It's pretty much the same, but it seems so refreshing to me. I really got into taking down the gangs, finding all of the side missions, hunting animals, building my skill level...The wild west feel to it was perfect.

Did you finish it though Travo? I only play to beat, and that was my problem with GTA4.
I personally don't think so.
From what I played early this year with Red Dead, it's quite an amazing game. For me, I never really played GTA (never played GTAIV), so I can't say if it's like comparing Fallout 3 to Oblivion, since Fallout 3 is seen as Oblivion with guns. But as one who played both Fallout 3 and Oblivion, I can honestly say that it's NOT a fair comparison. It's similar, but they both do different things. And the difference in the setting also brings a whole different experience.
So what I'm saying is, no, I don't think it's GTA4 with horses. But I also prefer Red Dead because of its western setting, which I like.

Now Playing: Golden Sun Dark Dawn, God of War Ghost of Sparta, and DKC Returns
I am absolutely NOT a fan of Westerns. They're usually ENTIRELY too Macho for me. I haven't liked a GTA since 3.

...
...but then again, two months ago, I didn't like 360.
...I didn't like Shooters, First (CoD) or 3rd Person (GoW).
...I never played through an entire BioWare Game (ME).
...and I would normally turn my nose up at Sandbox Games (CrackDown).
...
...
...I have heard such POSITIVE things about Red Dead, I couldn't resist! It's in my Collection, waiting to be played! I was thinking GoW2 next, but now you all have me leaning towards Red Dead...
...I know you've been waiting for me to start Gears 2, Travo, but you speak so highly of RDR, you may have swayed me away from it again!
It's perfectly alright. RDR is really my personal GOTY for 2010. I need to get the zombie game.

Yeah, you should probably play it so you know what everyone is talking about GOTY-wise (since you have it). I know I'd play any GOTY contender if it were sitting on my shelf.
Oh crap. I'm a liar, I have Bayonetta, DQ9 and Peacewalker.
I didn't want to break my rule in the GOTY thread, so I've started this post.
I've beaten all but 4 of the 9 GTA3+ games, and after finishing GTA4 I'm sick of it. SICK. OF. IT. I will go back to the GTA3 ones I have not finished, but GTA4 did me in. It was fun for the first 40+ hours, but after that it was a chore to finish.
So, I was reluctant to pick up Red Dead Redemption, especially so since I did not finish Red Dead Revolver.
Is it really a re-birth of the GTA formula or is it just the same old bullshit where you have to do 5-10 missions for a bunch of mini-bosses before you can advance the story?
