I'm also playing a lot of Devil Survivor thanks to Leo's reccomendation.  I have been pleasantly surprised at how good it is.  I wasn't sure about getting the game since I've never played a Shin Megami game and the name "Devil Survivor" wasn't reassuring me in anyway. But after seeing so many good reviews and a friendly recommendation I figured I'd pick it up.  Great game.  Totally loving it.

I'm also giving serious debate to picking up a PS3 this week. I had a birthday over the weekend, and thanks to many unimaginative friends and family members, I'm sitting on a lot of gift cards.  I was planning on picking up a Blu-ray player, but the more I think abou it.... for just $100 more I can get a new console you know?  But at the same time I don't have enough time to play the Wii games I want.  Tough call.

Wow, I can't believe how awesome Batman is! Played the demo last night and was not expecting that. I really don't need another game but fuck man I think I'd like to grab this when I pick up Metroid Trilogy this week.

Edge do you have Little King's Story?

I do but haven't played it yet. Playing Shadow Complex which is totally fucking AWESOME! All these other wannabe side-scrollers these days have nothing on this game.....THIS is classic gameplay done right with a modern twist. Easily the best console side-scroller I've played since Symphony of The Night. Why in the hell do more games like this, and of this caliber, not get made? Why?!

Good, you are off the asshole list.

About the Metroidvania thing. Yeah there are some awesome ones on the handhelds like the Castlevania's and Metroid Zero Missions and Fusion. But I know you do not like handhelds.

Get ready for Cave Story on Wiiware what is also a Metroid like experience and buy Aquaria on your PC. Check out this thread for more info.

Sounds tough. You might end up with many consoles, lots of games and no time, wasting alot of money.

Cursed-Mountain first english language review

In order to play, understand and fully "get" the game, you have to become Eric Simmons as soon as you take off that shrink wrap. Once you do so, the game succeeds almost flawlessly. At the beginning, Eric finds himself seeking the whereabouts of his missing brother Frank and a fellow climber after they've gone missing. As the plot unfolds however, it's clear that locating his sibling may be more of a curse than a blessing. The pacing screams 'adventure game', the combat screams 'innovation' and if you settle into the right mood, you'll be screaming inside as Eric's tale takes its twisted route through your eyes, ears and brain.

Visually, the game works perfectly at creating and setting its bleak tone from the very beginning and this oppressive sense of dread never lets up. For all the evil monks and farmer ghosts clawing after you, Chomolonzo is really the star of the show. The dev team really shows this off with some amazing work on everything including the assorted buildings and backdrops in and around the peak. The draw distance is incredible for a Wii game and As I mentioned in my preview a few weeks back, being able to look out and see where you came from at certain points is simply outstanding. Unless you have really bad agoraphobia, that is. Some of those views may have you clawing the edge of your couch. Even better, the fact that there's no loading screens during a chapter only adds to the immersion factor. Character and enemy models also look great; a nice blend of realism and stylization that balances quite well. If you let yourself sink into the game as Eric, the whole thing almost seems very real, which is exactly what Deep Silver intends.

There's a solid 15- 20 hours of gameplay here (my own time was 21:43:57 by the stopwatch I set up)

In the end, Cursed Mountain succeeds extremely well as the first quality horror adventure experience on the Wii. You can see, hear and feel the passion and dedication that went into its creation and only the most jaded "gamer" will ignore this fact. One thing the game industry absolutely needs is more developers that go outside the box and create fresh, innovative experiences for ALL consoles. This is particularly true for the Wii, which has suffered from too many dodgy budget releases, "me-too" exercise games and more "casual" titles than you can shake a Wiimote at. Deep Silver and all the development houses that put this gem together should be commended for their originality with your gaming dollar. With a wave of other unique horror games on the way for the Wii, they've now got a lot to live up to, as Cursed Mountain is one of the best and creepiest games on the console this year. And that, folks, is not subjective at all.

Anyhow this review is HUGE so read the whole thing at the link. Happy

I'm seriously contemplating on finally getting a PS3 now that they are $299. There were a few games I was going to pick up in the next week or so but I might just put those on hold for awhile and get myself one of those new slim PS3 models.

