Ugghhh.... now I need to decide whether or not I need to cancel my credit card or not. I've got so many accounts attached to it though. What a fucking pain in the ass.

Cancel it. I had to do just that today and you CANNOT believe how much trouble that caused me. I rely on my card for everything, from food to entertainment expenses... I also have quite a few other services tied to my card that will now have to be switched.

I was originally told 5 to 7 days to get the replacement. I have a Personal Representative who normally handles certain things for me at the bank, but even HE couldn't get them to expedite it without me being there, so I had to miss a few appointments in the middle of the day to get it done. Now I am getting a new Card and Account Number tomorrow.

Credit Cards and credit in general can lead to other types of credit and Identity Theft. Some banks will allow you to be liable up to $7000.00 when it comes to dealing with and repairing ID theft.

In the long run, it's worth the trouble. I don't have time to monitor my credit and watch my statements daily like Sony so generously "suggests" you do.

It totally fucks things up for me for the next day or so, but it's much better than YEARS of worrying if my Identity has been stolen or not.

As it is, I am STILL super pissed Sony let this go a week without notifying us --AND-- some of my Private Info is out there in Hacker's hands.

Really man don't panic seriously, I highly doubt that anyones CC's will exposed to ID theft, there is not enough info on PSN to really use someones CC. Just look at at your account online and make sure nothing is happening, if you see something out of the ordinary alert your CC company they will take care of it and tell you what you need to do. Over reacting and cancelling cards and freaking out only makes things worse for everyone.

I am gonna order a new debit card just to be on the safe side.  There's nothing suspicious about my bank activity right now.  I can't believe I just ordered something off the PSN network the WEEK before, for the FIRST time..

Just remember it's not Sony putting you through this, your own over reacting puts you in more stress and abuse then Sony could. I really think a panic reaction here is not the way to go. But I don't panic over things. This though is  way over blown already. The Media and people in general are making this way worse than it has to be, it might even Knock Sony out of the game business if people keep overreacting like this.

It's really really ironic (though in the most positive sense ever) how Sony refused to accept credit cards registered in Cyprus (even though it didn't refuse to sell us their console).  So for that reason we had to go into all the hassle of ordering points cards for anything we wanted to buy on PSN.  In hindsight it hasn't been so bad...

But I agree with Bear.  Don't panic over this guys

I have no CC info over PSN. My meager purchases have been through PSN prepaid cards. I do have CC accounts tied to other services such as Steam and XBLive, though.

Oh glee I just got the PSN e-mail. Hrm

In my opinion they deserve to be out of the game business if this starts to expose people to fraud and ID theft. Yes, I know it was Hackers that did this, but Sony sat with their thumbs up their collective asses, probably not wanting bad publicity, for a WEEK while outside sources had access to my:

  • Name
  • E-mail Address
  • Address
  • Telephone Number
  • Credit Card Number
  • Date of Birth
  • Password
  • Answers to Security Questions

Yeah, shame on me for not making all my passwords completely different (they do vary from place to place slightly)... but that's WAAAY too much info out there already. WHY. WAIT? I am ridiculously sensitive when it comes to my privacy and I find all of this completely unacceptible.

If a Private Client Banker at JP Morgan Chase find this concerning enough to call about this, let alone the fact that Chase even KNOWS about this, leads me to believe that this is actually a bit MORE serious than most sites are letting on!

The flippant attitude of that "expert" IGN talked to made it seem like "Eh. This is just a bunch of Geeky Video Game Kids. Now Kids, don't be mad at Sony! You should be checking your credit cards DAILY anyway. Looking at you Bank Statements DAILY too. Oh, and it would probably be a good idea to BUY a copy of your Credit Report in the near future too... Don't blame SONY if you haven't been doing that already, you LAZY Videogame playing children!"

Reading this just infuriated me even more.

Yesterday, my attitude was: "Chances of them using MY info. is ONE in 70 Million." Today after reading the news stories (which also includes CNN, btw) and getting calls from major Financial Institutions, well, color me concerned.

While I do understand how you feel Leo I refuse to freak out about it, I have seen many other places where this has happened recently this is by far not the worst, though it may be the most talked about. They said mabye not for sure on a lot of this, its still speculation on what was accessed. I still suspect this was more about PSN being hacked for free goods, which Sony would not admit I think they are embarassed. But hey if it makes you feel more comfortable go ahead and freak, cancel, change do what you have to.This stuff is all over the place though, if your going to freak you might as well stop using the internet to do any shopping, or banking or bill paying.

Errr... I don't.

Special circumstances.

I am more kicking myself for a personal lapse in judgement for actually using my regular card for something like this in the first place.

I am really NOT trying to panic anyone, perse, but Privacy Issues really, really, really concern me for a whole heck of a lot of reasons!

Does anyone believe this is all coincidental and this has nothing to do with Anonymous, even after the threats?

Just curious!

Well even if they the actual group had nothing to do with it, I think they can still be considered the cause. They stirred up all these hornets then just turned away. I think they have to be considered the root cause. I sure hope they catch and punish the person responsible. With so much media attention, I think thats going happen, hell the school shootings barely get this much media, I think its a little overboard.

Hard to say. For a group labeled as "Anonymous" they sure do love attention. This is pretty serious shit that will get a lot of heat behind the responsible(s), not to mention nobody behind this would get a free pass on this shit.

It really, really freaks me out that the Government is involved. The FBI is involved. JP Morgan Chase called me about it...

Never seen THAT happen before even with ALL the other breaches!

I still think this is the main reason for all of this, I think the ID theft concerns are a worry but not as much as some have made out, the real cause behind the outage is this.
