And another GAF guy has impressions:
"I finished this game recently, and I must say it's pretty awesome. I had it through my rental service, and took some 10+ hours with it. It's not the longest game or the most sophisticated, but it's a real experience. The cinematic narrative, the variety in missions and the constant progress through the game make it fun.
To give some perspective, I've recently rented Fable 2, Gears of War 2, Wario Land: Shake Dimension, Farcry 2, Condemned 2 and Dead Space. Out of these, Disaster was right up there with Dead Space as most memorable and fun experiences.
Oh, and it works on NTSC Wii with the old Freeloader "
That's just horrible. I have played all those and the SNES and gba games are laughable compared to the 3-D games. They are fast as hell and challenging to boot but very rewarding. Did you try all the cars? There is a large difference in handling between them, try picking a car with good stability or a slower vehicle with great handling. And you have to practice the tracks to know when to boost and when not to otherwise you boost yourself off the track.
Yeah, but Steel didn't complete RE4 yet and didn't play it till recentely. Plus he has a tiny sack so his opinion is null and void. I await the Dvader RE nut opinion. You know as a joke they should put in the Werehog from Sonic as a boss.
I got it for 18 pounds plus 2 pounds postage. So a bit more than that. But the Aussie dollar sucks thus why it seems like more.
No, the 3D F-Zero's are laughable compared to the godly SNES/GBA games.
To answer you question: yes, I tried all of the available cars, and spent about five hours total playing the game. I just can't seem to get a handle on the controls. The steering on the cars it far too twitchy; I barely move the analogue stick, and the car rams the walls or turns sideways slowing it down signifcantly. This isn't a new problem, though. I had the exact same problem with GX. I also find the "rollercoaster" tracks to be confusing.
Oh well, not every game is right for every person.
Ownage
Another stupid question: do you use the shoulder buttons to bank?
On GX have you tried making your own car? You can make a car with great traction that sticks the road.
P.S You never told me why you stopped playing Animal Crossing. Now Steel has the wii in his daughters bedroom and you have stopped playing I'm left with no one but Travo and his wife and we're never on at the same time
Yes, I've used the shoulder buttons to turn since the SNES original.
Yup, I tried nearly every car in that game, and I also built several cars. Unfortunately, none worked for me.
I stopped playing AC because I simply grew tired of it. It's waaay too similar to the DS game, and the various design problems annoy me. When/if I go back to playing AC, it'll probably be the DS version which I liked a lot better, and still own.
This is what I wanted to know, what are the design problems?
Yakuza 3
SteelAttack the pervert gets PWNED.
Is this a Fedor move?
Nintendo’s Mario Kart Wii was the biggest-selling game of 2008, according to the most recent Top Global Markets report.
Data from the report – sourced by compiling research from GfK Chart-Track, Media Create, and the NPD Group – shows that Nintendo’s Wii release of the flagship series amassed global sales of 8.94 million. Those sales only attribute the three biggest game retail markets across the globe, meaning that sales from other European, American, Asian or Australasian regions could dramatically affect the results list.
Driving Mario Kart’s success was its North American sales, which accounted for around 5 million units, while both Japan and the UK attributed 2 million unit sales each.
Beyond Mario Kart’s position at the top of the chart, Nintendo has enjoyed dominance in the top five, with Wii Fit holding second and Super Smash Bros Brawl sitting in fourth. Wii Fit took global unit sales of 8.31 million, of which 4.55 million came from North America while 2.15 million sales were made in Japan.
Smash Bros, however, picked up a relatively small 404,000 unit sales in the UK, while Japan picked up another 1.75 million sales. The US, however, carried global sales of Smash Bros to a total of 6.3 million.
In third was Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto, a title which was the UK’s second best-selling game (1.85m) and North America’s single best-selling game in 2008. Relatively slim sales in Japan, which sit at around 256,000, prevented the game from achieving on a global scale what it had done in the West.
Activision’s World At War was also hit by Japanese sales, in that the Treyarch title hasn’t been released over there. 1.43 million UK sales and 4.46 million US sales take the game to fifth.
Full list according to Chart Track, Media Create, and the NPD Group:
(US/JP/UK)
1. Mario Kart Wii - 8.94 million (5m/2m/1.94m)
2. Wii Fit: 8.31 - million (4.55m/2.15m/1.61m)
3. Grand Theft Auto IV - 7.29 million (5.18m/256k/1.85m)
4. Super Smash Bros Brawl - 6.32 million (4.17m/1.75m/404k)
5. Call of Duty: World at War - 5.89 million (4.46m/0/1.43m)
Animal tracks is certainly the worst offender, but there are several others that bug me.
I don't like the way Nintendo did the city at all, and it's a chore to visit. In my opinion, it has taken a lot of the fun away from having animals randomly showing up in your town. For instance, I played ACWW for nearly five months before I met Dr. Shrunk. It was cool playing a game for so long, and suddenly stumble across someone new like that. ACCF lost a lot of that when they put most of the random animal visitors in the city, thus allowing you to visit them anytime you wish.
Another issue I have is that the Gamecube verison had about the same sized town which allowed for 15 animals to live there, but ACCF we are only allows 10. This makes the town seem barren to me with too much open space. All you can do with it is plant trees or flowers. It's pointless to have a town 3 times bigger than ACWW, but then only allow for 2 additional animals to live there.
It's just way too similar to ACWW. I found that the game is so similar to the DS version, that I feel like I've played all of it before. This has led to boredom with the game rather quickly. There just isn't enough new things in the game to keep me playing.
There are other things that bother me, but I can't think of them at the moment.
I like the town. When a couple of my residents moved out, in the DS game I never saw them again, here I popped across a couple of them in the City like seeing an old friend again. I like it. I didn't know that you could have 15 animal friends in the GC game. I only played WW so this is an overall improvement to me. BTW your Loontown residents keep moving in. Now Tabby is here. Thanks!
Tabby is creepy.
Ba de ya, say do you remember?
Ba de ya, dancing in september,
Ba de ya, never was a cloudy daaaaaay!
Lol at those Yakuza screens. That guy sure looks like me, rubbing my private parts on unsuspecting girls in the street. *pelvic thrusts*
And yeah, that's an armbar. Iga is going to get a boner watching that.
I recently picked up a few titles for the VC. I grabbed Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Gradius II: Gofer No Yabou, Paper Mario, and Secret of Mana. I never did play Paper Mario but I loved The Thousand Year Door so this should be a real treat to play and Gradius II is an awesome grab because I love my shooters and this being a Turbo CD game gives it alot more to love. I didn't play much on the weekend though with the Super Bowl and all.
Shit, man. CastleVania 3 is way harder than I remember!
I've never played a Paper Mario game either. How's TTYD?
Maybe if that guy performed the move correctly. You are supposed to grab the arm. Tsk tsk. That reminds me I will have to update the MMA forum, Ryu has fought!
P.S. Castlevania 3 is freaking awesome.
TTYD was very good. It was really light-hearted and a generally easy-going RPG. I had a really enjoyable time with it and found it to be a nice break from the more hardcore RPGs.
Yeah some of these classic games have been really kicking my ass, mostly Ninja Gaiden though. I'm making my way through Castlevania III at a decent pace. For an hour and a half of playtime I'm currently at the hydra boss in the water level just after the ghost ship level. I think it's stage 5.
EDIT: Actually it's Stage 6.
