"flawed but intriguing" isn't an impression?

I thought the description, which was spread out over the two sentences, was a good one; and found it to be accurate. Incidentally, I also agree with the appraisal you've quoted there from the second sentence.

Risk of Rain -- Another Steam sleeper hits the PS4! A fiendishly addicting, side-scrolling, action-platforming, rogue-game, featuring progressively challenging difficulty based on the timer, tons of unlockables and randomized levels a-la Binding of Isaac with graphics that make Broforce look like Bloodborne but gameplay that tempts just one more try, just one more try, just one more try...

Invisible Inc. -- You wouldn't think a turn-based stealth game would work, but as you hack terminals, observe guard's walking patterns, ambush enemies unaware and break into corporate safes, you see it totally does. Klei Entertainment is quickly becoming a huge player in the digital game-scape!

Not that I'm a professional writer, by any means. Not that I have the right to criticize other's writing --BUT-- there's a few phrases in reviews that should be banished for once and for all. For example:

-- You would do well to pick it up!

-- "Yada, yada. High expectations. Yada, yada... BUT IT FALLS FLAT."

-- If you're a fan of ____________ games...

...

Well, I had a ton more examples, but as soon as I started typing I've seemed to have forgotten them all...

Not really a phrase, but reviews that try to incorporate the name of the game into their opinion of the game... Turning something like Invisible Inc. into Invisible Stink, for example... also needs to stop!

I'll add more to the list when I remember them!

I wish they had PSN library sharing or the ability to gift games on the PS4. A few of these games can't really be appreciated until you actually play them.

Invisible Inc., for example, has both a stealth vibe and Xcom vibe that I think even Vader would like!  GASP

I had incredibly high expectations for Invisible Inc, because of the superb transcendent experience that was Mark of the Ninja, and figured you would do well to pick this up. Instead the game falls flat completely in trying to take Klei entertainment's stylish and tight action to the realm of turn based strategy games. If you're a fan of Jagged Alliance 2, you should not play Invisible Inc, and just continue playing Jagged Alliance 2. 2/10notthecitizenkaneofindiegames

"I never want to stop playing ______ ____ ______. This game hit me the same way Tetris hit millions around the world back in the 80s. In fact, I want this game to be the next Tetris. I want ______ ____ ______ on every Nintendo system. I want it on the Wii U. I want it on the NX. I want it on the iPhone, Kindle Fire, Apple TV, Windows and TI-89 graphing calculator. I want it everywhere, just hook it to my veins. I'll admit it: I'm addicted to this game, and if you try to make me go to rehab I'll say neigh, neigh, neigh."

There's a game out right now that combines two things I find VERY dull on their own, yet it inspires such a passionate statement as the one above, taken from it's review...

...and I can't help but completely agree!

It's made me break the format for my own topic, just so I could put someone else's impression in here!

Without Googling the answer... anyone care to guess what this game is?

I'll add it to the topic in it's proper form, after anyone, if anyone, attempts a few guesses!

Nope! Nope!!

It's a recent release. Those other two are great, but this is a different beast altogether!

I never would have thought this concept would have worked, but... DAMN!!

...It's on a system you own too!!

The developer has TWO guaranteed multi-million selling titles coming out this holiday, but this game is a drastic departure from what they normally do!

________________________________

Pocket Card Jockey -- Game Freak has done the impossible and combined Solitaire and Horse Racing, two of the most boring activities known to man, into one of the most addicting and unique games since the original Tetris. The concept is crazy and the game-play is ultimately simple, but I absolutely guarantee, if you're in the market for something that will occupy your mind as well as your time, there's literally nothing else out there that will give you this much enjoyment for a measly $7 bucks!!

I've literally had the most trying couple of days. I'd given up on humanity, hope, friendship, relationships. I had reached the point where I put my PS4 status to offline, deleted all the shortcuts to my usual sites where I socialize, including this one... I had resigned myself to a lifetime of pain, lonliness and isolation... I was done. Had it. Kaput. Then I got a call from my doctor saying he would clear me to return to work by the end of May or early June after signs of improvement in my spine. Nothing too strenuous to start, but after 6 months of hopelessness, I'll take it!! After that call I felt an utter exhaustion come over me. Everything I've been going through kinda hit me all at once. I got the news at 3:30. I decided I'd have a little fun while I rested in bed and I DL'd Pocket Card Jockey at 4PM. It's now 10:30 at night and I am havng a hard time going to bed because ALL I WANT TO DO IS PLAY THIS GAME!!! In a time where I have had the heaviest thoughts of my adult life, and then a bit of a resolution, I was left mentally more fatigued than I have ever been before. Then, like magic, like someone flipped a switch, along comes one of the most innocent and ridiculous of concepts in the form of a seven-dollar download game, and I suddenly have something occupying my thoughts to the point where it is overriding my weariness and distracting me into NOT thinking about all the issues I've had for the last half-year. Even as I type this, as I resolve myself to going to sleep, I'm staring at my 3DS on the table beside me and fighting the compulsion to pick it up and play...

Yeah. That addicting. That good. Either the situation is crazy or I am, but relief at the expense of sanity... Yeah, I'll take that too!

Sanity, like those other things you mentioned, is a luxury. If one can find solace in insanity in the absence of luxury, it is still solace.

Better still is the news that soon such solace may not even matter so much. Happy

I'm just glad to hear there's finally some signs of improvement. Here's to better times!  And calling it Pocket Jockey is a little funnier.

Thanks for the well-wishes everyone! Although there was quite a bit of personal stuff in there, that was written more as a testament to the addictiveness of Pocket Jockey than an update on my well-being!

As soon as I was fully awake this morning, I picked it right up and won $10,000.00 in the Scepter Cup with my horse 'Phantom Pain'...  Nyaa  Did you see wut I did there?  Nyaa
