Ghostbusters The Video Game.

Okay, that's my personal favorite so I guess it shouldn't really count but that's my vote!

There's still five-and-a-half days left of 2009, so there's still a small chance that I'll play something even more amazing than I already have. I'll wait until the 31st to decide.

So what's your choice now? NSMBWii?

I downloaded NyxQuest this afternoon. So far, I've played about an hour of it, but I'm more impressed by it than NSMB Wii. It's too early to say if it'll be my GOTY or not, but it's definitely in the running.

How come I never heard about Nyx Quest until now?

It does look good! WiiWare has some cool 2D platformers which is great! I have to download it soon!

There's a free demo on WiiWare. That's how they hooked me.

Thanx! I'll check it out! The videos already convinced me though. I love these kinds of games.

I want to play Trine so badly. Sad

I'll vote after I play New Super Mario Bros. Wii -- the year's not over yet.

NyxQuest is a damned good game.  Best control scheme I think we've seen on the Wii so far.  Simple, clever and intuitive.  I still don't know why we never saw it before.  The only flaw in the game was the limited environments.  I'd love to see what these devs could do without size restrictions.

Controls? You mean using the analog to move and the pointer to interact with the environment, right? I thought LostWinds used a similar control scheme, as did Galaxy in a more limited manner. What makes Icarian (go Europe) so different, compared to the before mentioned games?

In Lost Winds you're using the pointer to create wind bursts or blow something around (a type of control also featuring in NyxQuest), and most of the time you're actually just using it on your own character. It comes across more like you're influencing rather than controlling. But In Nyx there are times where you are in total control of other objects.  Additionally you're not making specific movements to perform an action. It's just a point, click, and drag.  Because of that it gives you more opportunity for simultaneous movement of the character and the environment.

Ah, now I get it. Yeah the Wii needs more "telekinetic" gameplay. Either in 3D like Elebits or 2D like NyxQuest. Telekinesis and sword play are the first thing you think about when you see the Wiimote. Too bad developers are not seeing it. A missed opportunity if I ever saw one

By the way, all you Little King's fans stay away from that topic! It was a great game and I enjoyed it, but...

You should put a warning for Zelda fans too, seeing that you ranked the inferior Okami and not a single Zelda game. But you are forgiven by ranking Zero Mission and Prime. But Vader will definitely not agree.

Fuck Vader!

I need MOAR. Moar of Schmeg and telekinetic gameplay that is.

P.S. Leo can you explain how Layle's telekinetic powers work control wise? I heard it's much more limited that Elebits.

You lock on to an object, person or enemy and arrows appear around him/her/it to show you in which direction you can (typically) throw whatever it is you're latched on to. You don't physically drag things around like you did in Elebits.

You flip Bombs to the left or the right spinning them, for example. You flick towards you to lift things above your head to use (as in Goblin archers firing their arrows) or throw using your reticule to aim.

Think push or pull, not drag and you get the idea.

And is this NTSC or PAL GOTY?  Because some games released in 2008 in one region, and 2009 in the other.

If it was released in your region in calender 2009, it works (so both NTSC or PAL).

NSMB Wii has been dethroned as my GOTY choice for 2009.

I just finished NyxQuest, and it is absolutely awesome! The controls, graphics, music, level design and fantastic puzzles really put this game on top. It's a very addictive game that has a near-perfect difficulty; it's challenging but never frustrating. I beat it in 4 hours and 18 minutes, which isn't bad at all, but I wish it were 2-3 times longer! Granted, I still need to find the last 10 hidden relics (there are 20 in the game), so I could easily put in a couple more hours. Also, according to Gamefaqs, you unlock a secret level once you've found all 20 relics, so there's plenty more fun to be had. I know I'll replay NyxQuest several more times from beginning to end; it's that fun!

It's still too early to say for sure that NyxQuest will be my GOTY since I still have A Boy and His Blob to play, but NyxQuest currently has my vote! Happy

It'll be NyxQuest.  No doubt about that.  Blob is fun and probably wins the 2009 Cuteness in Gaming award, but it's complete lack of a narrative really hurts it after you've played for a few hours.
