These new systems really depend more on the situation they're being used for.
I could see someone thinking each of them is the best, or worst, system that each company has made.

If you don't game on PC or just very little and are mostly a console gamer, your view of the systems will be much more positive.
If you are judging each system only on exclusively, your view will be totally different than someone else.

For example, in my situation even though I have a great PC, I still get most stuff on the consoles if its not too different.
And since I have all 3 consoles, I am using the PS4 as this generations Xbox 360 because to me its the best hardware out of all three, I like the controller more, as well as the interface.

So I already have tons of great games on it. Probably twice the library I have for Wii U. But of course most of my Wii U stuff is exclusive, whereas PS4 is mostly multiplat.

Xbox One is my least favorite and least used, because it has limited exclusively and I'm getting multiplats elsewhere.
But, if I didn't have a PS4 or PC? My view of Xbone wouldn't be much different than what it is for PS4 right now.

Small team games (what others call indy) to the rescue. It's the coronation of the AAA elite, there will be about 6 AAA games a year and they will sell like hot cakes.  They will all be good, safe, highly produced games, enjoyable and very mediocre games.  Then for everything else we'll have Nintendo, small team games released on every platform and PC.

Amen to that.

Personally I think GameCube should have gotten the Wii's sales, Wii U should have gotten GameCube sales, & Wii should have gotten Wii U's sales. But that's just me.

Very true. If I did not have PC, I'd be very happy with all the small team games that Sony is publishing (like Atrium Verge or whatever it is called). And you have Bloodborne as well, if you are into that sort of game.

In terms of actual hardware, I am sure that the PS4 and XBO are the best of their manufacturers work to date. I'm talking about the old way we buy games, and how that is kinda winding up.

I don't like the Xbox One menu interface at all, & I still prefer the 360 controller. Hardware wise, it doesn't seem much better than Wii U to me.

Playing the DLC levels on MK8 for the first time.  There is one which reminded me of a game we used to play on my friend's Mega Drive called Micro Machines.  I used to love that game though it was probably not very good.  I liked anything back then.

No, your memories are correct, it was a well loved game, as was RC-Pro Am on the NES and Gameboy:

Micro Machines and RC Pro-Am were amazing!

RC Prom-Am was one of my favourite games on my Gameboy.  I played it to death and until recently I still had the cartridge lying around somewhere.  See! ...  I was a fan of RARE before I knew who they were!  WinkWink

I pulled a muscle/nerve in my shoulderblade on Wednesday which meant that even standing up caused me severe pain.  Which meant I had to force myself to have a sedentary long weekend watching TV/surfing online/playing games.  Sadly I'm not much better.  The shoulder is still painful - albeit less so - but now I have a numbness in my entire left arm and I also picked up an eye infection.  Life is great!

Sadly I do think this console generation will be the worst one yet overall.  Every major game this generation will most probably be very mainstream and play it very safe.  And there will be far fewer of them because it's harder to take risks.

I was thinking just yesterday how boring this gen seemed so far. There just seems to be far less to talk about, far fewer games taking longer and longer to make. Lots of safe stuff, lots of sequels, new IPs that play like old IPs. I just can't muster that much enthusiasm for much.

Watching this Yooka Laylee vid at IGN, two things struck me.

  1. The characters are actually cooler in motion...maybe they ain't so bad after all.
  2. For anyone who doesn't think Microsoft ruined Rare, listen to what they say around the 2 minute 30 second mark.

I don't know if this is funny or sad, but after watching the Yooka Laylee footage it dawned on me that this is much more exciting to me than any new console IP Nintendo has done in a long time. I mean to me it looks so much cooler than Splatoon its crazy.

I agree. I don't see the appeal of Splatoon at all.

Though I'm not much more excited for that Banjo rip-off either...

The Download size is relatively small too. Something like 2.75 gigs, if I remember correctly!
