Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobilePeople check out the Iwata Asks - Wii MotionPlus article I posted.
Iwata
So it was a bit like fitting the plug with suspension.
Wakitani
The technical term is a "floating structure". We used the trial equipment to carry out tests on that structure and the rate of temporary disconnection declined dramatically. So we felt we were on the way to solving the contact problem. But then, just at that point…
Iwata
What happened at that point?
Wakitani
The connection hooks used to lock Wii MotionPlus into the holes at the base of the Wii Remote snapped.
Iwata
I see… Up to that point, the accessory had been connected in three places: by the plug and the two hooks. But once you'd redesigned the plug so that it was a floating structure, too much strain ended up being placed on the two hooks.
Wakitani
That's exactly it. So we thought there was no solution except to reinforce the strength of the hooks.
Ito
That's why we used steel hooks.
Iwata
Steel hooks?
Wakitani
But we went a bit over the top in reinforcing the hooks' strength...
Takamoto
...And this time the holes in the Wii Remote broke!
Black Wii, Wii Remote/Nunchuck, and Classic Controller Pro (coming August 1st in Japan)
DO WANT. Is it real!
And...
Leave it to Team Ninja to start doing things the Xbox could do and showing that the Wii isn't a PS2. That interview is really interesting. Exploration is in. Yes.
wow, so shiny. does classic controller pro have force feedback? i hope it does but i doubt it
___
Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
I just realised Nintendo's new strategy to sell Wii in Japan.
Monster Hunter on screen, check. Then make it look like a slim PS2! Look, the controller, the blue and black wii.
totally true. also the classic controller (a secondary controller sold separately which a lot people don't have) redone to look just like the playstation pad and put predominantly in the foreground while the wiimote is left in the corner out of focus
___
Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
You might be right about that.
Lord of shadow looks sort of, well not very appealing. Not very Castlevania.
Impressive cast. Jericho dev though?
So what do people think of FF 14? It doesn't seem to be a true sequel, especially given the time frame. It looks like another one of these PC FF online games that has been rebranded to achieve higher sales.
Ito
We made it absorb moisture right from the start, but in a controlled and efficient manner.
Iwata
So if it's going to absorb moisture anyway, you might as well let it absorb it right from the start! (laughs)
Ito
So we boiled the entire circuit board.
Iwata
You boiled it? You're telling me you really tried that?
Everyone
(laughs)
Iwata
Circuit boards aren't normally something you boil, you know! (laughs)
Takamoto
There are ways to get plastic to absorb moisture so that it becomes stable. One of those ways is to boil it.
Iwata
Well I never…!
Ito
So we went and bought a pressure cooker…
Iwata
A pressure cooker?
Ito
Er… And we put it on expenses. Sorry about that!
Everyone
(laughs)
Is that a Dual Shock?
That's one very sexy looking Wii.
Did some more updates.
The mega red steel 2 interview is well worth reading. I will post extracts in the thread.
Fuck you Telstra.
Oh man Lords of Shadow looks absolutely glorious. I so can't wait to get that game. Home console Castlevania is back baby!
Also Jessica Chobot is so freakin' hawt. I got such a mad crush on her. I love watching her Strategize videos on XBLM every Friday regardless if I even care about the game.
You are a weak, weak man!
Is she nude?
The first preview of this game is in, and its good.
Gladiator A.D. is what you think it is. You control a hardened warrior equipped with a sword and shield. But it’s the little things that make High Voltage’s upcoming Wii-exclusive fighter stand out.
My demo of the game wasn’t as long as I desired -- and the game is still fairly early -- but I was surprised by two things: the simplicity of the controls and the depth of the single player campaign considering the game’s genre.
But let’s back up a second. When you boil the game down to its essentials, Gladiator A.D. is a traditional fighting game -- two costumed dudes smashing each other because, well, they can. But the perspective is much different than Street Fighter IV or Mortal Kombat. It’s presented from your character’s backside and the camera follows him as he maneuvers and dodges swings and slashes.
So, controls. There are three basic attack moves you can do with your fighter: two side slashes and a downward slash. You can’t move your fighter around -- he can only dodge attacks. Surprisingly, I wasn’t bothered by the lack of movement. All the action stays in front of you the entire time which makes the action that much more enjoyable.
Gladiator A.D. has at least two game modes: an arcade mode and a story campaign. In the campaign, you play as a fighter named Marcus. He’s a brutish low-level fighter that you take to the top of the gladiator ranks through bloodshed. It’s a typical formula, sure, but there’s a few dynamic things running in the background. You have to please crowds (they can throw stuff at you, or cause arena overseers to toss lions into the environment) and balance your appeasement versus the money you make (presumably for better armor and weapons) from not killing another fighter.
Also, this game is mad bloody.
Someone really doesn't like Sheva.
You can be a total jerk in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers. The first time you can play with the gravity powers is in the middle of a bustling city, which Layle nearly crashes his airship into. Lilties mind their business until you pick them up and throw them into each other. Sometimes you’re rewarded for doing this. An elderly Litly woman dropped coins after I threw her into town guards. There isn’t a penalty for being obnoxious either. If a guard sees Layle lifting civilians he will attempt to tackle and knock you down. That’s it.
From reading the previews I'm not sure on the extent of the physics in this game. Is it Elebits style physics? You seem to be able to point at anything and pick it up and draw it towards you using depth. But then the process of throwing it sounds like a gesture vs Elebits gesture and IR which gave you a realistic feel to throwing objects around.
