I think it's rather naive to say creative media outlets create distorted realities when it most likely happens on both sides.

And no democracy is without fault. Here we can only choose politicians that come from our own half of the country, which is bound to increase polarisation. Furthermore parliament is evenly split between the two halves, despite two thirds of citizens living in one half. But of course that will never change, because half of the parliament would see its influence decreased.

There's really no both sides argument here, either in rhetorical content or audience size (at least on the internet). Online moderate right-wing media draws the line at the Richard Spencers of the world. Anyone with identical goals smart enough not to call themselves Neo-Nazis or white nationalists are welcome. Online moderate left-wing media draws the line at Bernie Sanders: in a comical reversal of right-wing rhetorical strategy, you can call yourself a socialist or even a communist; you just can't have socialist or communist goals.

And here's a contrast between two of the biggest figures in extreme but acceptable sphere, for example: Tim Pool's political commentary is about getting ready for the upcoming race-based civil war, ContraPoints' is about whether she's a lesbian or not and the importance of voting for Biden lol.

I've seen prominent "anarchists" advocating for voting for Biden on the basis of Marxist-Leninist theory FFS. (Irrelevent, but hilarious.)

That's a massive oversimplification, but eh, close enough.

What you'd expect is there to be a spectrum of bias, where the perspective given is skewed a bit one way or another by the outlet you're viewing. That's true of real media outlets. That's not true of the conservative media, which is why I called it propaganda. I say that not to be disparaging, but to be accurate.

Mainstreams news outlets, whether the personalities have personal biases towards Democrats or not, present the news in a largely non-partisan manner. Bias always exists, but they act in general good faith to provide accurate reporting.

Conservative news outlets operate as an arm of the Republican party. There is no liberal equivalent, and I doubt there could be. Liberal voters don't actually respond to the same tactics. Conservatives share vastly more fake news and actually have different brain structures that make them respond more to fear.

It's hard to summarize, so I think the simplest thing you need to know is that Ben Shapiro is a major voice in modern conservatism and is constantly near the top of most shared on Facebook.

Here is an hour of highlighting his complete operation in bad faith.

It's also a sad state of affairs that satire has been some of the best source of good information in American media, but it is. Here's also 10 minutes of Fox News being ridiculous care of The Daily Show. Keep in mind, they're always this ridiculous, and there are online outlets dominating Facebook that are even worse.

Now, The Young Turks would be what I consider a bad example for the left, but they're the exception that proves the rule. Everyone in the conservative media ecosystem is like Ben Shapiro. Places like The Hill are like the Washington Post when compared to places like Breitbart.

In defence of Ben Shapiro, he did rap WAP and announce that his wife does not lubricate during sexual intercourse with him. So clearly he's not entirely dishonest. In fact, sometimes he's far too honest.

And to add in the satire, here's a fantastic example of Fox News dishonesty for the purpose of generating faux outrage from 10 years ago. And Fox has been like this for longer.

I should also mention the documentary, The Brainwashing of My Dad that goes through the journey of the creator's dad from liberal, to going down the Fox News rabbit hole, and then back out.

You don't need to report fake news or be a mouthpiece for propaganda to paint a skewed picture, all it takes is cherry picking what to report and what not to.

I'm not debating the right not being louder and more stupid, US 'left' news outlets just don't strike me as neutral either.

I'm just hoping it doesn't become as bad here in Europe as you guys have it, but I'm not too optimistic about it.  If anything I hope Trump failing to get a second term will be the start of a worldwide trend away from nationalistic politics.

It's that it's not about neutrality. There are normal news outlets that have a range of biases. Then there's a conservative propaganda network that peddles misinformation, lies and hate to varying degrees that has no leftist analog.

Take Fox for example talking about counting illegal votes.  No other news source is talking about that because it's virtually non existent. What they are claiming are illegal votes are actually mail in votes that are waiting to be counted.  Maybe if legislators had allowed states to count ahead of time, this could have been called late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

What a day, what an amazing day. Celebrations all over the country, rejection of hate, of bigotry, of division, and a celebration of unity and democracy for all no matter race, sexual orientation, nationality. It's beautiful to see. The nightmare is almost over, this shit head will of course make a scene like the baby he is but at least it's over. Of course it shouldn't have been that close, there is a huge problem with half of America consuming lies and conspiracy theories as truth, it's the scariest part of our future and how social media plays a role in how information spreads.

I see some discussion on left and right media, I have had this discussion with so many people in my life, I am surrounded by the worst of the brain washing, people you can't reason with, people that have no clue what reality is and it ALL comes from right wing media. To even compare the two is ridiculous. Yoda explained it well above, they do not operate with the same respect for truth. Also know that talking head shows and the reporting branch of many of these channels are not the same thing. While channels like CNN will have hours of anti trump programming the reporting side is not making up stories, they have proper fact based reporting.

Anyway it finally feels good to be American again. Now we have to wait two months for Biden to come in with a Covid plan. I fear what will happen in those two months as the virus spreads unchecked while we have zero leadership.

I agree with you guys, but it's not a contest. No matter how wrong the right's reporting may be, that doesn't in any way vindicate the rest of mainstream media.

Far right coverage is leaning heavily on fear and half truths everywhere, it's just that in the US the far right seems to be the dominant conservative current.

One thing I found weird about the U. S news channels is having one guy giving a long opinion filled monologue directly to the camera. It's not legal here to do that and all the reporters have to present news in a non-biased way. They can of course bring on commentators with different views and grill them.

So getting back to video games for a minute, I'm still quite busy and engrossed with Days Gone. The zombies or 'freakers' are super interesting. They act more like wolves or swarming insects. One or two isn't a problem to fight. Three or four can get tricky and requires a lot of dodging or a super strong melee weapon. If more than four are coming at you, you're probably in trouble if you're not near your bike or some very advantageous landscape.

Tried the Ori demo again but deleted it again after 10 minutes. I can't stand having restricted control of a character, walk a few steps, cutscene takes over, repeat. It drives me mad.

Haven’t played too much this weekend myself. Played some Animal Crossing: New Horizons of course. Also tried the Dragon Quest XI S Definitive Edition on the Xbox One. I’m probably going to end up buying this version of the game as well. 😅

Gentleman, if I may ask a favor. From now through The end of the month, if anyone sees any good deals or interesting bundles regarding a Switch or a Switch Lite please be a pal and share them for me. It's starting to look like Black Friday and Cyber Monday or just going to be a month-long thing. So if I can squeeze a little extra value out of my purchase this way I would be interested in that.
