What little I’ve played of Other M didn’t really seem all that bad to me. I’ve been thinking about going back to it and playing through the whole game. Perhaps one day.
A big improvement on my first draft. What about Turkey Day? Is that just Turkey Day?
Turkey Day is entirely accurate and acceptible. You can add more to it like "Turkey and football day" or "Turkey and arguing with the family day" but it's mostly understood.
I got to give credit to Concerned Ape, ChuckleFish or whoever the hell is handling the Stardew Valley at this stage of its development. The game has been out for over 3 years and significant content is still being added. What was started as a blatent Harvest Moon ripoff..... is still a blatant Harvest Moon ripoff, but it's fair to say its surpassed the source material in everything but graphics (and originality). And in all this time, it's not unreasonable to say that Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon would have cranked out 2 or 3 installments and none of them would have been nearly as good. Best of all it's been rewarded. I just looked it up and the game has sold nearly 4 million copies across all platforms. Totally deserved. I probably need to get back and check the game out at some point since I haven't touched it in over a year.
One of my favorite things about the end of a decade are these types of lists. If I'm not mistaken 10 years ago a bunch of us actually made our own too. I considered doing one, but honestly I haven't touched many games that came out in the past few years (I've literally played one game that released in 2019) so I can't really say it'd be much of a list. That said I'm happy to comment on the lists of others starting with this one. So here's a few thoughts (and yes there will be spoilers but I'm sure you can handle it):
City Skylines - Yeah I've been meaning to play this for years now. One of these days...
Pokemon Let's Go - Really? Even as a high entry I don't buy into that shit for a second.
Pokemon Go - Can't argue this one. It may have been a fad (then again people still play it a lot so maybe not), but it was a huge fad. Fuck, it got everyone to go outside in Florida in the middle of summer. That's pretty impressive.
Shadow of the Collosus Remastered - Again, really? I know the original is a great game but there wasn't anything else in the past decade that deserved a spot more than a remaster? Maybe the 2010's were a shitty time for gaming after all and I didn't miss much.
Disco Elysium - I've never even heard of this. I have no idea what the title even means. I don't think I know what the world Elysium means either...
Final Fantasy - I thought everyone and there mother hated this.
Bloodborne - God that was fun.... god I sucked at it.
Persona 4 Golden - Another remake from the previous decade? Well at least there's new content in this one. And how has Atlus not ported this? It was on the Vita for fuck's sake. I'm just saying there's a lot of money left on the table.
Ultra Street Fighter 4 - Another game from the previous decade. I'm starting to think the author is more or less like me and doesn't play anything new.
Stardew Valley - At number 17 for the entire decade? Shit, maybe I am the author and I wrote it while I was drunk. That would explain why my good whiskey ran out so quickly last month.
Dark Souls 3 - Nope. Definitely not my list.
Dishonored 2 - This is in the top 10? I don't think I know anyone who really raved about this.
Fallout 4 & Fallout New Vegas - There were two Fallout games in the top 10 and I can't figure out how to juggle through the game's menus. Maybe I should stick with crossword puzzles.
Skyrim - Jesus another menu game....
Witcher 3 - Game of the decade. I'll agree even if I haven't played it. I keep telling myself I'll get it when it's cheaper. $14..... right now, but I'll wait for $10.
Best. Metroid game. Ever.
Ok you got me. I only played a bit of it. I was just trolling.
Full disclosure, I loved Other M and completed it 100%. I just prefer the other Metroids.
Nice. Unfortunately for me, looks like they don't ship to Australia. On the bright side, EB Games still has them. For $90.

The best video games of the decade – the top 50
