Hey everyone! Guess what game I just played...!

THE NEW CASTLEVANIA ! ! !

No. Not THAT one!

THIS ONE:

...and you know what? It ain't half bad! It is decidedly TOUGHER than the DS games, simply because it is best played multi-player and I was playing it alone. (WHERE. IS. ASK?!)

...But it plays just like the CastleVania games we all know and love!

I tried Soma and, sure enough, there was an option for Equipping Souls, just like he could in Aria and Dawn. I guess all of the Characters retain their trade-mark specials in this game!

The stages are littered with all sorts of enemies, from Skeletons and Axe Knights to Flea-Men and the Arrow Shooting Angels. There is one major boss target per stage. Getting to him/her/it before the time limit runs out (or you die) is quite the challenge!

There are shortcuts tailored for specific characters, like those "pegs" Shanoa could attach to, to reach higher places. Soma can double jump, but can't get to certain areas by himself. It's not impossible alone, but working as a team will get your further, quicker!

Some of you will be VERY happy to hear the stages play out more like a Classic CastleVania, than a MetroidVania. The stages are humongous and labyrinth-like though, so zooming in out out and looking around with the Right Stick is VERY necessary. The game doesn't miss a beat, nor slow down, nor blur when zooming all the way out. You can even play that way if you wish... The Boss of the first stage, for example, fires a HUGE Laser-like shot throughout the stage occasionally and you are going to WANT to know when THAT is coming... but it's not very practical to play like that for an extended amount of time. Sure the boss is big enough to see, but you're just a few pixels and so are the common enemies, so you WILL NOT be able to see them clearly. Still a very cool effect though!

I assume the better you do in a stage, the better rewards await you when you beat one. Still haven't done that yet. You "Shop" before you start a stage; you find verrry little weapons and equipment in the actual stages, and the ONLY place you are able to change these during the stage is at a designated "Book" location.

So far, it is a great, great little game!

Can't wait to try it WITH someone!

Glad you're enjoying. Try Shadow Complex for your Metroid-like fix and LIMBO.

I've decided not to jump around too much or I'll never finish anything! I just wanted to give Halo and Fable 2 a try. The Gears games can wait. I've decided to dig into Mass Effect first!

I've finally got a handle on the Menus and the Equip screens. They are rather confusing, though. I didn't even KNOW the Left and Right "Bumpers" let you change Weapons and Skills during battle! I've finally tried the Pistol (reliable), The Assault Gun (Fun but less accurate) and the Sniper Rifle (Deadly, but I am not trained in it, so I SUCK with it!). Ironically enough, I've heard Shepard's best weapon is the Shotgun, but I haven't even tried it yet!

I'm having a hard time deciding what Skills to assign to him. I don't know how long I'll have the party members I am with now and I don't want to have redundant skills. Suggestions anyone?

Also, about how long is this game?

Mass Effect menus are complicated.

What about Fallout 3 ones? I played for a couple of hours before I knew how to switch to a pistol. Stupid hud.

We'll haveto wait for Steel for the details, he loves the series.

Personally, I could not get into it after over two hours.  I spent most of my time walking around geting lost. Then in the dialog menus they either did not have a response I wanted , or if I chose a response it would many times sound a lot like one of the options I did not choose.  I don't want to be a hater, I will play it and the second one again some time.

I did like feeling like I was an extra in an episode of Star Trek:TNG.

This coming from the Mo-Fo who didn't read the Cursed Mountain instruction manual and played the whole game without knowing how to do a simple move? LOL

Sorry about the late response. Soldier is a fun class to jump in as a newcomer, even though it lacks the fun biotic or tech skills that other classes have. It's pretty easy and straightforward as well. All you have to do is provide enough firepower to deflect attacks from your weaker teammates (except Wrex). You need to assign skills to your teammates that compensate your lack of tech/biotic power. That means that as a soldier, you shouldn't stick around with Ashley for too long.

You'll want to max out Spectre training (whenever available), don't bother with first aid, do bother with Fitness, choose the couple weapons you feel most comfortable with (and that suits your combat tactics best) and max it out. Can't go wrong with Shotty/AR combo. Oh, and I'd recommend HIGHLY maxing out singularity. It's a gift from the gods in difficult situations. Combat armor will depend if your playstyle is either predominantly defensive or offensive.

Thanks! I seem to just have a generic team at the moment. I really have just started the game. It kinda just dawned on me that you can apply skills your other team-members have yourself... Right?

I think one of my guys has Engineering Skills, so I was able to unlock a door by decrypting it...

Gonna need to play it a bit more, get some real team-members and start experimenting!
