Edge Games owner Tim Langdell will likely soon be losing his claim to the word "edge" (via Gamesindustry.biz).
A U.S. judge is currently reviewing a final judgement that will strip him of his claim over the words 'edge,' 'cutting edge,' 'the edge' and 'gamer's edge.' Langdell has used his trademarks to sue a number of developers over the years.
Langdell reportedly presented falsified Edge magazine covers, comic books and game box art to support his claims in trying to get an injunction against EA's Mirror's Edge, but the case was thrown out.
Other Langdell targets have included the iPhone title EDGE, which ended up being pulled from the App Store, and Namco's Soul Edge. The latter attempt was unsuccessful, but Namco ultimately changed the game's name to Soul Blade to avoid potential complications.
EA proposed that Langdell be stripped over his trademarks following the Mirror's Edge case, and it is currently being reviewed by California federal judge William Alsup. The judge will likely sign the final judgement soon.
That's old, it has already happened, his trademarks have been cancelled. The judge also added a nice term telling him he needs to notify all his licencees with the exact ruling so we can probably expect further lawsuits from people he's scammed in the future. Though many are small time and likely won't spend time and effort in something like that, I could see companies like NISA going with that...

I just unlocked ultimate difficulty in TWEWY. Sweet.
Thanks to everyone for their condolences and words of sympathy regarding my aunt's death. To be hones the effect on me was indirect. Personally, I never met her, and had only seen her in pictures. She lived in Canada all my life and sadly I have never been. It's more seeing how my dad is affected, that's the hard part.
One thing confirmed however is that the Canadian health system largely sucks and Brock Lesnor was right. Her death was very avoidable and could largely be attributed to doctor's mishandlings/errors.
As regards the games news/announcements of the last few days ... I think the assassin's creed multiplayer mode will be a failure and will be very short lived. i don't think it will work. and even if it does i don't think it will keep people interested for long.
As regards the non-gaming news of the world. I am hugely pleased and very moved by the decision to award the Nobel Prize for Peace to Liu Xiaobo. Should have happened sooner, but better late than never. Even if there's economic and political motivation behind the award, that man deserves it for his struggles for justice and human rights
