Even though I'm fairly confident that we will see the Switch sucessor by the end of next year, I went ahead and ordered a new Switch that should arrive tomorrow. I didn't get the Oled, which only seemed worth it in handheld mode. I can't justify paying extra for it when I dont really do handheld mode. Its the Mario edition switch so I get one free Mario game. I thought it would be cool for both kids to have a Switch for when we go abroad next month. Besides, I know my son and I will both want to play Zelda once its out.

The OLED is so much better than regular switch.

Cooler, better built, better speakers, screen, stronger stand, appropriately placed vents, bigger memory. It's flipped the way I play. I used to play 50/50 between TV and handheld. Now it's 85% handheld.

Played The Last Campfire over the weekend by the developers of Lost Winds.

It's an isometric adventure/puzzle game.

You wash up on an island of the.. dead?

And have to save the spirits of other Embers.

It's pretty decent given the insanely cheap price I got it for.

Downsides? No map, lots of Zelda 1 style connected screens. So a lot of backtracking to see how each screen is interconnected.

Also does this lone narrative voice actor. Like a teenage Welsh girl. Roki is similar, trying to evoke the atmosphere of being read a bedtime story by your elder sibling.

Problem is it really limits the variety and immersion you would hear with different voice actors for the characters in the game. So it can become monotonous.

You unlock this BOTW style magnatism power which is cool. So some puzzles are like Zelda shrines only from an isometric view.

I found one puzzle really hard, most others were okay for me. I'm not a puzzle fan so these were just about right.

I played a horrible losing streak of Splatoon 3.  It probably cost my my S rank.  I can't seem to win much anymore, but to be fair, I've really scaled back how much I've played since 3 weeks so I guess that was to be expected.

Godamn metal snake puzzles are frying my brain in The Last Campfire.

What's worse is theres no easy way to reset or quit the puzzle as you character can be halfway across the screen.i had to quit to the main menu.

Bought and tried Salt and Sanctuary.

The visuals blow my mind, they're so... dirty? Grungy?

And dark, with no brightness option.

The character creation screen looked something a twisted person had designed. The characters are so weird looking.

Bought, Retro City Rampage and Some Distant Memory, an adventure game.

Really loving my new Switch, even though its the same as what I've owned since 2017. Its a lityle bit of a pain to transfer my user and saves. I've got to figure how to transfer my daughters since hers doesn't seem to be under my account.

Iโ€™ve been continuing my journey through Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty this weekend. Very fun and satisfying combat. Not going to win any awards for graphics or story though. Also played a few rounds of Halo: Infinite multiplayer.

How is it compared to Nioh?

I played lots of VR from GT7 to tons of RE8, finished it last night, it's so much better in VR. Pistol Whip, amazing VR game. Also still messing with the RE4 demo and I played the Diablo 4 beta. So I was not a Diablo 3 fan, but enjoyed Diablo back in the day. I think they got the right formula for 4, it's got a bigger open world with loads of things to find, side quests to do. I like the graphical style more than 3. The combat is still Diablo but it seems there are many many many ways to customize your characters abilities. The dungeons I did were the usual mix of mindless attacking but the bosses actually required strategy so that was cool. I think it's going to be a big successful Diablo game.

I think newer switches have the longer battery. Around 10hrs.

Its blissful not having to incessantly charge.

I completed the Last Campfire, pretty good overall, just the right length, just brain taxing enough. Gets very Zelda-ish in the last third.

Started AI the Somnium files. Quite different tone from the demo lol.

Like a comedy Anime vibe, already talked about Tanuki ballsacks and staring at the bosses legs, in her miniskirt.

No anti aliasing though wtf?

It also seems to be one of those games that Mclassic doesn't do much for. Going to try handheld mode later.

I spent several hours yesterday evening watching 80s music videos like I used to when I was a teenager. So rad. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘

Still playing Atomic Heart, which has improved a lot now I'm out in the open world. It's not great, kinda like a very basic Stalker, but very basic Stalker is still Stalker enough to be fun.

Seriously? That's impressive. I think mine gets about 3-4 hours on Civ 6, but I only play it in handheld during my lunch hour at work, so it's not really an issue for me.

I keep looking at the Steam Deck, especially since it's on sale this week ($360 for the 64GB model). Seems like it's still a little too experimental, though.

I'd consider a Steam deck if the form Factor was different.

Seems a bit chunky. And the OLED screen seems indispensable now I have it.

Now most if not all the tvs are 4k, games do actually look better on the handheld screen.

Some games don't, when there's a power gulf and the handheld resolution drops. But the majority of games look smoother, crisper and more colourful in handheld. Especially games which don't rely on pushing 3d graphics hard.

I have so many indie games that have a defined art style where theres no real benefit to playing on a TV.
