I played AC on the Cube. . . for about 3 days.  I tried to get into it, but doing errands and decorating my home just never really seemed fun to me.  The only thing I really liked about it was getting to play the classic NES games.  If the new one had that feature again I'd probably play it, but I really can't get myself interested in it.

Yikes. 3 days. Did you even get all your tools by then?

You only would have seen about less than 1% of the items. Seen no events or holidays. No villagers come and go either. Ouch.

Yeah, 3 days is nothing; AC starts out very slow. It takes at least a week or two to really get into an AC game. My friend bought Wild World when it came out, and he didn't like it at first. But after a week, he became completely addicted to it.

You know what though?  I couldn't force myself to play it anymore.  It just was not fun.  I'm not really into games that require an investment of sheer boredom.  If it gets better, great.  But I'm not going to endure something I don't like when there are a lot of other games I can pick up and start to enjoy within 15 minutes.

That's a good point. I enjoyed the game from the start, but I grew to love the game after a week or two. If you weren't enjoying any part of those first 3 days, then the game probably isn't for you.

I'd rather not have a game that screws you over if you don't play it for a week.

Same here.

I'm willing to give it another go, though.

It doesn't really screw you over unless you're trying to keep the town in perfect shape to get the Golden Whatsit. You'd have to be a real masochist to try to get that thing.

You can really play it as much or as little as you want. Alas, many of us feel compelled to play it as much as possible every single day for the rest of our lives. My advice: don't let it do that to you.

Yeah, lordandrew is correct. The only thing the game does to you if you don't play for a week or even six months is fill your town with weeds, and weeds are easily removed, especially if you find Wisp the Ghost who'll remove all of them for you.

AC: City Folk, on the other hand, will screw you over if you play it too much, though. It does this by turning your nice green grass into ugly dirt. Sad

I can see that, for instance you never know what fish you are going to catch till it comes out of the water. You never know what item someone has sent you till you open the letter. You never know what is in those floating presents in the sky till you shoot it down.

Have you seen or shot down the UFO yet? In the DS game when I shot that bastard down it was like WHOA day. I even took a cellphone pic of it. I've seen him fly across really fast once so far over nearly 3 months and missed him.

This is so true. And it's what I was talking about before. UFO? I hadn't the slighest clue there was a fucking UFO in the game, lol. Just when you think  you have seen all the shit the game can throw at you, it surprises you with another little thing. Unless you are Raven, of course, in that case you have seen everything AC can offer to you and the dev team in underwear. Nyaa

It took me a good minute to figure out who were you talking about, lol. I have only seen KK perform once. Slider, I think, but yeah, the fact that he only shows up on saturday nights makes them special in a way. Now I wanna see him again. There are so many little things like this that make you feel the game like it is yours, you know? Different moments, memories and experiences for everyone.

That's why I love the whole picture taking feature with SD Cards. On DS I couldn't believe it, but shooting down the UFO was so memorable and would never happen again that I actually took a photo of a game? When do you ever do that unless its built into the game? Now with all the photos I have its like a picture book of my life in Animal Crossing on the Wii photo channel. Here is my first house, my first tuna, this funny character, etc.

Yeah that rings true from that old UK Resistance review:

We were playing Animal Crossing when other people started playing it. We were playing it when those people then stopped playing it a few weeks later after not seeing what the fuss was about.

We were still playing it when those people started playing it again to see if they could work out why we were still playing it after a year.

We played it this morning and will play it again this evening. For reasons to do with turnips you probably won't understand. We have played it every day since last December - apart from, maybe, three or four days. That's not a stupid internet exaggeration either - you don't get an insect collection of this magnitude by only playing for a couple of minutes every now and again.

Nope. I don't own a Wii yet. And if I did, I'd stay away from Animal Crossing. I've learned my lesson. Grinning

Did you go to Animal Crossing rehab? I once described Wild World as Animal Crack. LOL

I had no real pre-release information about Animal Crossing on the GC before I bought it.  Maybe a couple of screen shots reminded me in some way of the Harvest Moon series which my wife enjoyed (which is not a diss, she is an avid gamer in her own right).

