In writing, the concept of a tragic hero is the figure in a tragedy who is brought down by a fatal character flaw leading to a key error.  For a trait of my own, it would be a resistance to inferiority.  It drove me away from chess, it drives me away from music, and it undermines any sense of accomplishment.

Does this ever strike anyone else?  Is the thought that countless others are better at countless things than you really a comforting one -- mediocrity a sanctuary?

The way I socialize, so-to-speak, is to be useful and informative.  I've always managed to be the one who's expected to know everything, whether or not deservedly.  Anything outside of that is far from home.

Hey, no wonder you hate rap given that some of it is based around the rapper in question being better than you. Nyaa (On the surface it appears to be anyway.)

When I first saw this thread I thought it said, "How do you get past being the best" and figured Iga had posted it.

To the topic, I do what I enjoy with little regard to where I am in the spectrum of skill.

LOL

Just remember kids I am not the type to brag about my accomplishments to make myself feel better, no I do it to make you guys feel worse. A big difference.

And to answer Yoda's question, you learn from people that are better than you. I learned some tricks nice tricks from Fedor, I learned some Judo fundamentals from a brown belt, leglocks from Minowa and so on.

Come on, we've all dreamed about dying on the toilet.

Even if Elvis was best at it.

I have a huge penis.  Anytime I get frustrated about not being good at other things I just look down my pants and all my troubles and pains melt away.

No matter what you do, someone somewhere is better at it than you. You just need to realize this applies to basically everyone in the world. So don't worry, so if you are not the best who cares, love what you do. All you need is love, da-dadadada.

This much I know.

Aiming for excellency is a commendable effort, and something that we all should observe in anything we do, but there's no use in giving in to frustration for not getting perfect results in each and every activity of our lives.

Unless you're Michael Jordan. Nyaa

Kidding aside, you're right. I know it's cliche but be the best you can be and we should be satisfied with that.

i have always been a jack of all trades at school and even now.  without any obvious "talent" or inclination at anything (except for maybe realising real talent when i see it much quicker than most people do).  it was a problem when it came to making big decisions like what to study or what to do for a living because i have no obvious "calling" (at least that i know of as of yet).

the way i deal with this is to dabble at everything i enjoy, and to try my hand at it almost without expecting any sort of recognition for it, let alone being the best at it.  kind of what Leo said in the assassin's creed II thread about being a renaissance man, except not being brilliant at everything, just being good enough
