Wasn't for me. At least not until I got the white sword, large shield, and blue ring. Now it's a breeze.

I assume 8 is the final dungeon?
Yodariquo said:Technically you can beat the game without ever picking up the sword.
That sounds too challenging for me.
I gotz the raft! Onward to dungeon 4!
Holy crap! I'm actually having fun with this game now!

The video I posted above shows how to get several great items which helps make Link more powerful, take less damage, and have more life, which was exactly what I needed to finally get into this game. Link starts out ridiculously underpowered, IMO. You can power Link up with all of the items even before you enter the first dungeon.
Okay, I finally get enough money to buy the key. I go back to dungeon 4, and go up against the boss. I die quickly despite having 11 full heart containers. I surmise that I need to use the bow that I had found earlier, but it doesn't have any arrows. The arrows cost 80, but I am broke, so I again run around killing enemies in the overworld to get enough money to buy them. I do so--which takes forever, BTW-- and go back to the boss. I then realize that it takes money to fire the arrows! WTF?! And I was broke . . . again. Needless to say, I did not beat that boss, and I have to, YET AGAIN, grind for money. Argh!
Bastards, Nintendo are!

Why does it cost money to shoot the arrows? :/ Are you paying for the life insurance for the monsters you're killing?

It cost 1 Rupee every time you shoot an arrow.
Oh, and I didn't even need the effing bow and arrow to kill the boss in dungeon 4! In fact, arrows don't work against him at all! They just bounce off without affect.
I finally did kill him, though. And thanks to all the grinding, I managed to find dungeon 5, 6, and 8. Dungeon 8's location was really weird, BTW. I'm surprised I found it at all. Still have no idea where dungeon 7 is, though.
EDIT: Okay, dungeon 5 is kicking my ass. I NEEDS teh Red Ring!
It's a NES game. What do you expect?
I assumed the cartridge would fossilize in your open hands.
Level 7 was the hardest labyrinth to find (they're labyrinth's dammit, not dungeons). When I found it by accident in 5th grade I was heralded as a genuis by all my classmates who likewise were stuck.
And for the record you never have to buy keys in the game. Each labyrinth has all the keys that you will need to complete it. You just have to find them, whether its clearing out a room's monsters or pushing a block to make it appear, etc.
By the way it only gets harder. Just wait till the second quest whn you have to deal with invisible holes in walls.
If labyrinth is too hard to spell I can see why the game is giving you so much trouble.
. . . TEH MASTER SWORD!!! Sure, I died right afterward, but I found it!
I'm going back to dungeon 5. I'm ready to kick ass, and take names now.
And why can't I use the blue candle more than once per screen?
And why didn't Nintendo include the map with the VC release? The map I downloaded off google is kinda difficult to read.
Dungeon 2 is even worse!
