+1 for the first mention of Benjamin Britten on this website.

Just a pity the music isn't by him and featuring Peter Pears. Nyaa

+1

I really need to hear more Peter Pears with non Britten music. And I can't help but wonder what he would have sounded like singing jazz...

Let's get some Britten on the piano...

And some Britten opera, and it'll be  aparty!

I just stumbled across this. The London Pops Orchestra does Disney, the samples sound quite good.

I find this tune completely escapist but at the same time very heartwarming and hopeful.  Perfect for a bleak winter evening.  Dedicated to Ragnar, it's the kind of music I think he would enjoy.

Fleet Foxes - Mykonos

Foolz please recommend me some dope hip-hop underground or otherwise.  I think you like labels like Definitive Jux and Anticon etc which I do too so I'd be interested in anything in that vain or whatever.  Doesn't have to be new.

I'm terrible at recommendations but I'll try! You've probably already heard all of these save for one as well:

C-Rayz Walz and Sharkey - Monster Maker: C-Rayz Walz was on Def Jux, but this album wans't I don't think. Considering that you could also go for Danny! too.

Danny Brown - The Hybrid. Not all that Def Juxy, but it's nice to hear someone with a Bay Area influenced flow who isn't Hpyhy. Need to hear more of his stuff, but what I have heard is dope.

Deltron 3030 - Deltron 3030. I assume you've heard of this. Dan the Automator and Del? Obviously you can't go wrong. Such a pity Dan isn't involved with Gorillaz anymore.

Binary Star/One Be Lo - Masters of the Universe/S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. Basically the perfect underground rap. Assuming you've checked 'em out already, though.

Ivens - Sounds to Expire to. He's Australian and perhaps sounds a bit too much like el-p for it to be just an influence, and he's certainly no el-p in terms of lyricism or flow, but Plutonic Lab's beats are always on point, and he does not disappoint. Even more impressive given these beats are by a guy who mainly does smooth, boom bapish beats.

Busdriver - Cosmic Cleavage. Okay this is more Anticony. He's got a free album that you can get from his website. I haven't heard it yet, though but probably worth checking.

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All. Not Def Jux. Not Anticon, but damn good. Just don't call them horrorcore. And I'd suggest mainly sticking with Tyler and Earl as they're by far the best. The rest is wroth checking, though. All their stuff is free on their website.

And finally...

Das Racist - Sit Down, Man. More Scumlife than Def Jux or Anticon but they're funny enough to stay entertaining, and the production is top notch.

I enjoyed all these with the exception of the first one (because I could never stand Eddy Grant's Electric Avenue).  Out of the others the only ones I had heard previously were Del and Das Racist.  I really like Del's delivery.  Ivens and Busdriver I quite enjoyed and looked for more.

Thanks a lot for these man

Glad you liked most of them mate! Happy I'd suggest trying another song on Monster Maker if that's the reason, though. Grinning

Del's delivery is dope. It's nice and simple, but always on point.

Foolz you like the residents don't you?  I must confess I always avoided them, partly because I thought they were some kind of 70ies psychedelic avant-garde rock trip I would have no interest in and partly because they seemed like the kind of band that is "god's gift to the hipsters".

Lately I've been listening a lot to the cLOUDDEAD album (which I rediscovered after some years) and loving it to death.  Reading up on the album I found a number of people comparing it to the Residents' eskimo and not available albums.  I thought to myself how can it be that a collection of contemporary hip-hop singles could sound similar to obscure 70ies "rock" concept albums.  Which prompted me to investigate and litsten to the residents for the first time.

It's true, I can certainly see the similarities in the atmospheres and the ambience of the tracks.  and if you replace the rapping with faux ennuit chants and voices ... voilla!  I'm very pleased with this discovery.  Respect to the residents ... and love and more love to cLOUDDEAD

It is so incredible to listen to this on a sunny yet very cold winter afternoon.  cLOUDDEAD - Apt A (2)

I think you are in for quite a treat.  I assumed you already loved cLOUDDEAD like an old but very warm and comfortable coat
