I couldn't afford two either. The first time I had two consoles was in the 16 bit era and even then I didn't own them at the same time. I bought a SNES with birthday money and money I saved from mowing lawns when I was 15. About a year later I traded it in, along with the 4 games I owned to get a Sega Genesis simply because X-Men was coming out for it. Once I realized the Genesis wasn't as good (i.e. 6 months later) I traded it back for a SNES and started my collection again from scratch.
The point is, even then the concept of two console ownership was just over my head. It didn't seem natural. It wasn't until I had the PS1 and N64 that I finally had 2 at the same time.
I bought my Sega Genesis November 1991, and I bought my SNES March of 1992 thanks to full-time employment and a nice fat tax return. I owned both at the same time, and they went together like peanut butter and chocolate. Owning three 16-bit consoles seemed like too much to me, so I never did get a TG-16, but I sooo wanted one! Thinking back, I was never a fanboy. I liked all consoles, even the ones I could not afford. When I had an Atari 2600 and an SMS,I never said Nintendo sucked. I wanted a NES, but it wasn't financially feasible, so I played Super Mario at friend's houses or the arcades.
Pretty accurate and pretty fair. The only other thing that may have been worth mentioning are the Wonderful 101 and the definitive Rayman Legends which both show up in the next couple months.
I had both systems; All the neighborhood kids hung out at my house because we had both an SNES and Genesis everybody else in the neighborhood had one or the other.

That is pretty cool.
Yeah no one could afford two. I was Genesis all the way. MK with blood was like having MJ on your team, it won almost every argument. SEGA!
When someone asks me about the Wii U I say I regret buying one at launch, it has very little to play and its basically just going to be a Nintendo game playing machine.
Whenever anyone tried to use that arguement I'd remind them that the Genesis default controler only had 3 buttons.
I didn't think Nintendo had lent so much to Atlus. I tell you what, if Nintendo is serious about wanting to dominate Japanese sales picking up Atlus would be the slam dunk to do it.
The reply: "Lol that was a thesis thanks. I will probably buy it around Christmas when the price drops because of the new Xbox etc. you'd be proud the 9 year old is hooked on golden sun, advance wars, civilization, age of empires, Pokemon, kingdom hearts, etc."
I had two at the same time; So I got to experience most of the games.
I don't really remember much of the Genesis; Mainly Mortal Kombat Trilogy and Sonic the Hedgehog 1 - 3; I spent most of my time playing SNES.
SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:
The cool kids had the 6 button controller and it was shaped just like a SF arcade layout, We win again.
He's rasing a little Napolean who will bread pocket monsters to rule the kingdom.
I had that controller I also had the 3 button controller aswell.

That argument died when MK2 was released. The SNES version was clearly superior and it had blood! But in reality, there was no ground for any arguments what so ever. The Genesis had Sonic so it lost by default.
Blast processing something something!
Mode 7, baby!
