File this under "What the hell were they thinking?"
It got a pretty good following over time. With it being a Zelda clone and a U launch title I think it should build up a solid Nintendo user fanbase instantly. It was not the sales success that THQ wanted, but they are not the best at projections.
Lasy Aspro is STILL playing it. At this point, I am so bored with seeing her play it all the time I think I'm going to push it out a fair way until I give it a try.
That review eviscerated the game, though seemed fair. A good read.
I'm stil not convinced. All the previews say that it's stepped away from a lot of the Zelda influence and going a little more of an RPG route with skill trees as opposed to finding new weapons and accessories to advance through the story. Then again, that could just be the gaming press going out of their way to make it seem different and ultimately complain about it in the review. Still I'm not convinced there's going to be a huge audience for it. A good chunk of it's million sales came after it dropped to hobo pricing. Not sure if it could hit the high sales numbers without a price discount.
Then again maybe I just still have a vendetta against the game because I still want Joe "King of the Fucking Assfucks" Madureira to have a painful accident that leaves him sterile and mostly impotent.
There is no hands on ORC impressions in the last podcast, I am just accounting what others say.
I finished the campaign of ORC. The second to last mission was actually not bad, I was blown away. I felt like that level was done by a different team, a team that understood good level design and pacing. There was a good flow to the level. It was almost all BOWs so no stupid other army team in the way. Action moments were well designed like an elevator ride that comes under attack. Also it has a decent boss battle and this all took place in the RE2 lab, so pretty cool.
Then came the last level and it was back to shit. Giant open areas with random monsters thrown in everywhere. Oh and for good fun snipers in spots you can hardly see but of course they have perfect accuracy and hit you from anywhere. It is a complete mess, a trial of frustration. Then comes the end when you get to kill Leon, this blew my mind. So you battle Leon and finally you hit him enough to capture him. A cutscene starts where Leon is hurt on the floor and your team surrounds him. Inexplicably Claire and Sherry pop up on the roof above you and look down and say "No Leon!". Instead of some firefight (cause you are supposed to kill them and get Sherry) everyone has a civil conversation. Your guys say "surrender or we kill Leon', Claire agrees, then Leon then asks you why you are doing this, why help Umbrella. Now I choice pops up on the screen to either kill Leon or save him. I choose to kill Leon. Fade to black...
Now there is an overview of some indoor factory, a message on the screen says "Prepare for the final battle, kill Leon and all traitors". You spawn in this random factory I have never seen before with one of your teamates. For NO REASON what so ever now your other two teamates are trying to kill you. There is zero transition, why is Leon now loose? Why are we in this place? Why is my team split in two? WTF!!!!!
So you simply run around the area and fight your teamates while a few zombies get in the way. Leon stays in the back of the area behind some crates. He has a handgun, he can shoot that handgun with perfect accuracy across the entire area. I have a sniper rifle and I pump him with bullets, like 20 headshots for him to go down. Amazingly Leon can still hit you while he is behind cover and not aiming at you, its garbage. So you kill Leon and then Claire and Sherry show up, you say sorry to Claire but you have orders to kill her and it fades to black as you hear your gun fire. The end.
Maybe multiplayer can save me. I decide to try the standard team deathmatch. In this mode you get points for everything you kill, so killing zombies and BOWs gets points as well as killing the other team. Obviously the tougher the enemy the more points. First match goes by ok, its kind of a free for all as you just shoot everything that moves. Skills can come into play so there is some potential. On the second match there was some lag, everyone from my team left so I was all alone, I then quit. Next match went well enough though the amount of times you get stuck in an endless animation loop is crazy, someone hits you with a grenade launcher and you are knocked down, as you get up they can do all sorts of things to keep you in animation so you cant do anything. The next match had some bad lag. Slowly the match was getting worse, I couldnt use my grenades anymore. Then I flew through the floor into glitch hell, then it respawned my entire team and our score was reset and finally the game just frooze, I had to turn off the 360. And it stayed off.
Edit: HAD to add this. From Destructoid's Review of Silent Hill HD Collection:
______________
"Konami has long had a habit of mishandling its properties, buts the inability to treat even these classics on the Silent Hill HD Collection with a modicum of respect is staggering. The disc feels like a rushed and sloppy cash-in, squirted out to exploit fans who have stuck with the series through years of drivel. It does a disservice to two amazing pieces of interactive art and spits on the legacy of what once was the crown jewel of an entire genre.
Incomplete, glitchy, and visually degraded, Silent Hill HD Collection is Konami's greatest insult to the series."
______________
**Seriously, what the fuck is going on these days?!**
Man I'm glad I didn't buy ORC.
Dvader you need to stop wasting your time playing that shit and dive into Lost Odyssey.
Vader, did you get Kid Icarus?
I have a lot to play before getting into that.
Going to get it now.
It blows my mind that anyone could even fuck up a re-release of old games enhanced to HD. How do you fuck this up?
Oh! Nice! Enjoy!
I'd heard that Konami is financially not having the best of times these days. I wonder if this is a symptom of that.
That's great news GG!
Yet still gave it a 2/5. FFS.
Pretty sad to see a once great franchise go down to this...Temco is pretty much just a shell of it's former self.
Not sure what to play now that I have finished Mass Effect 2. The best course of action in the past has to play a gmae for which I have very low expectations.
I certainly don't want to jump into Arkham City, it would be a bit jarring after Mass Effect 1 and 2 back to back. Playing ME3 would be the logical choice, but I've not yet decided on how to get my 360 games into the country.
... I'll come up with something, maybe on the original XB or PS2. Suggestions?
The Bible Game.
No. I tried that, it's a party game. The world most broken party game (after Sonic Shuffle and Hail to the Chimp).
A party bible game? Sounds amazing
