This picture and the fact that the next Zelda will use motionplus are the only thing we know about the next Zelda. So what do you guys think will happen in the next Zelda?

How will the WMP be used in combat, and how will it affect the puzzles?

What will be the setting of the game (ocean, sky, hyrule, etc) and what do you suppose the girl in the picture is (master sword)?

What will be the hook of the game? (Ocarina - Time travel, Majora - mask's and grounhog day, Windwaker - sailing)

We know the character design will be like Twilight Princess, but what will be the graphical style? (cel shaded, more realistic?)

And please keep it realistic, so no Zelda with HD graphics or Windwaker masturbating!

So let's get it on!

For the first time, I'm completely stumped to what Nintendo is going to do. Past Zeldas have been somewhat predictable, from the 2D Zelda days and after Ocarina. Even in 3D, the formula has been always the same with the catches you've mentioned incorporated in to make it a little different, like the wolf in Twilight and the hat plus getting shrunk in Minish Cap.

But I have no idea or clue what Nintendo is going to do with this new Zelda game. Miyamoto said that they're going to get away from the old Zelda formula so who knows what he has up his sleeves.

All I ask for is that they don't pull off another Phantom Hourglass. I hope this Zelda is challenging, brilliantly designed, engrossing and seamless gameplay, a HUGE world, and provide a lengthy and satisfying adventure.

Although Miyamoto said they want to "dumb down" Zelda for newbies, Aunoma said his goal is to make a Zelda game that surpasses Ocarina of Time. So it'll be interesting what Nintendo comes up with.

Considering the picture I'm guessing that as far as setting and all that jazz goes it won't be much different from TP.

On the gameplay side of things, though, with the motion plus I can see the gameplay---or at leats the controls being a lot different. And by that I mean it'll clearly become a first person shooter with the focus on the bow, and realistic sword combat.

do we know that it will use wmp for a fact?  i was under the impression that it was only mentioned that there was a possibility (maybe large, i don't know) that it would take advantage of the wmp.

as for my expectations ... i think right now i wouldn't mind a zelda with a significant diversion from the standard zeldas (green hyrule, forest, water, wind, mountain temples etc).  maybe a sky setting would be cool.  and link could use a deku leaf-like kite and the wind to get from place to place.  if it is to use wmp then i'd expect combat to be upgraded from just a filler and something to do whilst going from place to place or working out a dungeon to something more integral.  sword-fighting and bow and arrow should perhaps use some of the mechanics from the corresponding resort mini games.

graphically, even though very unlikely at this stage after that one picture, i would much prefer a cel-shaded game.  i just think it can look much better (especially on the wii).  even more specifically, i'd love to see a zelda game with Level-5 style graphics (dark chronicle, rogue galaxy).  in fact i wish nintendo would be so bold as to commission level-5 to do a more traditional rpg zelda spin-off (but this doesn't have to be the next zelda)

No way. Majora was a complete surprise and it is very different from any other Zelda. Oh and no one expected Windwaker, I mean you remember the backlash back then (Celda)?!

How can you tell? We only have Link's design. For all we know it can take place in space.

No Miyamoto said he was not sure if Zelda would be WMP exclusive. But Wii Sports Resort is selling well, the WMP is selling well, Tiger Woods is selling well. So I think it's more and more likely that it will be WMP exclusive.

You do realize that you can have cel-shaded graphics with TP like character design, right? There is no law that determines that cel shaded graphics require Windwaker-like melon heads.

From what we know (from Miyamoto) it will be a WMP exclusive now.

The visual style will be like Twilight Princess.

The game style will not be that different apart from the WMP intergration.

We can look to Sports Resort to see what kind of functionality there will be.

I hoping for something extremely different.  Though I did love TP, it was a little too familiar.  I hope they go all balls out, making it the quirkiest Zelda yet.  More so than MM.

I believe the controls will be similar to TP, use the nunchuk for shields, but sword play will be 1:1 with spinning sword moves and all kinds of cool shit. Maybe you could deflect arrows and magic spells.  Let's hope you can lob bombs like grenades in FPS, even letting them cook before you throw. More emphasis on aiming with the boomerang, hook shot, and bow. We should have been able to sling the spinner with the remote rather than just press A.

Maybe instead of using Epona, we could have a new mode of transportation.  Flying using WMP, perhaps.  Rowing a boat could be awesome.

I want the most devious dungeons the world has ever seen.  Some that put the water temples to shame.

As far as the visual style, keep it like TP.

But the formula hasn't really changed. Gameplay elements and aesthetics like art style has been varied with each Zelda game but the basic formula of exploration, finding items in dungeons to beat a boss, etc. has remained the core of the game. Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess...they've been very similar in that aspect.

The hook of the game is usually an item, many times an item with a personality. Seeing how the picture shows the sword is actually a woman, I think that is going to be our hook to the game. Its going to be called Zelda: The Sword of something, and the main gameplay element will involve wii motion plus sword moves I assume.

As for the open world to dungeon formula I think it stays, I just wish the open world is filled with way more secrets and it isn't so obvious where you need to go.

Yeah the basic formula will never change. Mario's basic formula is jumping, FPS is shooting, RPG's being inherently boring. Zelda will always have some kind of overworld, dungeons and items. That will never change! But why should it?

Dammit Steel you are a pathetic troll

Please study Grammaton and Carnage and learn from them. They have elevated trolling to an artform. I don't mind trolling, but yours trolling is not funny, not insulting, not witty. There is just nothing to it.

And now that Iga is all pissed off and shitting bricks about this not-so-subtle derail, I bid thee farewell.

I'd want the next Zelda to have a central hub, where you could send letters and furniture to friends throughout Hyrule.
