I'm also planning on picking up a DSi when they launch here in April. I'm going to pick up a black one though.
I mostly played Paper Mario on the VC last week and finished it this weekend. Quite an enjoyable and lengthy game. Played some more of the Halo Wars and Resident Evil 5 demos to prep me up for when I get the games. Tried the Afro Samurai demo and enjoyed it a fair amount. I have too many games on my plate right now so it might be something I buy or rent later on down the road.
Ahhh... A fully satiated Leo welcomes you to a new week of GG Weekly at the The VG Press!
Got my Gouken:

Playing my Dragon Quest V (after waiting for it for 17 years):
...Life is good!
(But I secretly still miss my Grandma! )
Well, don;t know about your grandma, but glad you are playing WQ5. Mine is still in transit. Did you play 4? And do you find the aussie localization notable? Did you go for th retro blue or the black DSI?

Wow, I'd almost forgotten how mind-numbingly boring the Oscars are.
Makes me glad that I don;t have TV right now. Though like 10 years ago, back when B-Crys hosted them I liked the ludicrous nature of teh Oscars presentation. Anyone who has been to Hollywood knows it is the least-noatbale enclave of LA there is, so it's chuckle-worty how it is portrayed through the cathode-ray tubes.

Grandma passed away last month and I feel guilty having fun and being happy at this particular moment...
...but ANYWAY...
I did play 4 and loved it, in its original NES form and on the DS! Don't know that much about the localization of DQ in Australia; If it's anything like the U.S. one, I'm sure it's great! As good as 4 was, 5 seems THAT much better! The story has a bit more drama and excitement in it from the start and the monsters in your party add AWESOME variety to the game! I also love the fact that you have a child (eventually) and he carries on your quest! VERY cool!
As for the DSi... Ummm... Yeah. I couldn't decide, so I am getting one of each...
So I heard this sound and followed it to the Ghost who wanted his magic lamp. I found it and went to my attic and he offered me a wish! I got a Watermelon table off him. But he offered to clear out cockroaches or weeds too.
This is Raven's pig woman, his whole town has jumped ship to mine. Tabby too.
Harry, the oldest resident is leaving. I'll really miss this guy, he's kinda grumpy but loveable.
London telephone box!
Errrrrr. He wants to gobble my giant sack?
This little git conned me out of Festivale candy.
It's festivale! Dress up in a cool costume, get candy, give bird candy, get gifts. There is special music and ticker tape flying all over the place!
I just finished downloading and watching the Lost Planet 2 video on XBLM. Fucking awesome stuff! It's quite the lengthy video as well clocking in at just over 450 MB. It looks like they have done quite a bit of work on this game already. Looking fantastic with new and different environments such as lush jungles. The game will also support online co-op play which is excellent news. Shows to have some huge-ass boss fights which will be a blast to take on with other players. I absolutely loved the first game so this one is a no-brainer.
Capcom have been absolutely tearing it up this gen and they are easily my favourite developer so far this gen.

I think they were better last-gen myself. But how could they not be when they had so many defections to Platinum Games. Its almost surprising their shit has been as good as it has been.
They've put out a lot of GOOD games this gen, but not really anything just AMAZING. Imo a bunch of B level games (including Lost Planet).
Lost Planet 2, the way the handled the reveal was perfect. looks incredible as well, amazing boss fight.
Capcom is doing great but they always do great. I agree with Edge, so far they were still better last gen. The created Devil May Cry which basically spawned a whole type of action game, made DMC3 which is still their best DMC game. RE4 IMO the best game Capcom has ever made (sorry SF fans). REmake a great sendoff to an old formula. Okami, one of the best games of the gen.

While I do think they are amongst the top of this generation I do agree with you. Capcom just seems amazing because well face it what other developers are really putting that much of an effort? Besides Valve, SEGA, EA, and if you'll give them a 9 month free pass Nintendo what other publishers have really brought in their full game to consoles this generation? Konami? They've only released Metal Gear Solid 4 and tons of DDR Games. Activision? Just whoring out Guitar Hero and releasing those license games. Square-Enix? Drowning in a pool of subpar new IP's and mediocre spinoffs. Rockstar? Grand Theft Auto IV and just an addition to the Midnight Club series.
Even the exceptions I gave most aren't that great. SEGA just publishes titles that range from B to AA budget. I mean Madworld and Sonic Black Knight look great but besides Yakuza 3 it's like an empty wasteland for blockbusters on consoles. Nintendo started off good but they just fumbled the ball after Mario Kart, and besides Super Mario Galaxy what other "Nintendo Quality" games have they released on the Wii? Valve is awesome, but they release one game per year. EA...well they've really stepped it up so I have nothing to say against them.
My point is that Capcom is great but it's not that they've stepped it up this generation but more so they've kept conistent to their title from the previous generations while all others have fallen. It's more so that everyone else has fumbled the ball that they just stand out. It's similar to the JRPG on current generation consoles. The 360 is the best, but it is in no way the beast people refer it to be, it's just that it stands out because the Wii and PS3's offerings are just weak.

The problem is that you are comparing the entire previous gen to up to the half-way point of this gen.

Also, podcast this week. Who's up for it?
As always, I'll need to keep everyone's trite levels up; can't have some sort of happy gaming lovefest.
