How old school are we talking?  Is it more along the lines with the NES Castlevanias or does it have a few more features to it like Super Castlevania IV or Dracula X?

No 360 whip. When you jump you can move in the air but there is an option to turn that off and have it play like the NES.  There are no Mode 7 effects that CV4 was filled with. It controls and plays like an NES Castlevania but looks beautiful and the level design might feel like some newer Castlevanias.
