I played EverQuest pretty hardcore for about a year and a half when it was first released and loved every minute of it. I'd even go back to it for a few weeks every few years to see how the world evolved. I loved playing in a living evolving world that had its own rich history. I played others like WoW and Dark Ages of Camelot but none ever hooked me like EQ.
However, even if another MMO came along for me I doubt I doubt I'd ever have the free time to play it like that again. Its easy when you're sinigle and have no responsibilities (and for a while no job) to make time for that kind of game. That being said I do have a few on my radar that I will try to make time for.
- EverQuest 3 - if this ever gets developed I'm jumping all over it. I miss the world of Norrath.
- The Marel Comics MMO - supposedly you'll get to play as the actual heroes unlike the DC MMO which makes you develop your own, and who the hell wants to do that?
- Dragon Quest X - damn skippy I'm playing this one. been waiting for it for years.
I am not MMORPG adverse, in fact I have played many MMORPGs, but have 0 interest in the likes of KOTOR and ES as MMORPGs.
The obvious reasons:
1. I do not have enough time or energy to dedicate to an MMO at the moment.
2. I do not play either series for the same reasons I play an MMORPG.
The not-so-obvious reasons:
1. After the wide variety of MMORPGs I've played I have come to the conclusion that no one makes them like the Koreans. There's excellent detail in the worlds of Korean MMORPGs that is simply lacking in Western ones, but more importantly, they are generally far more complex and much less accessible. It's harder to build characters, requires a great deal more research and effort, and even to be a reasonably good player you must invest a great deal in each build. You don't need to do that in Western ones, though this is offset by a little less grinding, but meh. It's an MMORPG you're going to be spending countless hours doing nothing interest so it may as well have a better pay off and not be sugar coated.
2. Private servers. The smaller communities of private servers make for far more interesting and complex gameworlds. It's very easy to become involved in the politics of running the server and the role of the GMs which simply isn't there on public *ahem* legal servers, and as far as I can tell Western MMORPGs seem to have less private servers floating around...that could be completely wrong, though.
3. Koreans are far better at plagiarism than the West. You're not meant to just copy one single game (in that case you'd be better off playing a Chinese MMORPG anyway, amirite stereotypes?) but steal all the good things about a whole bunch of games. Korean devs know this.
The one MMO I played for I really got into it, joining the forums and really keeping track of the community. But in the end I was just doing repetitive things and I wasnt going anywhere. I am very interested in The Old Republic but only to play through the story like a single player game. I dont care about the online aspect, playing with others or staying for months. I would like to get in and get out and see as much and play as much.
I'm MMOphobic, mainly for two reasons.
I have an addictive personality and wouldn't really trust myself with something which most people say that by nature is very addictive.
Will find any excuse to put off work and other responsibilities, so having something like that to go to at any given time would just not be good.
So I stay away

All the more reason to do it IMO.
Pokemon MMO for WiiU. Tablet controller would be used for battle and pokemon stats as well as Pokedex.
Do it Nintendo. Do it and watch the whole world burn down in madness.
I've pretty much avoided the MMO genre because I refuse to pay a monthly fee for a work simulator, and the f2p ones have all still managed to be bad. Of course, I'd cave at least a couple months for a Doom MMOFPS/RPG.

I used to feel this way, but that's not the reason I don't play MMO's. It's the time it would take from my other gaming. I just cannot see being married to a single game when there are so many other games to play.

Yeah, not having a job would change things for me. I could see seting aside 2 hours a day for my MMO, particularly if I could be watching TV at the same time.

What Korean MMO's are you thinking about with this?
Lineage, the Gravity games I've played...and...Pangya. Which I thought was pretty simple until I saw other online golf games. It was slowly getting killed off when I stopped playing, though.
I'm mainly comparing these to World of Warcraft, though. I think the only other Western MMORPG I've played is RuneScape lol.
While the world of WoW generally looks great, there aren't really any secrets to discover, and there's no point in exploring the general game world; the quest vendors are generally in very obvious places. The dungeons all work in the same manner with little variation, and the same can even be said about the instances; they all generally pose the same challenges. The instances are awesome nevertheless, though.
On RO most of the dungeons had very different challenges; you had to go in with particular strategies, certain party groups and equipment set ups, know what enemies to kill first, what to ignore, and where there were hiding places where you hide if things went pear shape and recover.
However I did rush through WoW because of the friend exp bonus that lasted for a limited time so that could have made my experience completely different to what it should have been in normal circumstances; any Gravity game's private server with an exp multiplayer of over 3x were completely different games, and in general, far more boring. Unless it was something ridiculous so that you could max out your character in the newb zone and just mess around with stupid builds.

So Elder Scrolls has an MMO. Still not interested in the genre. Which made me think, okay, we've had Star Trek MMO's, Star Wars MMO's, Sims MMO's, Conan MMO's and all of them have had relative degrees of failure. These are some killer IP's that have hugely loyal fans that I can pretty much guarantee have a PC and an interest in gaming.
Which brought me to the thought, if none of these MMO's have taken my interest, can any MMO?
I went down my checklist of popular culture and video game subjects and nothing came to mind that would get my interest. Even a Yakuza MMO would not interest me. Which makes me think that there has to be more than IP involved.
Are you MMO averse? Is there an IP that could sway you into a free demo?