It's definitely worth it. The quality of the exclusive titles makes the decision an easier one to make. Be sure to pick up Uncharted, so you can play it before the second one. Grinning

Yeah there is definitely a good number of games I want to get for it and also I'm a pretty big MGS fan so I really want to finally be able to play MGS4.

it sort of happened to me.  i have no time to do justice to the ps3 and for the most part it's been a waste of money (both the console as well as many games).  having said that, i am glad i can play SFIV and little big planet on those instances when i need to and i'll be glad when the last guardian, gt5 and god of war III are released.

ps that was in reply to robio's concern

i think archangel should definitely get one because he gets through more games and i know he will get a good bit of gaming out of it, so definitely go for it mate

They're valid concerns to some extent.  Really the only issue I'd expect to have is time.  As a rule I never buy more games than I have time to play.  The whole DS situation is a little different, but that's because I found a neat little trading network local to me where people will trade their games with one another and for the most part keep a pretty high quality of game (no one tries to throw in Imaginez games).

But like I said, I know I don't have the time to play everything I want so I'd be missing on out on console or another.  Really half the reason I'm considering the PS3 at this point is for the Blu Ray player, since I'm likely going to pick one up before the end of the year, and for the most part they're already at the $200  mark.  So, I guess my question is $100 extra worth it for the half dozen PS3 games that are out now that I want to play?

Oh come on, if anything, it'll keep your house free of insects. I mean, it's not like it's going to crawl up your ass at night to lay its eggs inside your rectum, until they hatch and a whole batch of tiny geckos crawls out of your asshole while you sleep.

Oh wait.

i think archangel should definitely get one because he gets through more games and i know he will get a good bit of gaming out of it, so definitely go for it mate

Archie would rather shell out hundreds of dollars on a new console rather then buy games for the neglected Hobo console he already owns. LOL

Rare: Shooters will work on Natal
Quote:
Speaking to VideoGamer.com Rare design director George Andreas has revealed that while it may not be immediately obvious how a first-person shooter would work with Natal, it's just a case of having to rethink how you approach the particular design problems.

"We’re learning a lot of stuff about Natal every day, and there are many types of experiences that can be created with that technology. You just need to be able to rethink how you approach those particular design problems," said Andreas.

"To take a shooter, as an example, you would just have to rethink the way a shooter works," explained Andreas. "Shooters work the way they do at the moment because they’re based around the original Xbox 360 controller. You throw that away, you throw that interface away and here’s a completely different interface – now how do we create a shooter for this? Does it mean that you have to run, strafe, turn, throw grenades in the way that you’re used to? Maybe not. Maybe there’s another way of doing shooters."

He added: "You’re probably not going to get exactly the same experience that you do with a conventional controller, but that could also be a very good thing. There may be new avenues there that people haven’t explored yet that might open the product up to an even broader audience. We don’t know."

Andreas concluded: "So, can you do a shooter on Natal? Of course you can. Will it be exactly the same as something you’re used to on a control pad? The answer to that is probably not, but does that mean it’s better or worse? Well we’ll see what we can do."

Natal is currently expected to be released in 2010.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is on hold
Quote:
What sorry news; Beyond Good & Evil 2 is now definitely on hold.

Why oh why would Ubisoft put the sequel to Beyond Good & Evil on hold? Especially following the game's announcement and then the release of its first teaser trailer. This just sounds like a cruel joke.

The game's creative lead Michael Ancel talked about Beyond Good & Evil 2 as far back as May 2009, with Ubisoft confirming that the game was in development at UbiDays in Paris.

In April 2009 we again heard from Ancel that the game would be bigger and more immersive than its predecessor, despite the fact that full production had yet to begin. Still, we had the game's first in-engine teaser trailer to gawk over.

However, in July of this year, Ubisoft's North American president Laurent Detoc coldly put doubt into our minds:

"Whether or not it [Beyond Good & Evil 2] comes out remains to be seen anyway, but we didn't want to abandon that IP because it has a cache and authenticity about it. There's something very pure about that game and it's too bad that we were not able to build it as an IP at the time."

"Well, I didn't say there's definitely going to be another game. I said something had leaked, which means we've been working on some Beyond Good and Evil stuff, but whether there's going to be another game or not, that's something for the future," Detoc added.

Now Gamersyde's Snoopers confirms that the game has been put on hold after being informed at GamesCom in Cologne, Germany, tweeting:

"I got confirmation at Cologne's Gamescom that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is on hold for now. No idea if it's def or temporary but it sucks."
