Transistor:
God I miss Greg Kasavin! God I loved Bastion! Can't wait to buy this game to support Greg --AND-- get the spiritual successor to one of my favorite DL'ables of the current Gen!
Rime:
The buzz has been extremely positive on this one. Described as Ico meets Journey... Which means at least two of you won't read this next line...
Starbound:
If someone, anyone else here would play Terraria, they would immediately understand why I am excited for Starbound. Terraria + Different Playable Races + Sci-Fi + Millions of Potential Terraformable Worlds = Starbound... Hype!
Mercenary Kings:
It's Metal Slug meets the Loot Genre. Need I say more?
Two words: Flatulent Dwarf!
A few more words: I love Rogue-Likes. This one looks NUTS! PC Reviews have been --VERY-- positive!
Don't Starve:
A Tim Burton-esque, Sandbox-Survival game... Wuh?! Sold!
It's already out, but I haven't seen many people talk about it so I want to throw another shout out to SteamWorld Dig. This is the best indie game I've come across in a very long time. It feels like something we would have all been amazed by in the 16 bit era, but it has far far more polish that anything from around that time. It's a simple but addictive premise. Dig as far down as you can, grab whatever metals you can find to sell, then go back up to sell them for more equipment that will let you keep digging down further. But you have to dig carefully, otherwise you might end up in a space you cannot return from and your only option will be to blow yourself up. Along the way you'll find major power-ups that will allow you to progress through obstacles that prevent further travel, and eventually you'll reach the mystery that's at the very bottom.
If you own a 3DS you need to own this game.
Valiant Hearts: The Great War & Child of Light:
Damn, Ubi! Keep it up! Good to see the UbiArt Framework tools being put to good use!
Wonder Flick:
Good to see JRPG's getting some lovin' in the Next Gen! This one is coming to pretty much every platform but due to lots of Touch Controls Wii U or PS4's Touch Pad seem to be the best way to play! Some BIG names are behind this one!
Resogun:
From Housemarque! This will be to the PS4 launch what Super Stardust was to the PS3; Buzz has been VERY positive on this one too!
You know with how many Digital games there are nowadays I've never gotten heavily into them. Whether fair or not, most of them give me the impression that they are feeding off of nostalgia for whatever game they are inspired by and will never impress me in that kind of way. I think the only digital release that really impressed me this whole generation was Shadow Complex. I was truly excited for that game and liked it quite a bit. Even though it was also a game inspired by others like Symphony of The Night and Super Metroid, it also felt fresh and new. And I liked that the production values made it feel like a proper modern game.
Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut:
This one is out now for PSN and Vita! Imagine if Silent Hill was an Action / Graphic Adventure on the NES and you'd kinda get the idea!
Velocity 2x is getting some positive buzz. Part space-ship shooter, part side-scrolling run and gun shooter. Bits of Guardian Legend in there, a touch of Turrican it seems, maybe some PixelJunk Shooter. Coming to PS4!
Started this topic nearly 5 months ago, most of the games in here still don't have release dates!
Downloadable games will be even more important in the Next Gen than they were in the last. The cost of AAA's being nearly unaffordable for most companies and the rise of Independent Developers that are both talented and devoted to certain styles of games makes indie gaming both practical and HIGHLY desirable! Where else would you see Rogue-Likes, Platformers and Side-Scrolling / Top-Down shooters in the age of Call of Duty and MMO's? The PS4 especially seems to be supporting the little guys and the results are VERY intriguing. This topic will be devoted to DL games (primarily) for Sony's system, but should Nintendo and/or Microsoft get their acts together, expect to see them in here at some point too! Here are some games I am anticipating in the coming months for the Next Gen systems:
