It is, it really is. I should try to play nothing but 9 score games this whole year, I bet I can and still have way too many games to play. We have reached the point where so many games are perfectly polished, everything is well designed. And yet nothing feels that new or different.
Take GoW3, I am loving it. Visually its on a different level than anything I have seen before but it plays for the most part just like GoW2. So even though what I am watching is incredible what I playing still feels like what I played 3 years ago. Even though GoW3 has moments that is more epic than any game I can think of it somehow feels safe, it's kind of crazy. A lot of games feel that way. The visual aspect is going to reach a cap, a point where no matter how impressive it isn't enough to sustain a full generation.

Perfect Dark is still such a fun game man, I just played through the first mission Datadyne Defection and fucking loved it, brings back so many memories of shit from 10 years ago...the N64, things going on at the time....so awesome.
Playing it again makes me remember how much better it was than Zero on the 360, and how much better as a whole Rare was as a developer. I mean this shit was epic gaming at the time. It still is.
In that first level there's only one area where you get into a major firefight, and its funny because just from that one time it made me think of how Rare's N64 shooters had this mayhem/carnage factor and a certain intensity that even shooters now don't have. When modern shooters get too intense they almost feel like a chore....not so in this game. It feels exhilerating and FUN.
And I missed this cheesy voice work; "GET HER!" Oh....nnnoooo" hahaha.
Graphically they did just like the Banjo games on LIVE; took the game and just really polished it, got rid of all the rough spots so it looks really really good. I didn't see the frame rate drop once, and the controls feel great. So good to play this again. Well worth the $10.
Music is the same way. I mean there are some really good bands out there but most of the CD's that have come out in the last few years just sound like more polished versions of some of my all time favorites, and seem to lack that special something, I guess feeling fresh and inspired.
Sometimes its like when things reach such a peak; where do you go from here? And yeah sometimes gaming feels like it could go that same way, but its like a decade behind music in that way.
Maybe I'm not the best person to ask for impressions.
If a game is different from the norm I'm gonna find reasons to like it. Whether or not it is a game that will appeal to everyone is kinda irrelevant to me... but you asked for it.
I think Infinite Space is one of the most intriguing games I have ever played on the DS. It's really, totally unlike anything else out there (on the portable or otherwise)!
From the opening movie... which is, yes, a MOVIE, to the fact that Nude Maker helped develop this (in Japan they are known for their erotic games), I keep on getting surprise after surprise!
Good voice work. Good quality anime style and movies. Even the space battles, though graphically simple polygons, look good.
It's part Space Opera drama, part RPG, part graphic adventure, but all unique as far as I remember compared to any games recently.
It definitely displays Platinum's signature quality and production values!
I've only played the first hour or so, haven't got into any ship building or serious battles (although you do fight pretty quickly in the beginning), but what I HAVE seen seems to suggest an IMMENSE game and has me very satisfied with my purchase!
Just one question. Is the stylus required to play this?

That's because you don't play many Wii games.
Yeah Vader, if you keep playing the same type of games over and over again things will feel a bit familiar.
The are plenty of games on the Wii, DS, PC and even the PS3 that do things differently.
I have no doubt it's one the best games right now, but I always still had a feeling that it won't surpass God of War 2. It's because God of War 2 really went all out and incorporated every crazy idea you can think of. It just seems like they did all they can with part 2, which is why I think Sony missed a grand opportunity by making GoW2 a PS2 game when it should've been a PS3 one.
But I guess it's like that with most sequels. Like Uncharted, for example. Part 2 was very good so it'll be tough for Naughty Dog to trump that with part III.

This map reminds me of Shapier, the main city in Quest for Glory II. For it's time that city was huge and with its roads twisting and turning in every direction it was an absolute maze. I recall getting completely lost on multiple occasions until I realized there was a very crude map in the instruction manual. But just exploring the city would yield plenty of rewards and surprises (including Harpo Marx walking by).
Anyway I'm stoked about this game now. Exploration seems to be something that's missing in more and more games these days and I'm looking forward to getting lost in a game again.
This game has me curiously HOOKED!
Besides the fact that it is sooo different...
You almost have to look at it like a playable graphics novel.
The basic, strategic battles are well done. (You'll command fleets eventually.)
I have tinkered a bit with the Ship Construction, and the simple, Tetris-like, room arrangement is easy and cool to experiment with.
The traveling is pretty much chossing planets or sectors on a galaxy map with random battles occurring as you travel.
The story is pure sci-fi (which in itself is kinda rare these days) and is well written and motivates you to see what happens next.
You can do story missions and side-jobs and it may even have a branching story line as you answer conversational questions differently.
Again, overall, nothing like it on the DS and very compelling.
I can totally see why this was such a H-U-G-E hit in Japan!
