I've run over a bunch of rabbits (five or six), and a coyote once. I felt bad the first time I hit a rabbit, but the second time onward, I realized that rabbits really, really stupid, and deserve what they get. I'd never go out of my way to run over anything, but when they jump out in front of my truck when I'm going 50 MPH down a dark road, then they're just asking to be run over. Shoot, most of them tried to outrun my truck!

^That roo I hit was not insignificant. Fortunately my vehicle has a "bull bar" specifically for the intent of saving the car in the event of hitting a roo. Nothing like that Moose there though, holy crap, I did not know they got that big.

Yeah, and that's not an abnormally big one, they're just huge.  The wreckage from hitting one can be brutal:

Ouch

(that wasn't a convertable)

It's important to note to our city dwelling brethren, that in the interest of their safety NEVER attempt to avoid a sudden obstacle in your path.  Your reflexes will tell you to swerve, but at the speed you will be going it's always safer to continue, as best you can, on the path you are on.

Did it have a collar? Did you find the owner? One of my cats was killed by a car once.

Several rabbits. One Kangaroo, a few birds.  All this is hard to avoid where I live. Being an animal lover (in the non-sexual sense) this was all very hard to deal with.

WTH man? A Kangaroo? And how do you kill birds? They fly away when you get near them.

GG - One hits birds all the time. There are so many where I live, they move in flocks, they misjudge space. If there is a lot of wind they don't hear the cars coming.  Crows never get hit, they are scary spart, but sadly other birds get wiped out all the time.

Sounds like a freaky horror movie, you're splatting flocks of birds on your car regularly? Ewwwwww.

Birds always fly out of the way from my experience.

I avoid hitting the road at night. You never know when a cow or a fucking burro is going to show up in front of you.

What happens if one sits in the road and doesn't move. Have you ever had to push it out the way?

Even though cows and burros are stupid, they know better than to wander around busy roads, however, every now and then a stray animal will end up dumbfounded in the middle of the road. If you are lucky enough to spot it from a safe distance, you can try and get it to move its ass by honking and hitting it with the high lights. If you find it at the exit of a curve, boy you're fucked up.

I ended up in the middle of a fucking cow herd once, but it was when I was doing my social service, in a godforsaken village in the midle of nowhere. I had to wait there for what seemed like hours until the fuckers moved out of the way. They would just stare at me, mooing stupidly. Annoying cows, stupid animals I fucking hate them.

My dad grew up on a farm, and his main incentive to get away from that life was the cows. He hates them and has an endless number of stupid cow stories. Dumbest animals on earth and completely deserve to be eaten.

I've only hit one animal in my life, a bird that smacked into my windshield.  I've always lived in predominantly urban settings though.  Atlanta, Dallas, Ft. Lauderdale, and now that I live in Orlando they only real animal I have any risk running into is standing on two legs and waving at the entrance to our theme parks.

Never hit any animal, I have been lucky. I knew someone who ran over his own cat (backing out of the drive way), that will mess you up.

My cat was killed by a car. Sad
