BTW, didn't Zack and Wiki sell like 300k+? That's pretty damn good for an adventure game...a niche puzzle/adventure game at that! Ironically I remember quite a few ads on TV for it here.
“It [Zack & Wiki] did not sell 500K units or anywhere near it. To the best of my knowledge, the 300K figure quoted by IR included European orders from Nintendo who published the title on our behalf in that territory. Nor did it do the volume it did do at anywhere near frontline pricing (in the US anyway). And what you think was a cheap game to make, wasn’t. Great games almost never are"
is little king's story released in 3 days or 30 days? i see contrasting information on websites.
i'm pre-ordering it regardless, along with blast works (even though i doubt that will ever actually be released in europe).
April 24th in europe.
We have no idea if this is real or not, but an Italian video of two people playing something called Wii Qube has appeared, as has some product shots of a “Wii Expander,” some “Relax” Wii headphone and a “Wii Silicon Belt”.
Watch the video after the break. The shots are here.
There’s a press release there mentioning both “Wii Qube” and “Wii Relax”.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata is to keynote GDC today at 9.00am PST (4.00pm GMT). Is a cat out of a bag? That video looks sketchy. We’re sure you see the woman’s pants at one point.
300k is good sales too me. Expensive or not, they'd have to be complete morons to think it'd sell a hell of a lot more.
Of course they are Capcom...
300k is mostly Euro sales. I think the general gist of his argument was that Nintendo ordered i.e bought the bulk of that number to publish in europe but that it didn't neccessarily sell at retail.
In europe it was a full price game, in America, it was lower priced. Personally I think companies are missing a trick in not repeat advertising and going for long term sales. It's been done on both DS and Wii. The audience isn't like the traditional blow your wad on a new release and then let it sink. It's more like little bits picked up over a long period of time. But you have to get awareness and putting print ads in mags where people already know about the game is useless. TV is where it's at.
Pub Company ® to Game Connection San Francisco for a new generation of video games. Password innovation ... and mind control! E 'already prepared the next generation of video games called "iiiTM" (Individual Immersive Interaction) from the revolution of the classic tetris game in the first mind control ready this winter for Nintendo WiiTM San Francisco (CA) - March 25'09 - The seventh game was started in 2005 with the launch of Xbox 360 ® followed shortly after by PlayStation ® 3. Now, thanks to the innovative concept of the game by PubCompany ® you can think of a further step towards a new era. This is the generation of games "3iTM" or "iiiTM (Immersive Individual InteractionTM) in which the interaction is totally individual (and 'the player who, with the body or mental control, define its interaction with the game, and not vice versa) and immersive (the interaction is not ' "the player's finger-button joystick" but there' involvement el'immersione sensory, physical and mental, of the player).
Sometimes the best ideas are born from the simple observation of phenomena that made entertainment history fun, or start at absolutely concepts away from logics that dominate this market, such as the use of force of the mind. But the common denominator is what has surprised us in science fiction films.
From there, inspired the new paradigm 3iTM and original creations PubCompany, an Italian company has developed and put in 'gaming' two great products that stem from different concepts but a single purpose, to amuse.
The first product, Wii QubeTM revolutionizing reinvents the classic Tetris: thanks to an innovative concept from the control, you can manipulate in 3D blocks of the classic Tetris. In a way, you can even enter the game in first person, interacting with the blocks by means of movements of the body. It is not coincidence that PubCompany ® wanted to choose a classic like Tetris to create, starting from his mechanics, something totally new but familiar.
Then comes Wii RelaxTM, which includes two products l MindTM Relax and Relax BodyTM games that blend the control for the mental training to physical and mental relaxation, the movement of the body, providing a range of activities that contribute to physical and mental well being, thanks to 'implementation of techniques such as yoga, Thai Chi, Qi-Gong, progressive relaxation, mental visualization, massage, meditation techniques and breathing.
Really missed the experience for the mind control, with the player who has the ability to track, using their brain waves through earphones 3rd Mind ControllerTM included, your stress levels in real time, working to improve this threshold relaxing. In addition to 'training, the same 3rd Mind ControllerTM is used to play, either alone or in company, a game controlled by its own mental input which leads not to play more' strong or having the best reflexes, but using only the powers of the mind for actions of the game ..
Both products have been designed to target a completely transverse and heterogeneous. Description: Wii QubeTM - 3iTM is a game inspired by the classic game of Tetris, which we all love, thanks to the innovative game control that merges the wonderful mechanics of the game can push the players' inside 'the game!
Description: Wii RelaxTM (MindTM Relax and Relax BodyTM) are part of a new and exciting game 3iTM to mind control that combines both elements of 'entertainment and relaxation. "Mind" will teach you to relax your mental state while the "Body" will help you relax your body and relieve accumulated stress. Forget the lessons of yoga and massage expensive: You'll feel a real Zen experience in your living room at home.

exactly, this is like the first ganeration i noticed nintendo actually advertising (more so than any blue ocean this was the significant change in their strategy) and it's made a world of difference. even silly little tv spots like that fake child's voice going "new super mario brothers, touch the screen to eat mushrooms" have kept games in the charts for years after release (and still at full price).

And this whole celeb endorsement thing (which I hate).
I think that some companies have this old notion of game marketing, make it big, do it all at once, sink or swim. Instead you can happily bob along for a long time.

Screw you I like the celebrity endorsements. Anytime I get Liv Tyler on my TV it's a very good thing. Plus it makes imagining me and her playing Pokemon via wifi a lot easier.
Oh god I just watched the Wii Relax video. Thank god that's fake. Though with the ridiculous success of Wii Fit, I'd be shocked if Nintendo doesn't follow up Wii Fit with something similar (and I'd be all for a meditation application). With 14 million balance boards out there I think the whole development world is missing a huge opportunity to develop for it. The Balance Board is now owned by 2/3 the number of people who had a GameCube and it still hasn't been out for a year. As it stands there's like 5 games I think that offer real support for the board (not counting throw-away features like on Raving Rabbids).
Ooooh Wii Shop is down. We're getting something good! We're getting something good! Wonder if I have any points left or if I blew the last of them on Dracula's Curse.
