Ok cool.

I was actually entertaining the idea of importing Pikmin 2 on Wii too....but I may just grab the Cube version again. That game was amazing....can't believe they have yet to do another.

I was going to get that, but then they announced Pikmin 3.

Yeah I definitely like the current model PSP more then the new cheaper one. I'm thinking that if I want to get a PSP I'd best get one real soon.

This is from the EDGE mag Xenoblade review, it explains the battle system better than I did.

To attack, you simply need to position that character close enough to an enemy to strike, which it will do automatically. Your inputs, then, are almost entirely limited to deciding which special attacks to execute and when. These ‘arts’ can be used at any time, but have a cooling-off period before they can be reused, and knowing when to trigger offensive, defensive and healing arts, or more general buffs and de-buffs, is the strategic key to success.

A party gauge fills slowly as you work together, allowing you to issue chain-link commands when filled, stopping time and queuing arts from each character. Meanwhile, Shulk’s sword imbues him with the power to see into the future, and occasionally the flow of battle will be interrupted to show you a special move your opponent is due to make soon, allowing you a few moments to prepare a counter or pre-emptive healing spell.

Battles take place in the main environment, where enemies can be clearly seen and avoided if necessary. Happily, many creatures in the world won’t bother you if they aren’t of a hostile disposition, or if your team is too strong for them, and so, in contrast to many other JRPGs, there’s an ecosystem at work here, and Bionis is a pleasant, diverse place to roam as a result.

Let's see what the Gamescon RE Revelations demo was like, the snow level.

Gamepro said:

The demo I had the chance to play today focused on Chris, accompanied by partner character Jessica, and the exploration of a snowy mountainscape. This aptly demonstrated the game's episodic structure -- Capcom's trying to give it the feel of a TV show, where individual episodes are standalone storylines complete with cliffhangers, but the entire experience spins a coherent narrative. The various episodes take place in diverse locations around the world, not just the "ghost ship" setting that has been previously discussed.

Chris can either fire his weapon from first person (though is rooted to the spot while he does so) or hit the X button to do a quick melee attack. The wolves were quite difficult to hit from the first person view as they moved very quickly -- Chris' aim, conversely and unfortunately, did not.

The game mechanics clearly draw a lot of influence from Resident Evil 4 and 5 in many ways -- the game is set in the time period between 4 and 5. The various development teams within Capcom have managed to collaborate and share their knowledge to create a good-looking 3DS game.

We're yet to see a lot of story, the snowy environment in the demo was a bit "samey" and the standard clunky and occasionally infuriating Resident Evil controls were present and correct.

Gamespot said:

As with Resident Evil: The Mercenaries, the right shoulder is used to pop into an over-the-shoulder, laser-sighted aim mode, with the Y button to shoot. There's also a touchscreen inventory, as in Mercenaries, that works rather well. We add a number of B.O.W (Bio-Organic Weapon) decoy grenades to it as we scour the mine's cave network, fending off infected wolves as we go.

Revelations' visuals have a good deal of oomph, with or without 3D, especially in the detailed character models, and the 3DS controls lend themselves nicely to this Resi control scheme, as in Mercenaries. Where Mercenaries stripped plot away from the action-shooter-horror experience, though, Revelations puts it front and centre. Resident Evil fans hungry for a story should keep an eye on this one.

So level like structures in different locales? Different from the one big continuous RE world in 4 and 5. Controls are... interesting.

Vader, what are the controls like in the Mercenaries 3DS? I heard that Revelations has first person aiming because of the small screen. Is this a problem in 3rd person on Mercenaries?

It's been said Revelations will have an option for first/third just like Mercs.

The size of the screen shouldn't matter if the field of view is the same.

Edit: your gamespot quote speaks of the over the shoulder view.

I've only seen that in the video where Chris is crippled on the floor. I'm wondering if that is a one off moment or if you can aim over the shoulder in regular gameplay, because the first person view looks awkward and ugly.

Played more Xenoblade, tried out the classic controller - it's useless. Well, it's good for the camera as you can freely rotate but you still have to hold down a button and then press A and B to zoom in and out. But it has a fatal flaw in the combat stakes.

In the game you use the analogue stick to move your character about and avoid attacks and move in to attack. When you are using the chuk and mote, you can freely use the d-pad on the remote to select special moves and healing and still move your character at the same time. With the classic controller to use the d-pad to select special moves in a realtime battle you have to take your thumb off the left stick so are rooted to the spot. Unless you can change the movement to the right stick and camera to left stick on the CC - it's no good. And frankly the regular CC I have (not the pro) isn't very comfortable anyway.

I toyed around with item selection, it's easy because it tells you on the stats page when an item is benefitting you or if it will lower your stats with simple red for bad, blue for good colours. And the "arts" essentially special moves or healing abilities all have a bar which represents how much you have upgraded them so it's all very easy to keep track of and to use action points to improve the arts skill level.

Sweet GG keep the impressions coming. Iga where is your copy?

Not even dispatched. I saw the game in the stores today. If the game is not dispatched by tomorrow I will strongly consider to cancel my order and get it in the stores with a red CC pro.

Mine hasn't been dispatched either but it doesn't bother me yet as I won't be home till the end of the month so it has to be there waiting for me by then.

Why are they not reliable? Am I going to get ripped off?

They've been very reliable for me.  The only thing that happened on occasion which annoyed me is that they sent me new games which weren't sealed.  That's a pet peeve of mine

Yes, and that is true.  The day before yesterday I did something stupid while working on a vehicle. Exercise doesn't make you Superman.

Looks almost retro in design. It certainly looks cheaper

UGLY.

Compare that to the Kaz Hirai original: (Note the brushed metal):

None of the big publications have let their Deus Ex reviews out yet. I wonder if it was only given to them on the day of release.  Just 3 magazine reviews (which are not known for their credibility) rangin from 85 to 100.

I have to think the website reviews will start to hit today.

Yeah, the brushed metal looks so much classier. Have they just switched to cheapo plastic to get the price down? It's not even nice shiny plastic, it's like game gear plastic.

That's what I had assumed.  The screen is much nicer on models 2000 and particularly 3000 (and this one).

It has been announced that Xenoblade Chronicles, due to release tomorrow across Europe, is facing serious stock shortages. Nintendo of Europe seems to have not expected the great demand for their latest JRPG and so are dealing with both high-street and online retailer shortages.

The online retailer ShopTo.net tweeted earlier; “Due to the unexpected late demand for Xenoblade Chronicles the publisher (Nintendo Europe) has experienced great stock shortages of this title.”

Glad I got this early now.

"Great stock shortages" before the title is even on sale in shops. Bodes well for the USA and Canada, if Reggie is watching.

Ubisoft's DRM.  So far this year this has been their stance:

1. Always on DRM is required for our PC games.

2. Settlers 3 doesn't work. Okay, not all our games will have always on DRM.

3. Actually, always on DRM has been a "great success" it's here to stay.

4. Oh except for From Dust, it certainly won't have always on DRM.

5. Ah, except it does, sorry about that.  But Driver 2 won't have always on DRM.

6. Oh, except for the DRM that is there when you start the game.  You need to be on the internet when you start.

Four PS3 games added to the platinum range in September: Killzone 3, Little Big Planet 2, Motostorm 3 and GTA5.  15 pounds each and they still feel like brand new games.  Have LBP2 and Killzone 3 but I may get GT5 to scratch that itch until Forza 4.

PS I like the PSP cheapo.  I may get one

It's the same as the Wii except it has no buttons or analog stick.
