This explains why Nintendo wasn't backing uDraw.

Yeah, If I were THQ I'd be a bit pissed off.  They even stole the name.

Nintendo helped them develop the hardware. According to some interviews I watched THQ came to Nintendo and said "we have this idea, but we're software guys and can't quite get it to work." Nintendo took their notes and pretty much showed them how to build it. I'm sure Nintendo at that point let them know they liked the tech and would probably use the idea for themselves in the future.

It sure doesn't seem like Nintendo to rip off anyone. Seems equally unlikely they would have tipped their intentions either though.

3rd party games

...

Thanks!  That's awesome.  So since the U supports Wii controller it will support the Classic Controller S -- which I guess is how we'll be able to play regular games on it.  No Activision though eh?

How did they rip THQ off? It's a home console version of DS (TV is one screen, controller the other) with more uses the setup enables.

Yeah but those are all ports of games coming out this year, are you really going to wait for the Wii U version?

In my case I pick up games ridiculously later than everyone else. I was playing Assasins Creed 2 while others were playing Brotherhood and I haven't got around to Fable 2 yet, so yeah I probably would wait. But by then they would be hobo price on 360 anyway.

Ninja Gaiden is an exclusive, a separate game from NG3 and Ubisoft are bringing an exclusive revolutionary FPS they say.

Has there been any speculation on the price around here? I'm guessing $399 USD.

No activision yet. You can play regular games using the Wii U controller, it has eight buttons, two sticks etc.

This is what had me confused.

Yes, console and controller.

THQ are bringing it to 360 and PS3 and I hear Nintendo designed the damn hardware from THQs ideas so I think they will be fine.

I have to think it will be more with that controller, can any one say 2 Vitas for 1 Wii U?

Is that what they are saying?  Using the U controller for regular games?

They said it would be competitive with what is out there now, so I'm thinking $399.

It was so weird to watch the presser as it unfolded. I was confused all the time, not quite making heads or tails out of the nature of the controller. I guess you could say I was at sixes and sevens. It's nice to hear about the graphical boost, and of course the controller itself carries some neat potential that will undoubtedly be exploited by developers.

I'm only worried about two things right now. Even though the controller does have the common elements of a traditional gamepad, I am not sure it will be comfortable enough for me, and I think the layout is inferior to the one of traditional controllers. I will always prefer traditional controls over motion sensing and touch devices for gaming, so I'm quite worried this controller will not be good for me.

The other thing is price. This will surely be the most expensive controller for a console ever. Full Wii motion plus sets go for around $100 over here, even now that the Wii is on its way out. God only knows how much will this exotic device will be.

Yeah man, in form and function the Wii U controller is the classic controller, it has 4 shoulder bumpers, two sticks and 4 face buttons. It will totally work for normal games.

From what I have seen it is one Wii U controller per console and then anyone else has to use the Wii 1 controllers. So you wont have to fork out for extra Wii U controllers. Also remember that the controller is a shell that streams a wireless signal, all the tech is mostly inside the unit next to the TV.

Really nice looking system and I love the controller. Don't much care for the name though. Very nice looking tech video with the bird and Zelda looks glorious on this thing. I can't see them selling this for more then $399 and I'm actually expecting something like $349 myself. Either way come launch I'll be picking one of these up.

So, a few Wii U things.

1. Every preview has said that the controller is light and comfortable to use - so to the skeptics, does this change your view on it at all? If not, why not?

2. Cube controller NOT supported

3. Wii controllers must have motionplus for Wii U games

4. Investors unimpressed with Wii U and Nintendo stock dives. Pachter is impressed though.

5. Wii U uses 25gb discs

6. Wii U has a custom AMD Radeon HD GPU: High-definition graphics support; rich multimedia acceleration and playback; and multiple display support.

7. IBM puts Watson's brains in Nintendo Wii U: The all-new, Power-based microprocessor will pack some of IBM's most advanced technology. Watson was a supercomputer

8. Wii U has 'Xbox Live, PSN level online capabilities' Says Nintendo

9. Wii U powered by Unreal Engine 3 tech - Epic Games is very likely supporting Wii U with its popular engine.

10. Wii U priced over $250

So, thoughts?

I just realised its like a high end version of gba/cube connectivity.

So guys who have yet to buy a 3DS but have at least been considering it (a group I put myself in), has the conference yesterday and the hands-on with the half dozen or so key games brought you closer to getting one?  Has Sony's conference put you off buying that 3DS you were considering by charming you with the Vita?

I've been wondering this about myself.  I think I will be seriously tempted by the 3DS once a few of those are actually in shops.  Especially if there are some better deals by that time.  As regards the Vita, it will again depend on games, none of the ones announced so far are turning my eyes but I'm sure it will happen at some point.

Can we safely assume Sony and Microsoft tech guys are already busy building their very own versions of the uPad to release by the time of the U's release for their respective consoles?
