"This probably doesn't count as a franchise in name, but in nature David Cage games."
David Cage would probably commit suicide if he were to ever read that.
Boom Blox probably. Then see me buy an eshop sequel like a hypocrite.
While I did play the piece of shit sequel out of sheer boredom, I always thought de Blob should have been a one-and-done game. Judging by the sales de Blob 2 I apparently was not alone in my opinion.
Little Big Planet totally should have been a one-and-done game. There was no reason they couldn't have just kept releasing expansions for it and provided more items/pieces/etc. for the community of game builders. The storymode of LBP2 is pretty much agreed to be crap, and even the level design I don't think is considered to be on par with the original so it really offered nothing good aside from more tools for the rabid level builders out there.
Agreed on both De Blob and LBP. Katamari Damacy should also have been a one time occurrence.
Lumines.
Sequels are just new music/skin packs for the same game no?

Not really, Lumines for the Vita did improve a lot of stuff.

Oh good call on Infamous. I loved the original and yet I have zero interest in the sequel.

I don't want to write off Katamari so quickly but I agree its time to retire it. I thought there were some very creative levels in We Love Katamari, like the firefly level so to me I yhink some good designers could crank out some neat levels.
Borderlands is probably going to be a part of that category for me. Someone might talk me into playing co-op with them, but I have no intention to.
Listen to Iced Earth and play Doom

After playing the first one for so long I came to the conclusion that is is one of those SimCity-like games for me -- more of a toy than a game -- something to be picked up from time to time as opposed to demanding a concentrated effort to sprint to the finish.
But I get where you are coming from, particularly in my case where I have not touched all the DLC.

I think The Sabotuer killed InFamous for me. Similar framework and traversal but with much more panache.

The Saboteur killed everything for me for a while. Sean Devlin was too much of a badass for all of gaming.
Ravenprose said:Q*Bert. I've only seen videos of its sequel, Q*Bert Cubes, and it did not look very good.
Q*bert Cubes was terrible, but the later installment, Q*bert 3 that came out on the SNES was pretty good. Basically more of the same, just on a bigger scale. Much safer idea and probably what the original sequel should have been.
On a slightly related note it's bizarre how many great arcade games had absolutely horrendous sequels. The sequel to Burger Time, Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Factory, is one of the most disasterous unplayable messes I've ever come across. Spy Hunter II was complete crap. Bad arcade sequels just seemed to be the rule back then.
You're not really missing much, unless you beat off to Q*bert. Fun, but forgettable.
Gears Of War. Loved the first game, hated the sequel. Fuckin stupid worm on the raft took me hours to get by, kept getting stuck on the damn crates and stuff on the raft. Clipping issues and frustration abound.
I have some 3 and done franchises.
Onimusha....was supposed to be a trilogy, played them. Loved the 3rd game. Then they announced a 4th game, and I never played it.
Gears Of War...I liked all 3 even though I think the franchise is highly overrated. But I have no desire to play more unless they totally revamp it.
God Of War.....I've seen all I need to see out of greek mythology.

The thread is called "one and done."
You are three and done.
Franchises that continued, but you were one and done.
Surprisingly for me the first game that came to mind was InFamous. I was in love with the first one, but I've started the second one twice now and just am not inspired to keep going.
This probably doesn't count as a franchise in name, but in nature David Cage games. I went kicking and screaming into Indigo Prophecy, but again ended up completely loving almost everything about it. Tried playing Heavy Rain and just couldn't get into it.
There have to be many more examples, but that's all I have for now.
