Agreed. What's really annoying is Capcom has made this "maybe" announcement several times before, and it just pisses me off more each time.

Capcom, enough already! Stop being assholes! Either make the game for Wii or don't.

Okay I did a few updates Happy

If MS use Natal as a means to soft launch a new 360, same tech with motion and a redesigned shell. It could be the big boot it needs to launch 360 sales.

Could Nintendo do Wii HD Next year or early 2011? Bring the tech up to the same levels as 360 and integrate motionplus?

I will read the miyamoto interview.

I'm liking this idea of relaunching  the current gen consoles via software and/or hardware add-on upgrades rather than rushing out all new consoles every 4-5 years. I have no doubt that all of the current gen consoles could easily last until 2014-15 before we'd actually need all new machines.

It's possible that Nintendo will launch a new console sooner than Microsoft and Sony since the Wii has much lower specs, but I honestly doubt they will. As long as the Wii remains profitable for them, Nintendo will milk it for as long as they possibly can. Casual gamers don't seem to care about graphics or that the Wii isn't HD; and as long as Nintendo continues to make new games based on their classic franchises, I'm sure their core fans will stick around too (they'll bitch about it, though. Nyaa ).

The Miyamoto interview is very interesting.  Nothing ground breaking as far as news, but it's interesting to get more information about his philosophies about Mario games, Zelda games, early game announcements, and how a developer can be successful in today's market (he throws a lot of praise toward Level 5 as the example).  It's just a genuinally good read.  Everyone take a look.

On the other end of the Nintendo spectrum we have Reggie who might be smoking crack.  He's trying to say GTA Chinatown will still sell millions of copies.  No Reggie it won't.  It was a great game, but the audience just didn't go for it (myself included).

Truth be told, after reading Miyamoto's interview I wonder if he was alluding to Chinatown Wars when he was talking about how developers should look at the audience before developing a game.

If Nintendo did release a new console with their traditional 5 year lifecycle and they upped the hardware, they would be getting a huge injection of 3rd party support because games could then exist cross platform and be easy to port. By then they might be able to release a machine with HD graphics at a reasonable cost to boot. And if everyone else is keeping the same hardware and just changing the controls, suddenly powerwise they are on a level playing field with the benefit of being the market leader.

The problem is, how do you convince the casual Wii owners to upgrade?

Crap Zelda sounds like its years away. I thought Miyamoto said it could be released next year? Does NOT sound like it.

Wired.com: That’s good. I would have saved that for the game instead of telling me. Shifting gears again: Why did you decide to show that image from Zelda at a Q&A session, instead of the press conference?

Miyamoto: There are a couple of reasons. One is that personally I think the videogame industry has adopted a bit of a bad habit in this idea of announcing games long before they’re ever going to release. I don’t necessarily think it’s the most healthy of habits. In terms of the media briefing itself, for us that’s a place where we’re going to talk about our business for the coming year and the products that we’re going to release over the next 12 months or so. To that end, looking at how many products we have here at the show, we felt that it was important to focus on those products, important to focus on the Metroid announcement, and that the announcement of a Zelda game was not as high of a priority. It’s a particular challenge for me, and the way that I develop games, because we tend to not release games before they’re done, and that makes it hard to announce things very far in advance.

The other reason, relating to Zelda in particular, is that the development of Zelda has been focused strictly on the gameplay structure at this point. We haven’t devoted much in the way of efforts to things like graphical representation, and story, and those types of production elements. Because of that, we thought it was just more valuable to continue have the team focus their energies on creating what will be a very entertaining gameplay system, rather than have them waste their energies creating a trailer to announce a game at E3 very far in advance.

I'm thinking that the casual games audiance will look at video games the way the movie industry has handled home movie distribution. The VCR was released in the late '70s, and wasn't replaced until the late '90s. DVD movies have been on the market for over a decade now, and despite Sony's best efforts to replace it with Blu-Ray, most consumers seem to be perfectly happy with their standard DVD player. Taking this in mind, the worst thing a casual console maker could do is replace the hardware too soon, and alienate/piss off their market. I believe casual gamers will need not only an significant reason to upgrade, but also enough time to feel like they've gotten their full value out of the current console.

Crap Zelda sounds like its years away. I thought Miyamoto said it could be released next year? Does NOT sound like it.

Well, Nintendo never said it was coming out next year; all of the news media stated their opinion of the games release as fact, most likely to generate more traffic to their websites.

The problem is, how do you convince the casual Wii owners to upgrade?

You nailed it. Which puts Nintendo is a bad position as the Wii audience isn't a dead set cross over to the next console. But then the PS2 audience didn't cross over to PS3 on masse either so who the hell knows?

Miyamoto said it was far into development and would release in 2010, maybe slightly longer. However they may be designing their games like Retro designed Metroid Prime. They do all the level design and gameplay in wireframe and very basic graphics to play through and test rigourously and then begin applying art and textures. So it may not be as far off as I thought.

Hmm, I don't recall Miyamoto saying that about the next Zelda's release. All I heard was news reporter's speculation about that based on him talking about it last week. Perhaps I missed something in all the confusion known as E3.

Guys I just installed the Homebrew Channel, Homebrew Browser and Gecko OS. I can now play NTSC games.

What happens if you want to repair it now? Or if you want to update the firmware?

If you remove your SD card, the Wii will boot up normally. And update the firmware when you know for sure if it does not brick your system. The twilight hack was beaten, but they have a new hack, BootMii. Which is much more difficult to brick.

Okay I just imported MadWorld and No More Heroes from videogamesplus and I payed only 60 Euro's with shipping cost's.

Bloody version and 60HZ version here I come. Of course I could play the PAL version, but I have higher standers than you hobo's Nyaa!

Considering how cheap those games are to buy here in europe, you actually lost out Nyaa

No 60 euros for 2 games is still a good deal. I would have brought Madworld voor 50 Euros.

GG, I saw Eledees, Bully and de Blob for 55 Euros. How that for a good deal.

I love what Miyamoto said about Zelda, focus on gameplay first, then everything else. That is why he is the master. Hopefully its still coming out in a year or so cause if it, Zelda once again will be caught in a console transition at which point he might as well make it a launch game for the new system.

  • No More Heroes (NTSC)
  • de Blob
  • Eledees
  • Bully

Yep, that's that's too bad, but WMP will have to wait. It's the only logical choice (7 games instead of 4).

And as you can see I am not affraid to take a risk. The risk being Eledees, Bully, No More Heroes, MadWorld, well pretty much all of them. With the right attitude even Superman 64 can become enjoyable.

That's a great list of titles Iga, particularly Bully. I love that game.

Dual Wii/Wii Too game?

Ugh. The problem with these games is that they take so long to make. But you want them to be good so they take time. I think Motionplus will give the series a kick in the pants. Not that it needs it IMO.
