I'm playing Yoshi (this month's $.30 classic) and just finished Mega Man X. I can't quite convince myself to start anything that's been released in the past few months.... or years. Rogue Galaxy turned out to be more a less a bust and that's what I'd been planning to play for the next month or so. I think I'll be taking a little time off from gaming for a while, and maybe just stick with arguing with people on the Miiverse for a while.
Level-5 Teasing Some New Layton Thing
Well now this is interesting. I thought Level-5 was supposed to be wrapping up the Layton series, but a new style of Layton game would be much preferrable to just retiring him. The Layton formula has certainly gotten old, but I've enjoyed the characters.
On that note, did they ever confirm the Layton vs. Wright crossover game for a western release?
I have bought and played all of them, but they almost never hold my interest that long. This one is good though... very, very, very good! I literally spent about 2.5 hours on trains and subways yesterday, all the while catching bugs for the Contest yesterday, loving every minute of it! I've had A LOT on my mind lately, and New Leaf is just about the MOST relaxing, time consuming, obsessive-compulsively satisfying game you could play!
**I traded some Play Coins that I earned yesterday for a Fortune Cookie, which had a Lucky Ticket inside; IT netted me a Blue Pikmin hat! Can't wait to uncover ALL the Nintendo items in the game!**
This past week I put in some major hours into Skyrim (15 hours) and major hours into The Last of Us (8hours). I've also been my son's wingman, of sorts, in Super Mario 3D Land.
My favorite line this week, when my son stomps a Goomba and picks up some coins: "Oooh, he was made of gold!"
I'm taking a wait and see approach with Animal Crossing. The DS and Wii versions were similar and didn't change the gameplay up enough for me.
The gameplay is fundamentally the same --BUT-- you are now the Mayor. Tortimer has retired to a tropical island (which you can visit). Being the mayor, you decide where to place your house. There are several house styles you can build now, and there's mixing and matching of doors, fences, roofs, etc. You start Public Work projects like building bridges that cost upwards of 180,000 bells (there's several others like statues and camp sites, etc.). You also start City Ordinances where you have your citizens focus on making your Town Beautiful or Wealthy, among other things. Things open up more slowly to you this time. I don't have K.K.'s coffee shop yet; I'm hoping my Ordinance to make the town more Wealthy opens a greater selection in the stores and brings out the shop. There's TONS of collectibles this time and an ABUNDANCE of Nintendo memorabilia. Little touches like the quick select Equipment, stock piling of itmes in your inventory, and the difference in size of your Animal citizens... it's the ultimate version of the game yet!
E3 Exposed the Strains of Nintendo's Development Workload
I was discussing this with a friend this week, and I will probably concede that this is the first valid arguement that Nintendo may need to go 3rd party on the console front. It shouldn't have been a surprise to Nintendo that HD game development takes more resources. That should have been a lesson learned from what every dev on the PS3 and 360 went through over. They should have been prepared. And now virtually every game they've had in development has been delayed. They're now in a position where either they have to ramp up the development teams or they won't be able to support a handheld and a console. One of the two is going to take a big hit.
I'll say a few more things about AC, then I'll call it a night: I already have my Triforce flag that I designed, flying above my office and the Town Tune has been changed to the beginning of the Zelda overworld theme! For those who were asking, GRASS DEFINITELY --DOES-- wear away from higher traffic areas. I didn't even know you COULD plant grass or fix it in the other games, so it didn't bother me then. Seeing it now though... big brown patches of dirt where grass used to be...
Finished Uncharted 1. Started Uncharted 2.
But more importantly:
Whatever cannibalism was occuring here, I had nothing to do with. Nor even witnessed.
This really makes me want to get it.
But why couldn't Nintendo just leave out that stupid grass wear?
Stupid Nintendo. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY wants or likes fucking grass wearing out in Animal Crossing. How fucking asinine can you be?
I think I recall putting grass wallpaper down on the ground to cover the dirt.
It's ridiculous because even that wasn't really made at the proper resolution, so it always ended up looking shitty. So of course you ended up jumping through idiotic hoops to keep your grass or snow safe from vanishing away into ugly patches of fucking dirt. I mean, come the fuck on. What was the need for that? What was the reasoning behind the taking of that decision during development time? What's even worse, what on earth made the dev team MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE ONCE MORE?
Yeah, it makes no sense to have grass wear in the first place. It does nothing but make our towns look like crap.
I'll tell you what it was. It was MIND HERPES. That's right folks, you heard it from a medical professional. Animal Crossing dev team has MIND HERPES.
GG has been extremely quiet about AC lately. Hasn't it seen a release in the UK?
It came out on June 14th in the EU. Maybe he hasn't recieved his copy yet.
iOS?
Skyrim eh? That came from no-where.
