If last generation is anything to go by, the PS4 era could end up being 8 years long. That's enough time for the Wii U to become profitable for Nintendo even if it doesn't light the world on fire through killer 1st party games. On the other hand, its also enough time for Nintendo to release a stronger console than the competition years before they are ready to move on, if they choose to go that way.

I still think the Wii U just needs more games. Its not the most powerful machine, but its powerful enough to produce beautiful games. It has everything a console needs to be great. It just needs AAA games to make the wait for a more reasonable price point sting less. It could definitely use a really hyped up AAA "one of the best games ever made" kind of games though, something like Metroid Prime was in 2002. That is something is just doesn't have. The Gamecube also had the hype of having the Resident Evil series....Wii U has no such AAA 3rd-party franchise.

But as I said, if Nintendo wanted to cut out 3 or 4 years from now, which would be close to a normal cycle anyway---they could replace the U with a console that beats the competition 3 or 4 years before they are ready to move on. Its an interesting spot to be in.

I think they'll stick with it for another 3 years.  Everything in this business is so fluid right now it is hard to see where we will be in 2 years, let alone beyond that.  They will at laeast wait to see how the PS4 and XB3 does.

I'm still in the US.  I'll be home in just over two weeks if I survive them and if I make it through all three flights.  I haven't bought any games here.  I've been very good with my spending but I find the cost of living much higher than even two years ago.  I'm tempted to get Killer is Dead and the Booby Game but I would do much better getting a DS game so I can play on the plane and in airports etc ... but I have the 5 songs of ice and fire on the kindle (and only got through the first one so far) which are keeping me fairly entertained.

Pikmin 3, Animal Crossing, Mario and Luigi 4 (and maybe a couple more I'm forgeting) should be waiting for me at home when I return.  They better be.  What have you been playing besides Animal Crossing?  How's your mother, has she recovered fully?  Is she still enjoying Animal Crossing and her 3DS?

Oh cool!!  Maybe we can play together online.  I can't wait to play as the brave manly dwarf!
