The reason TP got so few votes is because it's shit* compared to TWW.

RE4 is the correct #1.  The only top 10 list Wind Waker belongs on would be most overrated.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile

Decent looking Top 25 for 2015. But isn't there a reason why Rolling Stone has 2 or 3 different versions of the Top 500 Songs of All Time? This stuff never stays fluid, and we all get to talk about it and hash it out for ourselves.

As for the list itself, I only owned a GC during that era so I couldn't say as much as I'd like. My PS2 and Xbox came at the very end, and I did some dabbling with friends' systems. Some quick musings:

  • I think it's completely nuts that 2 MGS games and 0 GTA games made the top 10.
  • Only DMC3? I know 2 sucked, but wasn't DMC1 revered as well?
  • Twilight Princess was great but felt too muh like Ocarina of Time Redux, and I say that as a man who owns multiple Zelda T-shirts, a green and gold track jacket, the Hyrule Historia, the GameCube CE disc and a Link Pez dispenser. The Wind Waker is a little too short but Twilight Princess is too long and arrived too late in the console cycle and my own life for the impact I wanted it to have to really be felt.
  • I think I agree with 5 of the top 10, and even then the placement isn't perfect. My #1 would probably be one of Metroid Prime or RE4, but even then I really couldn't say without more thinking.

GAF just concluded a month long vote for the best game of the sixth generation, the PS2 era basically. Nearly 500 voters, this is probably the most comprehensive vote by core gamers on the net. The thread is here

http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1001534&page=1

The game of the generation is:image

As if there was any doubt. Also check out that first comment, that guy knows his stuff!

Here is the top 10:

  1. RE4
  2. Metroid Prime
  3. MGS3
  4. Shadow of the Colosuss
  5. super smash bros melee
  6. Half life 2
  7. MGS2
  8. Legend of Zelda Wind Waker
  9. Halo
  10. Final Fantasy X

See the whole list at the link, such a great list. Three of my top four are in the top 3 so I am proven to have amazing taste in games once again.  I have played all but 5 games on the gaf top 25 list, what a fantastic gen.

the things that surprised me are the GTA games not being in the top 10. Jak and Daxter being the best platformer. Oh and persona 4 beating KOTOR?! And WW beating TP pisses me off.

So feel free to make your own top 10s, see how they compare. We get enough votes and I can do a mini rof  games of the generation list.

Except for the number one, that is a terrible list. Halo would be higher for sure. The rest would not make my top ten.

I agree with T_Prime on TP.  It might technically have been a great Zelda, but it came too late (or too early) in the gen and was too samey.  WW might have its faults, but it was a far more memorable game, which also made a much larger splash in the industry, even if only for it's graphical style.

Here's my list of gaming era 2000/2006. Its better:

  1. Resident Evil 4
  2. Metroid Prime
  3. Halo: Combat Evolved
  4. Grand Theft Auto 3
  5. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance
  6. Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic
  7. Half Life 2
  8. The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind
  9. Halo 2
  10. Resident Evil Remake
  11. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
  12. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
  13. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
  14. Ratchet & Clank
  15. Super Mario Sunshine
  16. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
  17. Resident Evil: Code Veronica
  18. God Of War
  19. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
  20. Diablo 2
  21. Final Fantasy 10
  22. Phantasy Star Online
  23. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
  24. Silent Hill 2
  25. Pikmin 2
  26. Prince Of Persia: Sands of Time
  27. Persona 3
  28. Deus Ex
  29. Warcraft 3
  30. Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay

Ok there's a top 30....wow this is hard that generation is packed and its tough getting it down to a list smaller than 50. And trying to order them is insane. I still think my list is better than Gafs. There's games I totally love that aren't on this list...and a few I'm sure should be there but I never played them, like Baldur's Gate 2.

Needs more Burnout2, the pinnacle of arcade racers (this side of F-zero GX at least).

Great games, but not even close to the Top 30 IMO. I'd probably pick another 25 games before any of those.

Why do you pick Pikmin2 over the original?

The original felt rushed, and Pikmin 2 was Pikmin 1 times 10. Just a much better game.

I felt like the first stuck closer to clear artistic vision, while the 2nd was a larger game, but adhered to standard video game conventions more, taking away from the original's charm in doing so.  I also misliked how it so clearly spelled out that you were on earth.  Both are great games though.

Yep definitely great games....as is Pikmin 3. Can't believe it took them so long to make a sequel though.
