This is the art

This is how it looks in game. Pretty cool.

By the end of the generation I think they'll basically have near perfect representation of the Mario artstyle down.

Game looks amazing and I love the roller-coaster circuits.  It makes me interested in a franchise I habitually followed but stopped being excited by a long time ago.  I'd be even more excited if they'd said they're done with the blue shell.  I wish there would at lease have options for turning items on or off, or for customising what sort of items are dropped.  Blue shell practically makes it a broken game

Yes, why even bother keeping the blue shell around.  It's incredibly frustrating.  Like you said, that could be a deal breaker for many people, including me.

I've never really minded the blue shell, usually it only hits me when I am so far ahead of the group it doesn't even make me lost lose the 1st place. Personally for me Mario Kart Wii was the best game in the series, the online integration was brilliant, tracks and controls great, everything was more balanced but the internet at large seemed to hate it. It was a monster at retail 33.78m it just blew up. I would have thought getting it out for Christmas would have been a priority, that would do more for U sales than 3DWorld and DKC.

Really excited for this.  I didn't like MK Wii all that much, it was a step back from DD in my opinion, eventhough I am the only soul alive to think good of the GC outing it seems.  I hoped they'd ditch the 12 player limit and we'd see 8 contender races again, as adding 4 racers made it nigh impossible to get back in the race after being stuck in the pack.

That comparision looks awesome.  And to think that'll be humming along in 1080p60.  Can't wait!

MK Wii was my personal favorite due to the controls and online integration.  I wouldn't even want to go back to the gamepad.

I'm looking forward to the new Kart game. I always enjoy them (though I didn't feel that Mario Kart 7 clicked). But I loved Mario Kart Wii. It was pure divine madness. I've got a feeling 8 will be much the same way, though I think they're going to pull back just a bit and allow the skilled players to shine a little bit more just as they did in 7. My only real concern is the riding on walls and upside. I'm a little worried that it's going to make me feel motion sick.

MK DS made me motion sick to begin with but I stuck with it and got used to it soon enough.  I didn't even have to puke that bad Nyaa

Not sure if that's in reply to me, but I wasn't talking down on the controls or online integration, but rather what they cut out going from DD to MKWii and the addition of 4 extra racers.

Not exactly a response on why you disliked the Wii version, I just remembered why it was my favorite.  I remember renting DD.and enjoying it but , honestly, I never played much of it to really form a final judgment on it.

Did you like the two-riders feature?  I saw it as a kind of gimick which only added to the randomness due to having more items at ones disposal.  Other than that I liked how the mechanics of the actual kart driving felt in DD.  There was a nice sense of heft to them.

One of my bigger regrets in gaming is that I never played DD. I got the DD GameCube bundle, but my only connection to the Kart series at that point was the SNES original which I hated. So I traded DD in and got $1.00 for it.

That is terrible.  MKDD was worth a good few bob even back then.  Now it's exorbitant.  Especially if you had the Mario Kart - Zelda Collection bundle.  I had a brand new unopened silver gamecube Mario Kart bundle stolen when the flat in London was burgled (still can't get over how many games and consoles I lost that day)

Apart from 64 with that horrible rubber band AI, I've liked all MK home console games. The portable ones are good too but always to a lesser extent IMO. I know we heard from a 'rep' it would be 1080p but I strongly suspect 720p at 60fps and I'm fine with that as long as it's as crisp as Nintendoland.

I'm with you on that, 7 felt good but kinda.... souless? By the motions? Good motions but not as good as the home console ones.

I did, and the cart selection due to weight.

What do you feel they cut other than dual characters? I like more people in the races, feels more hectic.

No man I had nothing.  The worst was losing my entire N64 and GBC collections (along with the consoles).  Many sought after and expensive games.  The Banjos, DK64, Jet Force, Perfect Dark, Conker etc lots of rare and very expensive games I will never be able to replace.  On GBC I had all the Warriolands and many more.  Also lost a brand new Xbox and a good collection of games for that too including some rare ones like Jet Force Future, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Shenmue 2, KOTOR 1 & 2, Jedi Empire and more.

What was all this doing in London?

I used to live there.  After I moved, I left a bunch of my stuff at an aunt's place hoping to shift it gradually.  All my games and consoles got burgled.  Luckily they didn't take an interest in my university books.  They were worth even more (even though personally I'd probably wish I still had the games instead of the text books)

I love Mario Kart.  Only one I did not care for was Double Dash.  My all time faves are SNES, and DS. Mostly DS.
