about it but said that it wasn't a B level game. With the inference that it was A level. But then Assamasina jokingly asked Craig "Is it C-level?"
Get ready for it. It's a flying game. I'll say no more.

Heads up, I finished Lost winds 2.
It's better than the first in every respect and took me 5 and a half hours to finish. The clock said 4 hrs 50 minutes but there were quite a few times where I got stuck and didn't save so its longer.
Its far more polished and intricate, just better all around than the first game. It doesn't really do a good job of explaining the old moves from the first game for Lost Winds noobs but I assume that's in the manual.
Graphics are some of the best on the system, ignore the screens you've seen this baby looks schweet on an SDTV. You can zoom the camera all the way in and its positively glowing. You even get this little fur suit and the snow particle effects are mesmerising.
Wow! I gotta learn to pay better attention to my Spidey-sense!
From Destructoid:
"Nintendo released the DSi just this year, but there are already rumors that a brand new system is in the works, and this could be a very big one. Gossip has surfaced concerning a new generation of DS. The "DS2" would be a complete overhaul with the system getting some serious power courtesy of the Zune HD processor.
Nvidia has allegedly won a contract to provide Nintendo's DS2 with Tegra chips, replacing the current DS' pair of sluggish processors with something considerably meatier. It's also been said that the new DS will be backwards compatible, not only making it a significant upgrade, but a significant upgrade that would shame the PSPgo and all its stupid design flaws.
The big meat of this rumor is that the DS2 could arrive as early as next year, which would be a potential kick in the teeth for anybody buying a DSi. I guess we'll have to just sit tight and wait for news. Whatever happens with the DS2, you can bet that Nintendo will keep it under lock and key for the foreseeable future. I hope it's not called DS2 though. That name looks horrible written down.
They should call it a DSgo."
That sucks.
I read that DS 2 info. It would be a waste to kill off the DS this early and bumping up the specs might actually be a detriment to portable developers. Having it using a similar power chip to other portable handhelds might lose you exclusives too.
OMG!!!! That train sequence has to be the GREATEST SINGLE ACTION SEQUENCE IN THE HISTORY OF VIDEOGAMES.
*Minor spoilers* It has it all, gunplay, platforming, stealth, fistfights, and boss fights. The ony thing I can think of that matches that was the final moments of MGS3 but that was more like multiple setpieces strung together, this is one gigantic one that takes nearly an hour. I am blown away.
