Now all they seem to be able to make in quality form are Final Fantasy games, and I'm even worried about FF13. This makes Edge depressed. End.
Pretty much that.
Because of the failure that was the Final Fantasy movie, they needed to merge with Enix. Now all they do is release stuff that is guranteed to make them money, with the odd non-DQ or FF game or remake. But everything they do is now a fucking RPG, or is so niche that it doesn't get released outside of Japan.
Mid to late 90's Square was AWESOME. It makes me sad now that they're just the FF/DQ house.
This is what I'm saying....where did their non-FF quality go? I have no problem with them making mostly RPG, as they used to be great at it. But now they just can't seem to make wine out of grapes. Its sad.
IGN has a story on it actually, and I pretty much agree with what they say.
Square has always sucked. I'm surprised that people are only noticing that now. The last good game they released was Rad Racer on NES.
(note: I hate JRPGS)
Listen to Iced Earth and play Doom
A better question would be, where the fuck did their FF quality go?
To the DS.
Okay fair enough.

THEY ARE ACCURATE WHEN IT COMES TO VIDEOGAME STUFF!
The World Ends With You is actually sooo good that it singlehandedly disproves this whole theory.
This is why I expected them to go all out on the most popular platform that had the most similar structure to the PS2, which they have a wealth of experience on.
In contrast, Square Enix's 2008 effort of ten releases across four systems (DS, PSP, Wii, 360) resulted in a far lesser 1.7 million units sold.* This is a 2.8 million unit difference and is a eye-popping 62.48% decline from 2007.

Squaresoft died after Final Fantasy X. Seriously the only thing of quailty that was first party developed was "The World Ends With You". And what's ridiculous is that was those directors FIRST GAME EVER. Seriously why the fuck weren't they making games like I don't know 6 years ago? And no I don NOT count Final Fantasy XII. Just because it was "different" doesn't mean it was good. I see it much like Windwaker, a great and interesting idea that needed more R & D time. That said I am very dissapointed that Atlus hasn't picked up from them. I mean the Megaten series is prime and they even have the balls to fund games like "Odin Sphere" and take chances with games like Persona 3. If I were them I'd seriously try and expand before Level 5 gets on that shit.

NOT DEVELOPED BY SQUARE.
Actually it was. Square did most of the work Jupiter just gave input and helping out a bit. But according to an interview I read before Square gave most of the word.

Archangel3371 said:I thought Final Fantasy XII was great same with Kingdom Hearts 2. I don't know what it is with Square-Enix but outside of their mainline Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games it's very much hit or miss. It's like they put on third rate teams of trainees on these other projects. I can understand the technical difficulties on The Last Remnant due to perhaps some trouble working with the Unreal Engine 3 but from the sounds of it the main battle mechanics of the game sound really flawed and just sort of half-assed into the game. I'm still very confident that Final Fantasy XIII will be stellar though.
Please explain.
Can somebody pleae tell me how Kingdom Hearts is good? I've played The first and the GBA spin-off and can't figure it out. The first is easily the worst 3D RPG I've ever played and the GBA game is beyond boring and repetitive, and from what I've heard the 2nd is WORSE then the 1st.

IGN has a story on it actually, and I pretty much agree with what they say.
The majority of people that made Square good in the first place are gone (hence why Lost Odyessy is the best JRPG and arguably RPG this generation because the people that made the game use to work with Square). Even a large chunk of their import publishing side left (they formed XSEED). And like most Japanese developers Square-Enix isn't promoting new blooded talent to work on new games with the exception of TWEWY (did I mention that the 3 directors of that game had been with Square for 10 years or near that?).
Also could you please post a link to the IGN story because I can't find it.
