I guess I am not going to try out Pikmin 3 at GS. They are doing the same stupid 1-4pm crap and the only GS in Miami is in Hialeah, and there is no way in hell I am going to Hialeah for this.
Look at all that sexiness! NES looks like a boring old grey kitchen appliance, but the SMS looked sleek and futuristic! I had both versions. I bought the original (bigger) SMS first, and much later bought the SMS II because it had Alex Kidd in Miracle World built-in; I couldn't find that game in cart form, so I bought a 2nd system just to play it. It was heavily marked down at Toy's R Us for a measly $20, so it was worth it. Thinking back, I should kick myself for selling all of my SMS stuff.
Oh, well.
This was the original SMS exactly like the one I bought it in 1990
Back of that box:
The SMS was marketed by Tonka (a toy manufacturer) in North America, not Sega. This is probably why most people here never knew it existed.
If we were talking Genesis and SNES then I would be with you raven.
This would work so much better as a thread.
Baseball umpire! Think I was thirteen.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobileDone!
Damn, those SMS controllers sure are ugly.
...
Yeah, they were ugly, but I'll never admit it,

Right now, it's hard to say. Having two-screens to work with, most developers are finding it more complicated and costly to develop games for, so there's next to nothing, Third Party, to play.
It's relying on First Party stuff more to carry it (like the Gamecube) so it's all on Nintendo, and they're not doing a great job either. Nintendo Land is fun and has somewhat of a nostalgia factor, but it has a few games you need more than one person to play. New Super Mario Wii U doesn't quite have the charm of the old 8 and 16-bit stuff, but it shows a little more promise later in the game. It's nice to finally see an HD Mario game, at least.
If you're a HUGE fan of Monster Hunter, and you have others to play with online, THAT may be worth it to you, if you have the time to devote to an MMO kind of thing.
Virtual Console-wise it's mostly lacking, but they just released Earthbound for the first time since the SNES on it a few days ago.
Biggest draw for the VC games (and the normal games that support it) is off screen play. If your kids (or the wife) wants to watch TV and you want to play at the same time, you can. The GamePad has a fairly high resolution screen that plays games without the use of the TV very nicely.
One of the best things about the U has nothing to do with games. The Mii-Verse is Nintendo's answer to an online Forum or Social Media type of thing. There's various rooms based on Games themselves, The "Year of Luigi" and other themes, where you can go and post screen-shots, ask questions, post opinions, etc. Nintendo does pay attention to these posts (for better or worse)... They'll moderate quickly if you post anything in the slightest way offensive --BUT-- they'll also keep their finger on the pulse of public opinion through it too, so that's kind of unique and interesting to the U.
Pikmin 3 is coming out August 4th and Nintendo is positioning it to be the revitalization of the U. Lego City Undercover is a GREAT game that both you and your son would probably appreciate (the humor especially, but post game play will last a looooong time)! Both depend on if you're a fan of that style of game though. Pikmin looks like the best version of Pikmin... but it's Pikmin... Lego is the best version of the Lego games yet and is done extremely well, but don't expect challenge, it's just an amazing value and A LOT of fun!
Future games are looking good too: Bayonetta 2 WILL kick-ass. Donkey Kong will be an amazing 2D platformer. Super Mario 3D World has disappointed a lot of people (by not being Galaxy), but hands-on gameplay previews have been extremely positive, nonetheless! Mario comes this year, Donkey and B2, next.
There's a lot to consider. It's a great system, just don't expect it to be your MAIN system, and expect the Nintendo stuff to be the best (and unfortunately sparse), but Nintendo nostalgia has sold all of their past systems, so... It all depends on how you feel about THAT.
Lemme know what you decide!
^ Married friend I used to work with and haven't spokne to in a while asked my opinion of the U. That's how I answered. Fair?
I was such a diehard Nintendo fanboy back in the day. I used to get so pissed when a Sega commercial came on and shook my head. I remember uttering the words " those filthy liars" when they trash talked Nintendo.
Those were the days!
Oh, you were one of those people. Just remember, Travo, Sega does what Nintendon't!
Didn't need Sega. I was playing with power. Nintendo Power!
Power? Heh, only Sega has Blast Processing, Travo!
I remember these attitudes well. The concept of owning two consoles was so completely alien that you had to pick one. There was no room for 2! How do you own 2? You pick one and trash the other!

Finally took a look at these screens. Looks like Sega is playing it safer than I thought they would by doing a Casino level again. Probably not a bad thing, since those levels usually end up being a lot of fun. So far I'm a little disappointed that they haven't shown us anything new in the way of game setting though. The first levels were pretty reminescent of Green Hill, and now... well we have the Casino ago. I guess next is a very industrialized zone.
ONM review scores – August 2013
This month’s Official Nintendo Magazine review scores are as follows:
Well, I couldn't afford two. If I didn't receive my console for Christmas, then I wouldn't get one. Fuck Sega and their Mortal Kombat with blood!
