I quite like Silent Hill. It's the name of a place and as such it is very believable. There are many towns etc with such names in the US.
Divine Divinity is the most retarded game name I ever heard. Using the same root word for both advective and noun is nothing short of stupid stupidity.

What the heck?
If you want a generic name how about Fable or Quest 64.

I should ahve been more clear, I use Altered Beast and Silent Hill as examples of interesting titles, not generic like Hellblade.
Altered Beast is very generic, partly because it's so practical. Generic titles usually are practical: Hellblade is sort of set in hell, and the protagonist uses a blade as a weapon. (Right? I never actually watched more than 5 seconds of the trailer.) Ninja Theory are great at generic titles: Heavenly Sword is about a sword wielded by a heavenly deity; Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is about enslavement, using Journey to the West as the basis for its plot; Kung Fu Chaos is self-explanatory. Oh, and Ninja Theory itself? A company that makes beat 'em ups.
I was never fond of "Killzone". "Shadow Fall" makes things even more generic. I do really like the Killzone games though. "Viva Piñata" is an original name, though I wouldn't be too surprised if those words have been placed together before.
By Miu Watanabe.
>generic
>Silent Hill in any capacity, name included
Bulletstorm is pretty bad I think.
Oh, and Ninja Theory itself? A company that makes bad games.
Fixed
Bulletstorm is awesome for that kurtrussellesque nature of the game.
Some generic games from my collection:
Let us go for the low hangin fruit with the Atari 2600:
Adventure
Football
Skiing
Golf
Pinball
Target Fun
Moving onto the 5200 we have a wonderfully non-generic name (LucasArts first game IIRC)
Rescue on Fractulus!
And before I become overwhelmed by going through my entire collection, let's stop at a pretty ridiculous non-generic title from the Collecovision:
B.C. Quest for Tires II: Grog's Revenge.
Yes, that actually happened here on Earth, which is another reason the apocolypse is about 21 years late and counting.
Star Wars sublines are always shite, Dark Forces, Force Unleashed, Rebel this, rebel that.
Bravely Default. It's basically stating that it's proud to be generic?
Hellblade, honestly.
In the vast patheon of game names, choosing something so generic makes me facepalm hard. What are the most generic uninspired game names you've heard and in contrast what are the most unusual or unique ones?
Altered Beast came to mind as an interesting title. Why is this beast altered? Was it genetically manipulate? Is there some Frankenstein story going on? Unique.
Silent Hill - how can a hill be silent wtf? I need to know what this is about. That's an interesting name.
