Oh and dual analog sticks! AFT. When all you guys who didn't buy a PSP get your 3DS, you'll understand why.
the touchscreen is better than a second analog stick
___
Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
Not for controlling FPS or action games (of which there are very few on the DS).
Wait until you are playing the port of Conduit on the 3DS.
Touchscreen works fine for FPS. As for action games, I'd rather they make action games with a good camera a la Super Mario Galaxy. It's what every 3D game developer should strive for. A manual camera should only exist when it enhances the gameplay, as in Monster Hunter (although MH fans clearly put up with the lack of a second stick considering the series exploded on PSP in Japan and not many care in the West anyway), not to fix a problematic camera. Also, for people who don't want the touch screen for FPS, with the comfortable DS buttons it could work with using the right hand for the movement as WASD replacement and the analog stick for the looking and aiming. It worked just great on the Dreamcast, you hardly need analog controls for the movement in an FPS, nobody misses it on PC. They don't do this on PSP because the nub sucks anyway. I'm sure Nintendo will design it better.

I'm not going to get into an argument about two pieces of hardware that none of us have even held yet.
All I can go on is my experience with the PSP and Dreamcast with shooters. It was abysmal. Unreal Tourament on the Dreamcast was practically unplayable.
I never played Unreal Tournament but Quake 3 was sexcellent on it. Perhaps you can explain why it's so important to have two sticks for an FPS when you only really need a stick for the aiming and it doesn't matter at all if the actual movement is digital considering all PC FPS have that. I'm going by my experience as well, obviously. Of course it could be awkward for people used to a controller to adjust to the switched sides but it's just a thumb, the left will be as agile as your right in no time with some practice. Let's not go to extremes calling it unplayable because of this potential adjustement period (which with modern FPS like MW2 will be even less thanks to all the aiming aids, which incidentally weren't present in the Dreamcast FPS - you could even play Quake 3 with PC players actually - so perhaps that's why you didn't do so well) otherwise I might as well say anything that isn't mouselook or IR pointing sucks ass and is unplayable so it makes little difference if there are two sticks or one.

I played Metroid Prime Hunters on DS Lite, and aiming worked surprisingly well with the touchscreen.
dementium 2 controlled really well on the ds

So did Moon.
New podcast is, up. plenty of laughs.
That fact that some of you find that surprising is a bit shocking.
Okay, I suck for saying analog, when I meant just STICK. If the PSP had it's cross pad on the opposite side of the device from the analog stick I'd be totally fine with it. Using the face buttons to aim BLOWS, which is what the problem was with Unreal Tournament.
Also, yeah on PC it's obviously fine, but when you are holding the monitor/joystick in your hand it's a whole other story.
Also, no need to attack my skills when you have not even played the game I was talking about. Unreal Tournament on the Dreamcast, compared to it's PC version, was unplayable. If I had Quake for DC I'd try it... actually I bought a tonne of DC games recently hang on... yeah I don't have it.
Vader -- are you alive? Or still in shock from that call with the Patriots?
This, I agree with.
You didn't even respond to most of what I said. Once again, now that you even concede analog character movement isn't a must, why is it such a problem your aim stick would be on the left hand with the 3DS and the digital movement on your right hand, using the buttons as a d-pad on the right side rather than as buttons or aiming or whatever? If Unreal Tournament really had the controls you mention then it sucked, although it's possible you didn't find the options to make the buttons the WASD equipvalent (read: the left stick, if that's the reason you didn't understand me, although I think what I was fairly clear) and the existing left stick the look/aim function (read: the right stick). I didn't attack your skills, I mentioned facts about what games do now that they didn't do on DC. With the controls I was talking about you didn't even have a reason to mention Unreal Tournament as not once did I mention that you could/would use the face buttons to look/aim in any of the suggested control schemes. It seems you understand what scheme I'm talking about and would be fine with it even on PSP (I wouldn't, the nub is awful) yet for some reason can't see that when both the PSP and 3DS have four face buttons on the right side, they obviously can be used as if they're a d-pad on the right side.

In my experience on the PSP and Dreamcast, the face buttons are an insufficient substitute for a cross pad or joystick for FPS games. The Dreamcast, PSP and 3DS have all placed their crosspads on the same side as the joystick, which make them impossible to use at the same time.
Ok, in my experience with the Dreamcast and PSP, the face buttons make a fine replacement for a d-pad (which is pretty bad on PSP in the first place). Although they're clunky on the Dreamcast - which also has a clunky d-pad, SEGA didn't design it as good as past controllers, it means nothing of the actual scheme's possibilities - it's way better (and actually perfectly workable) than attempting to use them for aiming. It's simply 4 digital directions, you can't fuck that up unless you try. I would think someone who would be willing to use the PSP's (imo awful) analog nub to aim could most certainly adjust to the buttons as a d-pad replacement just as well. The DS buttons in my experience aren't clunky so such a scheme would work fine on the 3DS assuming they use similar buttons and assuming the player doesn't want the already functional touchscreen controls most people enjoy.
Ign has some nice Epic Mickey footage, although it's spoilery. It still looks crude, though they say it's finished.
