When I first saw this thread I thought it said, "How do you get past being the best" and figured Iga had posted it.
To the topic, I do what I enjoy with little regard to where I am in the spectrum of skill.

Just remember kids I am not the type to brag about my accomplishments to make myself feel better, no I do it to make you guys feel worse. A big difference.
And to answer Yoda's question, you learn from people that are better than you. I learned some tricks nice tricks from Fedor, I learned some Judo fundamentals from a brown belt, leglocks from Minowa and so on.

Aiming for excellency is a commendable effort, and something that we all should observe in anything we do, but there's no use in giving in to frustration for not getting perfect results in each and every activity of our lives.

Kidding aside, you're right. I know it's cliche but be the best you can be and we should be satisfied with that.

the way i deal with this is to dabble at everything i enjoy, and to try my hand at it almost without expecting any sort of recognition for it, let alone being the best at it. kind of what Leo said in the assassin's creed II thread about being a renaissance man, except not being brilliant at everything, just being good enough

Does this ever strike anyone else? Is the thought that countless others are better at countless things than you really a comforting one -- mediocrity a sanctuary?
The way I socialize, so-to-speak, is to be useful and informative. I've always managed to be the one who's expected to know everything, whether or not deservedly. Anything outside of that is far from home.