So I played it to death on the GC, bought the e-reader and e-cards to go with it, gameboy advance -> GC link cable, the whole thing.  We both played it to absolutely death.

Wild World was the same game for me, except portable, which meant I could play it in more places.  So I racked up at least 200 hours on that.

The game pushes the same buttons as the original Sims game, except more charming.  I'm a game collector in the real world, so I dug the collecting aspect of it.  I also enjoy the leveling aspects, starting out doing anything for coin, but ultimately having a 4 storey house etc...

I have not purchased the Wii version yet, in part because my consoles are not hooked up right now (but since that has not stopped me from buying other games it has to be one of two other reasons:

1. I'm annoyed by the cynicism of Nintendo's action of including a peripheral with every one of their games on the Wii.

2. After so many hours of playing the first two games I've had my fill and if I want more I'll go back to Wild World.

So... what is left for me in terms of wanting the game?  I want to upload all my Wild World stuff to the Wii to see what it looks like.  Also, I've always said that if they wanted to improve AC all they would have to do is make it MMO, so to be true to myself I should act on it and buy the game.

What did those card readers things actually do?

City Folk has a hell of a lot of items and stuff not in wild world. I wouldn't get it just to transfer stuff over. Starting from scratch is part of the fun.

i didn't play the gamecube game though i did own it (i meant to but i just never got round to, like many of my games).

i bought wild world soon after it was released and played it daily for over a year (sometimes for even longer than a whole hour).  i totally loved it and it absorbed me completely during that time making me, literally, not want to play any other games because i'd be giving up AC time.

wild world made me laugh and say aww more times than perhaps any other game i ever played and it was also the "first base" with gg over on gamespot (but he was a wuss and couldn't get his ds online so he never visited deadver).

i have bought "let's go to the city" but it's still shrink wrapped, for a number of reasons.  in a very similar situation to aspro, my wii is hardly ever hooked up so i've been practically gaming solely on DS and psp for the last 15 months (with very brief spells of console fun).  but also similarly to aspro i feel a little burned out from having played wild world to death and i'm not quite sure if i want anymore of the exact same thing.  other reasons are ... i fear animal tracks will piss me off, like it did with raven. my OCD rears it's head in video games a lot and i'm not sure i could handle yellow patches very well.

having said that, there are also very compelling reasons for playing it, like linking up with gg and steel and the other people on here who play it, and also creating another town, and smiling, and laughing, and teaching my residents to say nasty things ... and going awww all over again, so i think i cannot help but to start playing it on wii at some point but i don't know when that will be exactly.

ps i remember one time about a month after i'd visited a buddy of mine's AC town, his 'penis' constellation formed in the night sky over my town... and stayed there a while.  i laughed so much i started coughing.

I still haven't got my DS online Nyaa

First base? So what was that time when you touched my man boobs? Did that mean NOTHING to you?

I didn't play the GC version either and I was worried about the re-tread in City Folk but there is definetely enough to make it new IMO. Use our search box to read the Destructiod review for instance. You can also easily mitigate animal tracks, once you know about it. Just lay down paths.

I'm going to do a guide now, as I feel animal tracks is way overstated at this point. I need to snap some pics of my town to show you growth.

My sister brought this game over so I finally tried it. What the fuck is this shit? I start up a game and I have a job, I have to run errands, hell loading boxes in Shenmue was better than this. Oh look I get to run around a small boring town, yippe. Cow lady "write me a letter", write your own letter you bitch, what you think I am into bestiality. Then I tried to go to GG town to hopefully take a dump in it, but I need to do the whole friend code thing, ahhhh.

So there are my first impressions. I'm sure I'll come around at some point. Nyaa

LOL yeah, the first hours into the game most people yell exactly that. If you give it enough time, it'll grow on you, provided it is the game for you. A game that you could play on an on-off basis for the better part of a year or two. Very rewarding, but only in the long run, and pretty much demanding of your time and attention before letting you reap the rewards.
